I don't think Flint was killed by Silver. Firstly, If Silver had killed Flint on the island they'd have returned to Rackham's ship either without Flint or with Flint's dead body. But Rackham himself told grandma Guthrie that Flint wasn't dead, and that his "retirement" was a far better outcome. Sure, Rackham might have lied, but what about the rest of his crew? I don't think they'd have been able to keep something as important as that a secret. And they would have know if Flint had been killed, because how else would his "absence" on the ship be explained. "Welcome back! Where's Flint btw?" "Oh yeah, he decided to stay. On an isolated island. All alone. Without food. Told us he'd grow coconuts." "K, makes sense." Secondly, there's the conversation between Silver and Flint on the island. Silver explains how he understands the pain Flint felt because of his lost, then goes on to tell him that he's "made arrangements" and also *"I will stand here with you, for an hour, a day, a year, while you find a way to accept this outcome."* What outcome? The fact that Thomas has been alive all along, something that Silver knew that Flint would have a hard time accepting. Silver knew about the fact that Thomas was alive long before that. There's a conversation in episode 4 that goes like this: *"Wouldn't you trade it all to have Thomas Hamilton Back again?" "I think if he knew how close we were to the victory he gave his life to achieve, he wouldn't want me to. "I see. Though that wasn't really what I asked, was it? Assume his father was just as dark as you say, but was unable to murder his own son. Assume he found a way to secret Thomas away from London..." "He didn't." "Would you trade this war to make it so?" (no answer from Flint)* At first this seemed like Silver was just thinking out loud on what Max had told him, would he really do that, considering he knew that it was a sensitive subject? I think that he'd already found out that Thomas was alive, and was just testing to see how Flint would react, to know how he should tell him when the time required him to. He found out that it wasn't going to be easy and that Flint would have a hard time accepting the truth (hence the gun on the island) because Flint didn't want to realize that he'd spend over a decade fighting a war whilst Thomas had been rotting away somewhere. If Silver had intended to kill Flint, he would have done it. Why would he have said "I've made arrangements so that we may leave here together" if he was going to kill him anyways. Now, you could argue that Thomas was alive, but Flint didn't accept the truth. As Silver said himself, it wasn't easy to persuade him but it eventually worked. But why would Flint not accept the truth about Thomas when he'd spent so long fighting a war in his name? He said it himself *"Flint. Every day I've worn that name I've hated him a little more"* He never wanted to be Flint, so when there was a chance he could finally be free of him, he took it. Why wouldn't he? So I think he was reunited with Thomas and they lived happily ever after! If James and Thomas actually stayed on the plantation is a different subject. Maybe they did, because maybe James was sick of fighting and decided to abandon Captain Flint for good, or maybe they decided "Fuck this shit, let's leave" (which they probably would have been able to, Flint did far more impossible shit than than)

Though the theory of Silver killing Flint interesting, I think that he actually sent him to the plantation. The episode opens on one of Silver's men talking to the plantation master asking if they have Thomas Hamilton, a character that is said to be dead, but that we never see dead; and in most tv shows that mean the character is alive (which is what the writers did with Billy, twice). This scene is a flashback but not part of a retelling, it's shown as it is so we understand later when Silver explains what happened. I think this scene would not have been written if this was just part of a lie. I don't remember the exact quote but a few episode earlier we see Silver ask Flint if he had the chance to get reunited with Thomas if he were still alive, would he abandon this war to get with him, in a way that implies Thomas is still alive and Silver *knows* where to find him. (Not to mention this question is a bit odd to ask if he didn't know.) We're told later that Silver had already sent his man to get informations on the plantation by that point. Flint also tells Silver Madi would never forgive him for preventing the war from happening, and even a good liar such as him could not make up a story good enough for her to forgive him. So he tells her the truth. Because that's the only way she could ever forgive him. Also I think Jack's quote about a story being true or untrue is more directed to the viewers who knew about the real Calico Jack Rackham and Anne Bonny's story. Because despite how shitty their story was irl, the show makes us want to believe in their romance, we want to believe they continued sailing for a long time, and that they were partners until they got "put in the fucking ground". Now I haven't read the book and only knew about the historical pirates before watching the show, but anyway, I agree on everything else in this video.

