@Get on the cross and don’t look back ya know I was actually thinking the whole time I watched this video "yeah but what does the LAWD have to say about beavers?" "And Lo! There was a fuzzy fat little potato with adorable hands that went forth and nibbled all the sticks. Repent!" (Tbf I believe in a higher power and the undeniable good that a community of faithful folks can do. But good god what a random place to pick to say somethin like that, and I hope you know that you're doing more harm than good. People like you that quote the bible all over the place, Capitalizing half the WORDS in a Sentence and yelling at Everyone to repent and pick your guy and burn in hell otherwise....it kept me from letting go and having faith. Beavers were causing serious drainage issues in my area, and they were paying trappers to kill them. I designed and installed several "beaver deceivers" which solved the drainage problems and eliminated the need to trap the beavers. If you have problems with beavers, I urge you to consider it as a solution. You can also install hardware cloth around the trunks of trees you want to protect.
@cathychick18873 жыл бұрын
Good for you!
@marthachampagne3163 жыл бұрын
i have long considered the need to kill wildlife as a sign that the person in question is to stupid or un-creative to figure out how to modify the animals behavior. beavers build dams at the point of least resistance where they can hear the sound of running water. therefore to stop the beaver from damming up the culvert 1) use chicken wire to keep the beavers 5 ft from the culvert, 2) place a line of good sized rocks, mud, and wooden stakes a bit behind the fencing, 3) add a large flexible pipe with a screw on cap through the dam site, it should pass several feet past the width of the dam, 4) use some sacrificial speakers playing the sound of running water overnight centered at the better dam site, 5) when dam is dangerously full unscrew pipe cap from secret drainage channel, you must stand at the pipe the entire time you drain water from the dam to prevent the beavers approaching the pipe and discovering the drainage system and be sure to properly recap the pipe once water is reduced to safer levels. that is the proper way to stop beavers from blocking drainage culverts. now people need to stop building things where a simple fallen tree and some random debris swept down in a rainstorm can turn the place into a bog. building in such an easily flooded place is just poor planing and those people need to take responsibility for their own poor decisions. if you realy want to build there plan ahead and expect the place to flood periodically. maby just build a stilt house and build the pond yourself, a little dredging and you have a nice swimming hole, fishpond, ect. right off your front porch, make it a feature you incorporate in your planing instead of trying to blame wildlife for your own poor decisions. ok. end of rant.
@jamesbarca72293 жыл бұрын
@@marthachampagne316 Thanks for the reply. Actually, a properly designed/constructed beaver deceiver is pretty much maintenance-free. Once installed, it prevents the water level from going up in the first place. You don't have to do anything but inspect it occasionally. I built my first one around 10 years ago, and it worked so well that numerous landowners/organizations have asked me to design them for their locations. Generally, you take a flexible culvert pipe and run it through the beaver dam (it's easiest to do the excavation when the water level behind the dam is high, as the flowing water makes it much easier and carries the debris away for you). I usually place the pipe, so the opening is around 20 feet away from the dam, then surround it with a section of fencing around 10 feet square. This way, 1. It's far enough removed from the dam they don't associate the movement with water passing through their dam (thus deceiving them). 2. even if they did (which they never seem to), they can't get to the opening of the pipe to block it. It is best to put an exclusion fence around the outlet also, or they will try to bury it. You have to adjust the design for your particular location. The one I designed earlier this year drains an entire chain of lakes, is 130 feet long, and the opening is 40 feet back from the dam. The lake levels have always been up and down, depending on rainfall, but since installing the deceiver the lake levels have been extremely consistent. It's nice showing up at the access and always having just the right water level at the boat launch ramp. Funny thing is the beavers actually did us a favor in this instance. The state would never allow us to build a dam to control the level of the lakes, but since the beavers built the dam, we could legally install the control device. Win/win.

How interesting and instructive your comment and Martha's sound. I think that there have been "experiments" with introducing beavers in the South of my country but either they failed or perhaps there were fears of them reproducing too much. I know this is a year old comment, and yes it was super cute. it's also really sad though because I had a kitten that used to do the same thing. it's a sign of being removed from their mother way too soon...

Huge respect people. This such responsible move to move the beaver into a habitat suitable for them and knowing that you genuinely tried to rehabilitate him makes me happy. Its refreshing to see such people inbetween all those who have wild cats as pet just for being a showcase pieces.

Sadly JB recently passed, but thru his videos he will continue to teach people how beavers contribute to a healthy properly functioning ecosystem. JB and his kind are nature's engineers. JB was immensely loved and will be immensely missed. 🦫🤎🦫

I read a book written by another lady who rescued a baby Beavers and others and she released hers back into the Wild, once it was a little older. It went right back to being a wild Beaver very quickly and would not come to her at all in just a couple of weeks, I think it was. They run pretty much on instinct she said and can be returned to the wild fairly easily.

where I live, in my region, there are a lot of those little things...but farmers hate them, they destroy cornfields, they destroyed many trees and let them fall on fields crushing the wheat, the damps stop the flow of a creak and that creates many problems... I just hope someone doesn't do anything bad to them... Many times people forget that animals were first somewhere... greetings from Slovenia
