The smaller kitten (named Lucky Carl) was a challenge at first, but became a happy house kitten in record time. The bigger brother (named Stars) made slower progress. He would only calm down and sleep if he was in a crate outside in the yard. Eventually we just accepted he would be an in/out cat. He proudly brought me mice and birds every once in a while. He always showed up for his meals and he did spend time inside, bonding with Lucky. He just would not sleep in the house! Today, Lucky Carl is a very neat and tidy little man who keeps his black fur very clean and shiny. He also does his own nails. Very distinguished boy. Lol, who will also turn gangsta in 1.2 seconds if he smells a rotisserie chicken. He's 6 now, and very happy. Very loved. Stars ("Starzie" to me) went over the rainbow bridge in 2017. He was struck by a car. I don't regret allowing him to spend time outside. Of course I wish it were a different story, but Stars was an outside cat. Like in his soul. I miss him still. He was only here a little while, but he showed me how you let someone you love be who they are. Even if you don't really like their choices. He would never have been a happy housecat. He left too soon, but from the minute I found him, he lived 100% of the rest of his life exactly how he had to live it to feel happy. Free. Self sufficient. And always, always he knew he was loved.

My latest feral kitten was a 2 mo female who is now a happy, healthy 10 mo. I named her Hope because I rescued her from a hopeless situation. As for the fur babies in our lives, I see it this way. They arrive just when they're supposed to. They bring with them a key which opens the door to a compartment in your heart. They unlock the door, enter in, close the door, and lock it from the inside where they will dwell forever. 💖 I'm 65 and have 22 compartments in my heart. Still with me are Penny 14, Cody 12, and now Hope. I wouldn't have my life any other way.

When you bring the snacks don't take them to her.. Put them by the cat and walk away.. First thing to do to get along with cats is to stop thinking they are hostile. In my experience this applies to most animals, how you treat them is how they will treat you, animals are sensitive to human emotions, so if the animals thinks you are cautious of him/her, then the animals will be to you too making you both on edge for no reason. I agree to the idea of giving treats, making a new friend is way easier when you give them free food.

This one seems like it was a kitten though when this started, unless it's just a really small cat. I've worked around ferals too, and usually you can't socialize them once they're past the kitten stage. but depending on that specific cat's background, maybe they were once owned before so there is some hope for them. If they've spent their whole life on the streets though, they most likely won't ever warm up to humans. I fed a colony for 5 years or so, and still some of them even though they'd meow loudly when I came up w/the food, they'd run across the street when I got close to them or their food dishes. But a couple did come up and nuzzle against me too, but I think those ones were owned before.

Found a little kitten left alone in the streets some years ago, I gave her some water and she started following me all the way home. Even though I always thought I was a dog person and never had much contact to cats, the little decided for me to become a cat person. So first thing I did is was cleaning her paws (it was a rainy winter day and she was covered in mud) very gently with warm water, at first she was nervous but once the warm water came, she was starting purring like there is no tomorrow. After she was clean I dryed her in a very fluffy towel and sat down in my living room with her where she immediatly fell asleep. Little cat turned out to be very petit and didn´t grow after being approximately 3 month old... now she is a healthy 5 year old cat and foster mom to a double in size tomcat. To this day the shower and sink are her favourite places and she demands to get her paws washed every few days, only cat I ever saw to like water. Must´ve had a big impact on her the first time :D

My rescue was like that too. Got her from the humane society, she was there on their “second chance” program, and technically she was on her third chance. She was adopted out but returned 18 days later because she “wasnt acclimating fast enough”. That was all the more reason why I took her. It took her almost a month to warm up to me and another month to come up on the bed and a about a year and a half to come out of the bedroom and explore the house. She follows me everywhere now and comes to me when I call her. She has to snuggle up by my head at bed time, and I can never go to the bathroom alone, everywhere I go she is right behind. So I grabbed her up, brought her in the house and decided I was going to get the cat good and dry. So I take her to the bathroom and pull out my hairdryer. I had no idea the hairdryer would freak the cat out. I'm holding the cat, turn on the hairdryer and she FREAKED OUT at the sound of the dryer. She clawed me so badly. Deep claws. My wife of 32+ years went to be with the Lord 8 years ago. I didn't take it very well, even though I was truly happy for her that her days of suffering on Earth were over. Within the last several months a family gave me their beloved female, beautiful long haired cat. She has awakened a buried sense of love from within myself. I brush her, and she loves the brush (she's 8 years old and is one of the most beautiful and gentle cats I've seen). When I used the brush on her facial area and neck, she gets real close to my face often times purring. I'm in heaven when that happens. Thanks for this video.

