My guess is she was owned by an individual who was either ill, disabled or elderly so did not get out much, and that owner, shall we say, loved the doggo too much. That owner either passed or went into care and the person or persons taking care of their estate and affairs just tossed the dog onto the street. Cindy is in recovery, very happy and very much loved, so that is all that matters now.

I am so proud of those who saw how much trouble that poor pup was in and decided to fix it! It's awesome that so many people put in so much time helping Cindy lose weight. But their efforts would have been pointless if Cindy hadn't worked so hard herself. Given her condition when she was rescued, it was amazing to see her push herself to walk a little further every day. When she jumped up on the bed, and started running outside, I may have cheered a little. It's great that she was adopted by one of the people who helped her lose weight, because it means that she'll never get that unhealthy again.❤️❤️ I've seen a number of similar stories about morbidly obese pets, and many times they're owned by someone elderly who loves them by feeding them far too much, while also not being able to take them for walks or exercise them. Cindy could possibly have been dumped by the family if Cindy's owner after they passed away, if none of them wanted to deal with an extremely overweight dog that could barely walk.

@@lizannz4711 A lot of times elderly people over-feed their pets thinking that they’re being loving by giving them treats. Other times the elderly owner might have dementia and forget that they already fed their pets, so they end up feeding them several times every day. They also might supplement these multiple meals (that the owner thinks was just 1 or 2 meals) with their own food, which might be fried or otherwise unhealthy. Then the owner dies, there’s no one to take care of the pets, so they end up on the streets. (I regularly volunteer at a cat shelter and we get a few cats a year that are in exactly this situation. They’re overweight because their owner had dementia, then the owner died, so the family surrendered the cat to us so we could find a home for them. But not everyone has the option of a shelter and not every pet has people that care.)

I'm so glad this dog is doing much better and that human kindness isn't dead. If it hadn't been for this rescuer who had the heart to rescue Cindy and take her to the vet, and foster her and helped the dog with her weight loss journey, this dog could have died. I'm thinking Cindy was someone's dog at one time, and maybe the previous dog owner over fed Cindy and just let the dog's weight get out control and not do a thing about it. I'm thinking Cindy's previous owner just didn't wanna deal with Cindy anymore and abandoned the dog, as if the dog could take care of itself. Some humans don't deserve to be pet owners.

Cindy Crawford, that is hilarious. My old girl Gabby, a Heeler cross, she passed away more than 10 years ago now, she climbed up in weight, it was so gradual that I did not even know, till I looked @ some photos of how she was years before. I was mortified, she was no where near as bad as Cindy but non the less over weight. I felt that I had failed her. I felt guilty. I never fed her junk, I just fed her too much. The vet said given her breed she would likely find it hard to loose weight. I did some reading & chasing on the subject & opted to reduce her red meat intake supplementing it with fish. With in 3 months she was back to a healthy weight. She was a stray so I don't know what her true age was, but she was with me for 13 years , I guess she was maybe 4-5 years when she came into my life, I am told 16-18 is pretty good for her breed. She was such a sweet heart, she was pure love. I miss her every day, she was special, loved everyone even those that did not deserve it, she was a better person than I will ever be.

Dejarles llegar a ese sobrepeso es, de alguna manera, otro tipo de maltrato... y lo digo yo, amante de los animales, que tengo un gatote de 15 años gordito😓, lo recogi de la calle y se me fue de las manos, ahora incluso la veterinaria me dice que es peor el estrés que puede causarle "ponerle a dieta" que su condición física, así que, como con nosotros mismos, lo mejor es mantenerte de forma diaria y no dejarse llegar tan lejos😪 Gran trabajo con esa perrita, la habéis devuelto las ganas de vivir❤
