Love that he keeps calling him good lad. Love this groomers accent. Love these dogs. They were so popular in the late 60s and 70s. I would love to bring them back.

deniseg812 they take a very dedicated owner both in grooming and in training. I feel like a lot of people wouldn't be able to keep up with them.

Not so many are left,anymore, though years ago I had 5 afghans..papers & all.(And a mutt I found & adopted).. Did all my own grooming & showed them also....the afghans. Now, we're admonished to choose from dogs that are already here & need adopting. Which they all do, both & all do. Plus the prices for purebreds has skyrocketed as the new kids on the block have also...designer dogs. Like Labradoodles...an actual breed now I've read, or Puggles or Chiweenies..The purebred is still worth owning..& showing dogs is great, too.They all are. Nowadays, people are following instead of leading.Someone gets a certain dog..say that a sports figure or movie star has...then they want one just like theirs...not go to say ... a dog show & watch many & choose one you like for yourself. Remember Lassie or Rin TinTin? I would never think of living without a dog. The regal, yet humble dog Your friend for life. Purebreds have had certain things bred into them over hundreds or thousands.of years, but No matter what..when you get a dog, they will be your friend for life.Your best friend(s).

I’m lucky that in Australia I found 1 litter of puppies for sale, might be getting one 😆 and don’t worry I wash my Jack Russell terriers once every 2-3 weeks, and will do the same to my Afghan if not more often.

This is an amazing grooming video for Afghans. We had one back around 69-70. She was papered and had the perfect tail according to professionals. We didn't do anything to get it to curl that way, it just was. She was a beautiful dog and very funny. Loved to get loose and run around on the golf course across from our house. People would stop and watch her run. Watching her run fast and free was an amazing sight. Sadly she chewed up one to many pairs of my dad's leather shoes so she went to a new home. They bred her and she had 17 puppies. It turned out she was to big to show. She was bigger than any of the males we went to see. I will always remember her. This grooming video is amazing. It gives so many tips on the right and wrong way to groom them. Clearly you never want to take an Afghan Hound to a groomer who is not experienced in grooming them. Thanks for bringing back those fond memories of her.

Beautiful dog, beautiful groom... But I was cringing as you began to brush the wet coat. I was taught to ALWAYS begin brushing the tips of the hair and with each stroke place the brush just a bit higher towards the body. This opens up the ends of the hair so that as you move upwards, brushing down, you are moving the strands to where they are not crossed... Instead of pushing crossed hairs into tighter mini tangles, which is what I was seeing as you brushed. Just saves me time not having to open out the tangles I have made, and less stress on the dog's hair.

Thank you. Great info. Just got 2 afghans. I want their coats to be beautiful. Don't mind the high maintenance. How do you keep an afghan from scratching. They are on flea control.
@RobynMichaels18 жыл бұрын
You have to determine why they are scratching. Environmental or food allergy? Sensitivity to the shampoo you use?
@paulakaiser71383 жыл бұрын
Wow! What an amazing presentation. Love this breed, but you are correct. Serious high maintenance. Love your ethics on how to work with the dog during the groom. Lots of praise and just being gentle. Had to leave the profession due to the abuse my coworkers were inflicting on our clients pups. You are an amazing Professional Groomer!!! Love your video💝😊

Bathing once a week is best to keep your dog looking ready for a show. Massage panagenics leave in conditioner in to dry coat and leave overnight. Next day apply panagenics shampoo on dry coat. Rinse. Apply panagenics hydrating spray liberally on coat and then blow dry. For stubborn stains on feet and tail, use groomers goop and rinse off. Now you will have a squeaky clean show ready dog.

Edith Seelhoff NO, they do not shed! The only exception is when they transform to their adult hair and shed their puppy hair. They grow single strand hair just as you or I do. They do not have fur with an undercoat like most dogs. They shed once and it is done😎👍💕🐾🐾

I cannot imagine having this breed. its skin and bones and so fragile you have to be careful when putting him in and out of bath? I have 2 big caucasian shepherds - one is 88kg another 93kg and even when they have some disagreements between each other and they fight they rarely get injured. I would be worried to even hug this afgan hound not to break some of its bones.
@erniholt93573 жыл бұрын
It is not the body which is sensitive, it is their dispositions. In almost 40 years (1981), I have only had one instance where I had to see vet care for an injury...a fight between my female at and my sisters english shepherd bitch. Other than that, my dogs run at 40 miles an hour, body slam each other, and love a good natured sibling fight..no problem.
