@@amathonn First of all "peel n stick" roofs require a smooth surface to adhere to. That's why they make a "base" sheet underlayment that installs first. Then the peel n stick membrane adheres to that. Second you NEVER put a nail in it! Especially in the overlap seam! Third it requires a edge metal that goes around the perimeter edge for it to adhere to correctly to prevent wind from getting under and blowing it off! I honestly don't know how people get by doing shotty work like this!! I promise you it didn't stick and you could pull it up with ease! Um... holy crap. this is an underlayment where the manufacturer specifically states NEVER to apply to an old roof but to ONLY apply "directly to plywood, OSB (Oriented strand board), wood planks, concrete, or masonry or Loadmaster surfases. Weather Watch Leak Barrier should be covered with roofing as soon as possible and no more than 60 days after installation" quote from SDS. I honestly think this guy got this confused for peel and stick roofing, of which he still would have done wrong. I mean, geez the amount of lawsuit-worthiness is beyond comprehension with this one.

This is not underlayment. It's a Rolled roofing material.
@misterlyle.8 ай бұрын
@@mrreams711 As noted above, product instructions clearly indicate that the WeatherWatch material has a limited time after installation before the final roofing is installed over it. If exposed for too long, UV damage may occur, the product lifetime will be shortened and the warranty will expire. Others have used WeatherWatch as the final roofing treatment as well, but this is not in compliance with the manufacturer's instructions. It obviously works, but the durability and performance over time will suffer.

KZbin (trained) roofers are the entire reason why consultants get paid so much. When you have entire companies who's combined experience is "well I saw the video but I couldn't quite understand the code books or manufactures label" and lawyers just see "huh, he has a license", you spend years in arbitration, just to have guys like this pay for complete reroof, framing, drywall, and other consequential damages. no this is not rolled roofing, this is weather watch ice and water shield, as a previous comment stated it is not meant to be exposed to the elements. the way it works, is as an underlayment. the tar in the asphalt on the rubber sticky backing heats up and seals off nail heads. use this material as an underlayment for all your eaves, valleys, and roof to walls. any time you use ice and water shield use cap nails and remove all the backing, as well as the plastic strip at the transition (avoid nailing 3" from each side of the valleys) here is what you should do 1. Remove everything down to the decking, or tear out the decking and install new decking, best way to go is with a zip system. use new drip edge with an asphalt primer 2. Use SA Base sheet Run it under the new drip, with cap nails the run cap sheet over the top of it let it hang over the drip about 1/2" 3. take of the siding and run both base and cap sheet 8" up the wall and put roll flashing, zip tape the roll flashing on then reinstall the siding