I feel like there's no way they killed Flint off. The show has never given us fake scenes in a unreliable narrator style of writing before. I don't even think they intended it to seem like he killed flit. The birds flying off was obviously Silver firing a shot to fake Flint's death, and to fake out the audience, and Jacks' monologue at the end was talking about real history, not the show.
@TfJedisuper
@TfJedisuper 6 жыл бұрын
why would Silver fake Flint's death...? His men would all have been in on the plan, he didn't smuggle Flint back to the ship alive and take him to a plantation without the crew noticing. Jack's monologue was the most telling part IMO that Flint died, it's all about how the narrative is more important than the truth, and how if people knew Flint was dead he would become a martyr and inspire others, Flint appearing to give up his cause robs the image of Captain Flint of all his romance and defiance. That theme of the narrative being more important than the truth has been there since episode one, and Flint's pretend happy ending encapsulates that. Also, In the first season Flint talks to Elenor about the fields of Elysium, the greek heaven, in the Iliad/Odyssey, and the 'plantation' we see at the end has all the characteristics of Elysium, the fields, the long grass, everyone in white, loved ones long gone waiting for you, and that weird white haze filter they applied specifically to that one scene which gives it that ethereal dreamlike vibe, in a similar fashion to how religious heavens are often depicted. Furthermore, for a show that was brutally realistic (for the most part) about how there aren't happy endings in life and how most of the time the bad guys come out on top, Thomas being alive would undermine one of the show's central themes and seems so out of place in a show that brutally kills off characters where they would realistically be killed e.g. Blackbeard and Vane. We never actually hear Thomas is alive in that scene of Silver's man at the Plantation (if it even happened), it's just implied, though i agree the show could've handled that red herring better.
@MoonBeamLight
@MoonBeamLight 3 жыл бұрын
TfJedisuper The writers literally said Thomas was still alive and it's why they never showed him dead, because they always wanted to bring him back somewhere. One could even argue that when Eleanor asked Madi if she felt one could live alone in isolation with someone they loved, unaware of what might happen and Madi said she felt you could, that could have been a for shadowing for Flint snd Thomas. It didn't apply to Eleanor or Madi. Also, the writers said the show was to follow the book as much as they could, so Flint dying on the island doesn't make sense to the book. I also just simply don't think Silver could bring himself to kill Flint after they had come to care for one another so much. Another aspect the writers touched on.

Flint killed a guy who knew about Mrs Barlow and it was outside of camera, we only saw the body. It looked like he was crushed by the ship, Flint never stated that he killed that man. When we thought he killed Billy, he came back alone from the side of the ship. There were scenes likes this, when it was heavily implied that someone killed someone, only it wasnt shown, just hinted. The birds, the fking birds... They didnt fly for no reason.

I kind of agree. The end should have been an open one. They fail to retake Nassau but carry on with piracy, leaving things open for a lot of subsequent adventures all around the globe for Flint, Silver etc. Flint would have died later in Savannah from the drinking habits he took after the losses of Thomas, Miranda and Nassau. Billy should have come back somehow towards the end of the show (I never lost hope until the last episode), and Black Dog and Pew the Blind would have joined off screen after the show ends. This kind of ending would not have been too difficult to put together, would be quite poetic with a "never ending fight" spirit, and could fit perfectly with Treasure Island's storyline. Too bad. Still my favourite show though.

