@@atiliobison although there can definitely be underlying factors such as tumor, pain or ptsd from past experiences. Most canines are basing everything off of a combination of nature and nurture. Much like a child if left ferrell or agnostic they will develop negative behaviors based off of negative experiences and fear or even selfishness due to percieved necessity and preservation. The percentage of " nasty" dogs would be much less if they weren't looked at like a possession and more as a gift with serious responsibility.

We adopted a dog at 10 Years old after we lost our chi of 16 years old. The previous owner got a new puppy. They didn't get along apparently so they tossed Louie aside. The dog not even being able to take all four of her paws out of the kennel is one of the saddest things I've seen. It's such a sign of anxiety about exploring its environment outside of the cage, and wanting to keep at least one foot in a spot where it knows its safe. Can't imagine what she went through before this.
@bunyan4.20
@bunyan4.20 Жыл бұрын
My one dog does this it is his safe spot he lays in there when he wants to be left alone and he does not want the other dogs to bother him but I think it also has to do with him being abused as a puppy before we got him from my dad's friends who stole him out the neighbor's yard who was mean to him and beat him and threw him out in the snow it took him about a month before he really felt safe to let me or my dad pet him now he is such a lovable dog Milo is but he is still not a people dog and does not like black people because that is who beat him as a puppy so he freaks out he thinks it is the people who beat him

This is a good example of why you're not always going to have that instant connection that many people are looking for when they want to adopt. Some dogs are not going to be able to show you their personalities until they feel comfortable with you.

When I was 5, my parents let me pick out a dog. All the other puppies at the shelter were jumping on me and scaring me, but this one timid 1 year old dog from a neglectful home just shyly walked over and sat on my lap. He was my pick, and we named him Tucker. He was so neglected that my mom had to hand feed him and teach him how to walk up and down stairs. We had to teach him how to play. My parents later admitted they first thought he was too timid and wasn't sure about my choice, but he ended up being the best dog in the world once he came out of his shell. Intelligent, playful, well-behaved, extremely empathetic, good-natured to all animals. Whatever cats we adopted over the years fell in love with him. When fights would break out between the cats, or when our friend's dog would chase the cat, he would always break it up and stand his ground. He loved to play Frisbee and had a lot of personality, but he was also calm and very well behaved. Only ever chewed a shoe once, and if he was ever scolded for something, he'd never do it again. He passed a couple years ago at 16 years old. I miss him every day.

This is why responsible shelters/rescues will do behavior screening of all pets that come to them and require ALL family members (human and animal although cats can be exempted) meet and interact with the potential adoptee before adoption. If there has been abuse or some kind of personality issue they will do pre-adoption training to make sure all in the family understand what the new family member needs in order to become comfortable. Nobody should adopt without already having some idea of potential challenges ahead.

I love it when people will go that extra mile to help a animal that’s been mistreated and then to get them a support friend. I grew up with cats and dogs all my life, I do gravitate to cats simply because I don’t have the energy any more for a dog, as much as I would love to have both, dogs are such hight maintenance for someone who is not able-bodied enough for them I use to look after a friends dog for a long time until it got to the point I was just worn out after just 5 minutes of play with her. The neighbours dog comes around every other day to visit me to make sure I’m okay and also to get his hugs and grooming in 😹😹 we now have a routing of doing one section of him at a time and as soon as I start feeling tired he hops up head buts me and then runs home😹😹😹 Having a sometimes dog is just enough for me😹😹😹for some reason the cats and dogs seem to like visiting my place all the time even though I have 5 cats who live in and around in the house or under the house.

This is so true. One of our rescues was terrified for the first month or so. Her backstory is that she was left in a crate 24/7 then was sent to a rescue at 3 years old. She is now the most confident, loving dog. Wags her tail constantly. There is so much joy and she gives just as much if not much more than we give her. It is one of the best feelings in the world to rehab an animal and give them a loving environment where they can thrive. Bravo to this couple!
