Cows are more domesticated, they have gone through centuries of breeding to encourage not only more milk but more gentle behaviors around humans. Even then cows are still big animals that you have to be careful around. In all likeliness there is no danger here it’s just good to have a cautious respect. Like with horses, you can raise them from a baby but they can still hurt you unintentionally because their instinct when startled is to kick out. Also this bison sees her as her mom and part of the herd, she likely won’t be very friendly to strangers so she has to be careful of that as well.

Since you asked about updates, the women featured in this video unfortunately got into a very bad horse accident about a week ago and had to be airlifted to a trauma center. From what I have heard the little bison will have to go back to Montana for the time being.

It's fascinating that she doesn't even need a lead to stick with the rest of them. She may get sidetracked by something she sees, but then she just runs right back to the rest of them without any hesitation. So beautiful!

Bison are not domesticated, they are wild animals. Lucy is socialized and hopefully she will remain tame. Some people will mix bison with cattle, and even breed hybrids. This has cause issues for conservationists that are trying hard to keep some herds of bison “pure”, without any cattle dna. I have visited bison herds and they are both beautiful and scary. When the cows have calves they are quite protective and their bass growl really gets your attention. Bulls are solitary, foolish people will approach them only to be injured or killed, they tend not to give a warning they will attack.

I have been to Yellowstone in spring with my family, where there were buffaloes threading through in front of our cars in a parking lot. The one trotting in front of our car unexpectedly, was incredibly beautiful, immensely strong, shiny with health and had the looks and size of the prime male. He looked as if he had just been groomed and was ready for the lead in a five star movie. He was huge! While he was literally moving muscle, he commanded respect just for passing by. Whenever we were near where buffalo passed, or were there first, Park Police on bullhorns demand visitors not approach the buffalo on foot for photos, as some visitors could not all understand buffalo were wild and dangerous, and belonged, while we were only short-term visitors, and could be leaving, unexpectedly soon.