you're wrong, it's not an underlayment. Absolutely meant to be used as an exposed layer and comes with a lifetime warranty from the big boxes. Just because you don't know about it, it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
@RoofingFacts4 жыл бұрын
@@infraprods Now let's pretend that 1510.3 doesn't exist and this was put on to code, and instead of consulting any legal body or AHJ, let us actually consult the manufacturer, since you don't believe. Let's see the manufacturer's videos where they identify it as an UNDERflashing not to be installed on top kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIbTdmOXhb-hY6c Or where they call it an ice dam/leak barrier for underlayment... No no no. Just because the manufacturer posted a video saying it doesn't mean it is true. I mean they have multiple videos maybe they didn't identify all it's potential uses. What about the next video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWrNZKuOpptlgbs Crap. They call it underlayment. Oh wait, let us quote the manufacturer's video at 2:11 "make certain that all of the weatherwatch or storm guard is covered by the drip edge as these products are not designed to be permanently exposed to sunlight." This is the EXACT product he used. Ok so the manufacturer's reps aren't the brightest. how about reading the side of the box or instructions? gafmc.com.ua/documents/WeatherWatch/WeatherWatch%20ApplicationInstructions.pdf Now we will ignore the MULTIPLE installation instructions he also ignored like overlapping, metal details, etc., and skip directly to .... oh wait. literally the first line of the instructions. "Weather Watch® Leak Barrier Application Instructions Weather Watch® Leak Barrier may be applied directly to plywood, OSB (oriented strand board), wood planks (non-chamfered edges), concrete or masonry or Loadmaster surfaces. Weather Watch® Leak Barrier should be covered with roofing as soon as possible and within 60 days after its installation. Backnail every 18” (45.72cm) in the selvage edge" should be covered with roofing as soon as possible and within 60 days after its installation.... Covered with roofing as soon as possible and within 60 days... Covered with roofing... within 60 days.... WAIT WAIT WAIT the instructions are different if reroofing!!!! My apologies "Reroofing: After removing shingles or existing metal roof, roofing felts, nails, and fasteners from area to be covered with Weather Watch® Leak Barrier, replace water-damaged sheathing and sweep roof deck thoroughly. Priming is not required for attachment to wood surfaces. Concrete and masonry surfaces must be primed with ASTM D-41 primer prior to the application of the leak barrier." And then you have to cover it in ACTUAL ROOFING IN 60 DAYS Ok so we have determined that every youtuber and roofer here is not as smart as you and does not know how to install this. And now we have determined the manufacturer lies in it's videos. And the manufacturer apparently can neither read it's own instructions or write them. Oh but wait! What about the International Code Council Evaluation Service Report aka ESR-1322. icc-es.org/report-listing/esr-1322/ It is listed as underlayment or ice dam membrane only, with direct to deck applications... nothing about installing it as a top surface... except where it specifically says it must be covered by a roof covering. and also states it cannot PER CODE be installed on any roof under 2:12 slope. Ok so the International Code Council is only literally the governing body of code and has been since the late 90s, they are far to new and inexperienced. Clearly we need someone with closer to your experience and clearly infallible knowledge. Ok so it is classified as ASTM D1970, aka American Society for Testing and Materials aka "D1970: Standard Specification for Self-Adhering Polymer Modified Bituminous Sheet Materials Used as Steep Roofing Underlayment for Ice Dam Protection". But they have only been one of the leaders in testing since the late 1800's, what do they know. Sorry for the sarcasm, this was written for another person who has been fighting this tooth and nail for a year. I am, admittedly, copy and pasting this answer because it took me 5 whole minutes to type and research something that is literally as easy as googling the product name.

Home Depot sells 150 square foot WeatherWatch (a GAF product) for $80. They also have a video on how to use it, for comparison.

I've got to point out that, THAT is not roofing material. That is Ice and Water Barrier. It is an underlayment for valleys, and eaves of a roof. It won't last a year exposed to the weather. It's made to lay shingles over in high risk, wet areas.

Also at 8:59 When he starts mumbling on about.the gutter.straps , there only about 2-3 inches on the roof , your soffit extends about a foot under your roof so if it did happen to leak, the water wouldn't enter your house ...

the only thing that would have made this funnier is if he fell down the ladder at the very end.

That would have been the only thing that was funny... The rest of this video is criminal.. He just ripped off this person.

@@kyleking1401 how did he just rip this guy off? Obviously you work for a roofing company sms only know what you habe been taught.. You probably think this is under layment? Lol go to some trade shows and you will learn about new products... this is the same thing as torch down accept you don't need a torch it already had the very very sticky bonding agent on the back. A company basically took ice and waters idea and applied it to applied it to torch down roofs. This product is 4 times thicker then ice and water. So know what your talking about. Or someone like myself will call you out and make you look dumb

@@johndeleonardo9133 No ..it is ice & water shield underlayment.. And no product no matter what part of the country your from will stick properly to that old 90lb roll or hot roof... A torch down roof would b boarder line ccorrect but this douche would prolly burn down the women's house

Kyle King almost everything you just said was wrong, the under laymen he used was heavy duty and meant to stick for awhile, nothing about what he was doing was a criminal
