It always amazes me to see cats with this kind of daring and love for adventure, but this one clearly also has a deep love for its owner. It's heartwarming.

@@pamm5287 - No, you can definitely not tell that. Nothing in the video suggest that it likes it. We never see it get into the water. Every time, it's the owners that carry it into the water, and it immediately swims back to land, like any cat would.

@@peterwhitey4992 Right! The only time we see her jump in herself is to save herself from that unstable floatation device that's floating away from the shore. When she's swimming she's got her ears back and she goes in a straight line for a place she can get out of the water. She dares to swim, but as a means of survival, not relaxation (there isn't much choice either when your owners put you in open water, it's literally sink or swim). The only time she doesn't really mind the water is in the shallows where she can still stand on the rocks and have a sense of control. Open water makes her vulnerable, limits her ability to flee, no cat likes that.

Bao Zi has the best of both worlds now. The luxury of having people who love and care for her and still getting to be as independent as an outdoor cat without worrying about finding food and being attacked by other animals or run over by a car. Long live Bao Zi!

I had a cat that loved swimming too. Streams, lakes, even the bathtub, she would jump right in. She was fearless. Sadly she passed away at 21 years old.

That's nice. Nothing in this video suggests that this cat enjoys being in the water though. We never see it go into the water. They carry it into the water and it of course swims back to land. All we see is that it tolerates them doing that, but it takes itself out of the situation right away. That's quite different from your cat, who sounds like it got in by itself. 21 years is pretty good. You must have given it a good life.

I'm so confused. Nothing in this video suggests that this cat likes swimming. See how it walks the closest it can near the wall, the furthest away it can be from the water? Immediately swimming back to land when being put in (by someone else)? Jumping off that board drifting away from the shore? This is a heartwarming story but that cat sure didn't get in there by itself out of enjoyment.

It is fascinating to watch these cats that actually ENJOY being in water. Every cat I've ever had (or even known) avoid it completely, aside from drinking of course. No bath. No shower. Even the light spray that can occur while washing dishes, sends them fleeing like a hail of bullets!

Our tom cat (back in the day, that was normal 🤷🏻‍♀️) used to lie in the sun next to our goldfish pond. Even though he was a mouser, he'd dangle a paw in the water and the fish would come to him and suck the bubbles off his fur. We never lost a single fish to predators (mostly other cats) when he was alive. We lost over a hundred in a few years when he went 😞

The same for all animals really. The more enrichment the more they develop. Fish aren't happy in bowls either. It's not natural to be confined and understimulated, but people are so often (mentally and physically) they don't think twice about it. Animals can't read to compensate. So many pets display behavior stemming from deficit of habitat, stimulous and freedom of daily instinctual behaviors.

I was very struck by the phenomenon of people finding covid lockdown so restrictive and lonely that they got new pets… and then not only left these animals raised 24/7 in company all alone at home - even putting some dogs in crates etc. As you say, they can’t read, or decide to listen to music. Some can’t even decide to get a drink or have a pee. Dogs in particular are much more intensely social than human beings. No wonder they chew the furniture, and yet instead of seeing this as stress behaviour, Americans in particular shut their dogs up even worse in tiny cages. I don’t know any other country where this is seen as normal for pets. The older I get, the more cruel I think it is to leave them alone all day, but to put animals in a crate smaller than they can even stretch out or stretch up is just punishment. There is no other word for it. It’s like the Vietcong did to prisoners. How can people do this to “a member of the family” they say they love?

@@gnarbeljo8980 Yes. Until I got the internet, I thought dog cages were only for (a) vehicle transport and (b) when the vet tells you your pet needs strict confinement e.g. for orthopaedic recovery. I wish more pet owners were like these folks. They observed their pet, they realised she needed to live a different way in order to thrive, and they gave her that in spades.

My cat lived locked in a closet most her young life because her owner didn't want her to scratch thing's. Her next owner had took her and after she found out she was pregnant, put the cat outside. I drove 5 hours 1 way, 5 hours back not included time it took us to catch. Very scared kitty, she has a disorder that when she's stressed she gets a lung infection. It makes my heart happy to see her be brave and try new things. She even comes out and sits about the yard once in a while. She's happy now and safe with my other 4 rescue critters! ❤️ 😊

Beautiful Norwegian forest kitty! And what a wonderful life you provide for her! This is the best, singular breed of cat, in my opinion and experience. So adaptable and nature-loving. I had a Norwegian forest cat, Lucy, who was the bravest, toughest cat I've ever known. She was a total bad-ass, too. I travelled all over America w her and her "brother" (Orca, the black and white domestic shorthair). Just me and the cats in a VW bus and I always felt totally safe w them. I trusted their instincts and heightened cat sense and felt like they protected me. Lucy did not mind the water at all but it was Orca who LOVED the water (hence his name and also bc of his coloring) I miss my girl and boy so much. I considered Lucy to have "grandmother medicine" bc she was so wise and natural. I have come close to adopting other cats but...it never worked out. I'm honestly praying that Lucy and Orca reincarnate into my life again as cats so I can finish learning from their example... 😻😻😻

This is actually pretty inspiring to me. I have a cat that I adopted at 2 years old, he’s now 10. He was the same as this cat in a way, very timid and afraid of everyone and everything. It took a good year for him to trust me completely, now we are extremely close. He’s gotten braver and braver each year. He’s just recently been acting like he wants to venture outside so I want to get a harness and leash to see if he would go for walks. It would be so incredible if he would take to it like this cat. I’m so excited to see what happens.

I have 2 cats, one black rez cat (primarily raised outdoors as a kitten), and a shelter siamese kitten (he was from a wealthy home, always indoors). Their personalities are like batteries, shes very outgoing wanting to go for a drive or escape outside. Siamese, he is terrified stepping outdoors. Our city river has nearly dried up, took them both (harness and leash) to catch fish in shallow ponds. They loved it, clawing and eating fresh fish on their own, cats needs to be outdoors.

Cats can be very surprising. Back in the late 1980s I knew a guy who lived on his sailboat in St Croix who had a cat that would swim ashore and back on her own. He had a swim platform with a line (rope) tied off that the cat would climb up to get back into the boat. I've never seen anything like that...