I don't remember them going back and touching on the conversation that Flint had with Silver while they were training with swords. Flint wanted to know Silvers [real] past. Flint knew Silver was lying about his past. He even let Silver know that after all of the things Flint had told Silver about his love for Thomas and his deepest, darkest secrets, that Silver would still find a reason to lie. Now I would hope that I just missed this follow up in the series, but I literally binged watched the entire series in like a week and I don't remember that coming back up. It felt like it was something worth knowing if they kept holding it back during this scene. *Side note, I feel that Vane and Teach died for nothing when Silver ended the war. Vane hung himself to start the revolution, and then silver's like, nah I'm good dog..

This from the creator: Silver had located Flint's long-lost lover Thomas (Rupert Penry-Jones), believed to be dead, working his life sentence at a cushy plantation prison. He sent Flint to live out the rest of his life with Thomas on the plantation, saved Madi and vowed to wait for her to forgive him for as long it would take.

Just ended this show it was a masterpiece from the start to the very end. I could never imagine that the show would end in this way and I love that It did. To see Flint get a happy ending after all suffering and pain he have gone through. Flint was just a mask for the real human named James. Flint was created when he felt like there was nothing good left in the world and he needed to burn it to ashes. But James in reality is a loving man who cares about his close friends and loved ones this ending showed all of that. They did not even need to say anything the scene it inself was so powerful. One of the best shows I ever seen is this.

I feel like they went out on a good note. That said, I think that they could fit a miniseries in-between Black sails and Treasure Island that could explain the Billy Bones/map thing. Silver would never give up on the Treasure and wait for 20 years to get it. Perhaps he goes back to Skeleton Island and looks for it but his crew starts dropping dead from disease or something. It would also be great if Starz just made their own adaptation of Treasure Island with this same level production quality and R rating and none of the shitty cartoon pirate dialog that runs throughout the book. I felt like they really needed another season to wrap things up! They rushed the ending and it kinda was too sudden imo but nonetheless this was an excellent series. One thing I've heard that makes a lot more sense in regarding to this show is that it is a prequel for treasure island so hopefully there's more to come! Cause I doubt captain flint would sit there on a plantation and drop everything he lost to this war I think he would see it through to the end.

In the end, not sure what they could've done. In the end, we know that piracy died out in the Caribbean. It was much more profitable to trade with your enemy in the long run than to fight them, and whilst pirates had their uses in war they were a liability to peacetime trade, and eventually every one of the major powers joined forces to stomp them out. Against that Silver knew that the best thing they could hope for was to cut a deal.

No, Silver didn't kill Flint. The proof of that is this. Black Sails does a great job setting each of the characters back story for the book Treasure Island. It explains why Billy Bones was "black spotted" and in fear for his life from Long John Silver and other pirates that sailed with Flint when Billy was at the Inn owned by Jim Hawkins mother. Black Sails even sets up the back story of Silver being pirateto be feared, how he lost his leg, how he got his nick name Long John Silver and even in the book mentions he was married to a black woman...Madi It sets up how Captain Flint was known in the book Treasure Island as the most feared pirate captain of that age. In the book Treasure Island Captian Flint dies in an Inn in Savannah Ga. from drinking to much rum. But it does mention he gives Billy Bones the map to the treasure. So therefore Silver could not have killed Flint. The Black Sails TV show does very well in keeping with the novel Treasure Island. They would not have changed that last part by having Silver kill Flint. The work camp that Silver sends Flint to was near Savannah. BTW it was a work prison camp amd not a slave camp. Based on the show the prisoners were treated rather humanely as opposed to the way slaves were treated. On a side note, the Inn where the fictional character Captain Flint dies is said the be the real Inn in Savannah. It was where Robert Lious Stevenson was inspired to write Treasure Island. It is still there and now a restaurant named the Pirate House. It has been visited by several real historical pirates and in the 1990's they discovered a tunnel leading from the Inn to the Savannah River that pirates and smugglers used to smuggle in their "booty" to fence.

