Long ago, I had 6 large rescue mutts, and was also a foster parent for human children. All of the dogs pitched in to help the children feel safe and comfortable. My alpha, a (maybe, sorta) lab/shepherd cross, was able to sense distress in the children's sleep, and would jump in to cuddle them. Never - not once, did any of my kids wake up with night terrors, no matter what they'd been through. I truly believe that every child should have at least one dog to help look after them, and to teach them how to look after others who are different than they are

@@JoAnnMeuniercalm down JoAnn there’s medicine should that happen. Better than being trapped in an over sanitised playroom not allowing a developing immune system to learn and get stronger. Do your research. Edit- from John Hopkins…. We’ve also noticed that people who live on farms have fewer of these diseases because they’re exposed to-for lack of a better term-the fecal material of animals. And what we have found is that it’s due to these commensal bacteria. That is one of the components that help us keep a healthy immune system. Most of us will probably not adopt farm life. But we can have a pet, we can have a dog.

Their bond is incredible, and yes, her health is amazing due to her strong immune system being raised in her home with Nala. They both influence each other’s behaviors as Nala thinks she’s human and my g-daughter thinks she’s a dog half of the time.
