Yeah the pole is to let her know that she’s about 2 metres from the wall. That way she knows how many strokes she has left before she needs to turn. As an ex-swimmer myself you can barely hear anything under water and mostly rely on sight to estimate when you need to turn. When you first learn to do turns they tell you to count your strokes from the flags to the wall or get you to do turns from the T bar out. That way when you see the flags or T bar in competitions you know how far you are from the wall. Also in competitions coaches are not allowed to yell any instructions to you as your swimming as it’s considered cheating. But the pole is considered mandatory for blind/disabled swimmers and usually the organisation running the competition will have someone hold the pole out for them. They may even get a small head start.

Same here. I lost my little baby on June 2nd, a little over a year ago. Losing him hurt so badly but I wouldn’t take any of it back. The amount of love and happiness he gave me during my hardest times is too much, I wouldn’t ever want to undo it to get rid of my pain. My depression and anxiety did come back full force, but I decided to face them on my own because my cat wouldn’t want me to feel terrible, he would want me to be happy. So I’m trying to do that. I’m staying strong so that I won’t undo all the progress I made thanks to him. This means that in a way, even now that he’s gone, he’s still here with me and helping me. Animals are wonderful and can help you heal so much. And all they need from you is to love them back and take good care of them. I’m so happy we’re able to experience that kind of special bond with them. Your cat too would want you to be happy. And you have their brothers and sisters there to help you as well. I hope you’re doing well. Time will help with the pain. Your cat will always be with you, in a way. :)

Im still stuck on the fact that he is so clearly aware of what his job actually is, not just following commands that he had trained into him, thats just incredible

That’s honestly how I feel with my service dog. I’m a swimmer and we need to get him used to the pool because he thinks I’m going to drown but other than that he’s my best friend who keeps me safe and sane

If you didn’t know you wouldn’t think she was fully blind. She’s so confident and bubbly I absolutely love it. That’s one dog doggo too.

I suffer from mild face blindness so unless I see a certain person in a certain context or location, I might not remember them. Far from being a negative, it allows me to always create a good impression. I would never remember someone for having a specific disability so I won't look to pity that person but deal with them as a human.