Man, I am so mad at Silver. Don´t know if I´m being unfair but here it goes. Silver was in a journey to the simple "cook" to quartermastes to be the KING OF THE PIRATES. Now, nobody in the entire series liked Flint in the leadership. Then I thought: "hey, Silver is gonna kill Flint and be a better leader". So, I kept watching and just saw silver do shit countless times. He intended to deliver the urca gold to Rogers many times just to save Madi. In the end, when the governor went to the island he got his best men killed chasing Filnt plus the men he left behind in the ship that also got killed. What sort of strategy is that? In the final scene with Flint, he BETRAYED all because he was afraid of a war just to live "a happy life"with Madi.What about the cause and to "step to role we created for you"? What about Charles Vane and Blackbeard? How he can destroy all the work of 4 seasons just to live a idealized life with a woman? And his answer is "I don´t care". Now, Rogers had to get support from the Spanish navy and bring a goddamn army to get the pirates out of Nassau. For the "king of the pirates", it was simple as to write a few letters and put a knife on everyone´s backs. And after that, he ceased to be a pirate to be a freaking fisherman or whatever the hell he bacame. I get why he did all of it, didn´t want to get anyone killed in a war set to be failed. But it doens´t absolve him to be the ultimate traitor of the series, betraying wishes, dreams of others without their consent. That´s what I think, at least. I´m open for oposite ideas.

Why hate on Silver alone when Flint basically did the same thing? When you truly love someone you should be willing to burn the world for that person. Do we agree? All the major characters in the show at some point were driven by love. Silver's "I don't care" is the perfect summary for his feelings. He doesn't give a fuck about the rest of the world. He just wanted to see his girl our of arms way and if it also meant saving everyone, good for him. He didn't betray anyone. Even Flint the supposedly n°1 betrayed person was happy at the end.
@vitorangelo9155
@vitorangelo9155 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree with that.That´s why I think it is a solid 10/10 ending. All characters were driven by love at some point: Eleanor to Rooger, Flint to Thomas and Miranda, Rackam for Anne and so. Then almost eveyone was killed by the war: Eleanor, Miranda and Anne almost did. That´s why I understand Silver´s actions, Madi would probably die too. Heck, I might even do the same if it were my woman :) I´m not judging if he is right or wrong but what it means to his character. Lets see if I can be more clear taking a look at the characters: Flint was a maquiavelic type of leader. The means justified his ends, in this case, the war. If a quartermaster was in his way, he would kill it. If people seemed confused, he took leadership against their wishes. He used his crew as pawns to die for him. He was driven by his ego and did what he had to, not caring for almost anyone feelings and killing who seemed fitted. "I have survived starvation, a tempest, pirate hunters, jealous captains, mutinous crews, angry lords, a queen, a king, and the goddamn British navy" is a quote that describes him well. Now, lets take a look at Silver. He was this this "adventerous guy" that was trying to get the urca gold for himself and got around with the "angry pirates". Slowly, he transformed getting the love of the crew and rised to be the "man of the people", the bridge between the pirates issues/dreams/wishes to the captain, a quartermaster. The men respected him and to some extent even feared him. So this charismatic man won their peoples trust and his popularity was just raising and Flint´s just decaying. Then at season 3, we get a plot to support Silver replacing Flint as "king of the pirates", creating a role that he could fit on and lead the pirates. He didn´t want it first, but he knew that one day he would have to confront Flint. The turning point was Madi. Then we see his motivations shifting, not much for the pirates wellfare but for Madi´s. We see many times him confused and crying, denying that his love were dead or just goddam worried about her. Until then, just fine, we worry about our loved ones but it doesn´t mean we forget about the rest. Then we see him distracted at Season 4, at Nassaus war and easily trying to change the hard-earned gold for Madi. At some point, he speaks to Julius "If you don´t want to fight the war, it it is happening, with or without you" or something like that. The other, he speaks to Flint "What it is more important: The war or Madi?"...