I had a pregnant cat that I fostered once. Our other cats hated her because of how violent and aggressive she was when we first took her in. She wouldn’t let anyone near her, but I eventually managed to get her to warm up to me by being patient with her and before I knew it she was cuddling up to me and being a little darling. She even deemed my bed her safe space when she finally gave birth and kept being me her kittens. My cat was very jealous and not happy with me for that. Once her kittens were old enough we took her and kittens to a shelter so they could be adopted out and they were. She went from super violent to such a sweet cat, I hope her new home is treating her well.

My grandmother had a love for cats. And at her house we had a doggy door. One day a orange male cat just walked into our kitchen through that door. Everyone knew him as Sam in the neighborhood. He was so taken with us that he decided to stay. And i can say he is the most loving boy ever. He cuddles constantly, and if your his favorite human he will follow you everywhere and demand all the head pats & cuddle times. Unfortunately, my grandmother died, and he was heartbroken. We kinda helped each other, and he decided to then adopt me as his human. Most of my family hates cats but they all love him, especially after witnessing how attached he was to me. The cat chooses the owner. Not the other way around :)

@@TheJECNova There's a big difference with adults, if they're feral(not stray). I would imagine it would be basically impossible with any adult feral cat within anywhere near the same time span. I have a feral cat here that had kittens(albeit younger kittens than this one), the kittens were basically fine within a day or so, while the mother didn't even meow for about a year. I didn't shut her in my house or anything, as it would've been too stressful, it was mainly via food that she slowly became more friendly. I had thought it was just a timid neighbourhood cat until she had kittens on my property. She now sleeps on my bed, will cuddle up on the couch sometimes, etc, but even after years doesn't like being picked up. The kittens were adopted out, after being with fosters for a while.

Fostered kittens like this for years and establishing trust, purring, even meowing is such a breakthrough. It’s the moment you realize all of your hard work was actually worth something. It also gives you a confirmation that this animal will be able to find a forever home. Breaking ferals on their caution to human hands, voices, overall interaction can be incredibly difficult and sometimes impossible to achieve.

My dad rescues cats. Storm his newest one was in a abusive house, and left in the flat alone for Dave days straight. Three of them days without food or water. She hated my dad at first. I was the one who found her, I’ll never forget that moment she saw me. After a few weeks and socialising with the older cats, she jumped on my dad. One morning he stroked her when he woke up. Now she sleeps on his chest and demands cuddles. It took her longer to warm up to me. She was abused by her female owner, so it’s obvious. But I noticed she’d sit and watch from afar. Then when I was eating she came up to me. She didn’t let me stroke her the usual way I do with the boys, she’d duck away if I put my whole palm on her head. It took her a little bit but that night I saw her watching me twice. Since then she”# come to me and my mam for stroked. She adores my mam. But she knows my mam is scared of her. While I’m all guns blazing, come here I’ll stroke you. I’m used to dogs, or Phoenix and Jasper who are stronger, bigger cats Jasper was bigger than my dog. Hearing her meows is like a dog toy, but I’d not change it for the world.

From her size (all that long fur makes them look bigger than they are!) I would say she couldn’t be more than about 6 months old. There is an age, for kittens/cats, that once gone beyond that age without socialization the less likely they will be able to be socialized & adopted. _However_ I have seen it done with feral pregnant cats from a KZbin channel I follow that takes care of 2 feral colonies & other cats brought to them. Most of their “feral” pregnant moms end up being adopted. I think it’s because they’re there for so long & they see humans helping take care of the kittens, & often making the mom feel better because they frequently have some sort of health issue, from dental to viral.
@jmontigny73673 жыл бұрын
If a true feral manages to have enough exposure to watching other cats having positive interactions with humans and is finally brave enough to handle being stroked - miracles can happen. Most people are quick to call any outdoor cat "feral" when they are anything but. Either way, it's all about trust. Once they understand we can give them food and make them feel good with strokes and love then it's darn near impossible to peel them off of you. 💕