It is getting a long text :). Lets jump to the end, when Silver send his men to chase Flint knowing that they were gonna die. Now, he has become what he hated about Flint, a merciless leader. His other men died too when he was hunting just to have Madi back. Now, I ask you how much was Silver motivations with the pirates? Just a bit, it seems. Then he ended the war sending some letters and talking to some people and that is it. It is like Jesus Christ went to the hebrews and said: "you know everything about the God I talked about? Forget it. I´ve found a woman and I´m afraid that the romans would kill her or me". Wait, what? Why are your abandoning your ideals? Same with Silver What do you call it? "Character transformation"? A hero saving the pain of others? Just a man in love? I call it the lowest betrayal you can get. Silver ended a war he started to create. Fact. Now, whereas for Flint, he didn´t have much of a choice. Do you really think that he wouldn´t go to war if he had a chance? If he had 3 choices: die, meet Thomas or go to war he wouldn´t choose the latter? He would end what he started. I´ve writed more than I should. If you are reading this you are a god. I could talk more about tis topic, but I got carried away. Lets end here, and if someone ever replied, that would be awesome.

+Vitor Angelo It was an unwinnable war; it would have resulted in more death and destruction and at what cost. Silver was right to choose the woman he loved over a war that would have ultimately consumed her and all those associated with it. As it was, many of their friends had been killed already. There comes a time in every man/woman's life when you have to choose your battles wisely. And the older you get, it becomes even more apparently clear that NOT every battle is worth fighting especially at the expense of losing those you love and those who are important to you (his men). Like the line in the movie, "when you fight against the world, the world fights back"! That alone is a nightmare...and it is exhausting! There are only so many battles that one can endure. It is a wise man who knows when to walk away! Silver, IMO, exemplified strength...the kind of strength that only Real Men possess. It's only a fool who continues down the same path expecting a different outcome only to find out that the results remain the same...death and destruction. Silver was not about to become a martyr in a war that was going nowhere. I commend Silver!

+ Linda Kemp I totally agree. And I think it's important to not only take his love for Madi into account but also his (platonic?) love for Flint. Because as the story goes on it's not only Madi getting more important to him, he also grows closer and closer to Flint. So I think that in the end, however mad he is with Flint, however betrayed he feels or felt... he probably still loves him too much to just kill him. But he did end Captain Flint after all. And some people pointed out that it was probably hard for him to let Flint go. And some people also argue you could, if you're so inclined, read it as Silver actually shooting Flint and telling Madi a lie. And I'm beginning to think it wouldn't even be that much of a difference - in both scenarios he will have saved Madi from the war and ended Captain Flint/ freed James. Which both leaves him without Flint and with Madi maybe never truly forgiving him.

Starz sure know how to turn out a great series, loved Black Sails and Spartacus which coincidentally also ran for 4 seasons. It's a shame they didn't give Spartacus a semi-happy ending like Flint. John Eiselen who played Dufresne in season 1 died before season 2, and Andy Whitfield who played Spartacus in season 1 also died before season 2, another unwanted coincidence between the 2 series. Must admit, like you, Jack Rackham was my favourite character, closely followed by Charles Vane.

I Would really like to see them do their own take on the treasure island story, this John silver could have a few different reasons for wanting to find the treasure again, Perhaps he realizes flints war was necessary? maybe hes scared that finding the treasure will spark the pirate war? maybe he has plans to live with maddie in the civilized world and needs the money to achieve that, id love to see that.

There is no historical record of Anne Bonny being released from prison. But her death is a mystery. Wooden Roger's did return as governor of the Bahamas over a decade later. And he did get rid of pirates . . . but only in Nassau. He became engulfed into a conflict with local business owners and the town council. This led to more health problems and his death within a few years. Because of "Treasure Island", I believe Flint had died of alcoholism in the Georgia colony. Billy Bones had died of alcoholism and a second stroke in England. And if you've read "Treasure Island", you'll know what happened to Long John Silver. He got his hands on a small portion of the treasure through a great deal of luck, theft and his silver tongue.

I really liked the series. But a few things bother me a bit. - Where is Black Dog? - Where is Blind Pew? - The dying Billy Bones mentioned to Jim Hawkins that he got the map from Flint - Why was Billy marooned and not Ben Gunn? - John Silver got way to famous in the show, no way he would fly under the radar 20 years later in his Pub in Boston - I believe to recall that Flint drowned in the book but maybe he drank himself to death - Blackbeard should have gotten a more glorious death in the series - The Flint backstory - him being a former navy officer - was okay, but the gay romance story ark was clearly only included to appease the zeitgeist and kind of ruined it I still enjoyed watching the series. Great costumes, great sets, great actors. But I would have prefered a more consistent approach regarding Billy Bones, how he got ahold of the map and how he turned from the level headed witty guy into the drunk "Captain" that shows up at the Admiral Benbow 20 years later.

LOVE THIS also im still laughing at how everyone just presumes flint is gonna stay at that plantation like lmao seriously? do you even know this character at all?? that man could start a revolt and have them all free within a few days if he set his mind on it. remember this is the same guy that went from being mutinied by his crew and sentanced to death, to taking a fucking warship with one arm, then taking captaincy again within like a week? so yeah I cant imagine he'd settle to see thomas imprisoned there for a day longer tbh. also i cant believe people are even considering silver killing him in the first place?? the writers confirmed that they BOTH loved each other and that a lot of their 'feelings' werent acted upon/were left unsaid, and that flint was silver's first love. flint was the first person silver loved and that is FACT. so like.. cant people see that the reason he forced flint to give up the war was to save his life? he gave flint happiness but sacrificed his /own/ happiness in doing so. his love in doing this was NOT selfish. whereas with madi, he literally took away 'her war' and everything she believed in, everything she wanted to fight for, just so that he wouldnt have to go through the pain of losing her. but he /gives/ flint his happiness. and lives with the pain of never seeing him again. flint literally becomes long john silver's 'thomas hamilton' in treasure island. this ghost of a man that is his motive. his 'lost love'. flint was right, madi wasnt enough for him, he needed flint too. thats why he goes to find the treasure eventually because he realises what he gave up, WHO he gave up. basically to summarise john silver loves james flint A LOT and anyone who thinks he killed him is dead to me

Also I love how everyone (me included) believing Silver told the truth agrees to say that James and Thomas left the plantation within a week or so xD !

Dorky Rosa, I agree that Silver and Flint had a brotherly love/respect kind of relationship. We are on the same page. I think Silver had his men subdue him (no doubt without a fight - Flint is not the type to go down without a fight) and off to the country prison. In fact, I see Flint and Thomas plotting their escape one day and in their attempt to escape maybe they get killed...who knows? The ending is ambiguous so it leaves you to wonder all sorts of scenarios...which is a good thing.

"[Flint and Silver] were *singular* to each other. And maybe the person who they had *the closest and most personal relationship with.* " “We had to embrace the fact that there would have to be *things that were left unsaid and were going to have to exist in subtext and performance and context* in order for it to be honest. That felt right. There is, at least to me when I watch it, *a significant amount happening between them that is all under the surface* […] We relied on the audience a lot to fill in those blanks.” “It was a complicated relationship *with a lot going on under the surface*. Starz gave us the freedom to allow some of these relationships to exist without specific labels and to embrace *that people don’t always say what they’re feeling and exist in the space that people don’t even know about themselves.* ” “ *I think that relationship is meaningful to both of them. It is singular, for both of them.* We’ve never seen Silver invest in someone, in this way. So for him, it’s very new. *It’s the first one of these relationships that we are aware of.* We’ve seen Flint invest in people before, but not in this way, where he has allowed himself to be both Flint and McGraw, openly, and found some measure of comfort in that state. So for him, it’s new, also. I would argue that it’s not a contest, as to which of them felt it more deeply, but I think it was definitely meaningful. Personally, *there wasn’t ulterior motives in their affinity for each other.* *It is genuine and it is complicated, in the way that it’s always complicated when you love someone.* ” - *Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, Writers/Creators/Executive Producers of Black Sails* sources: www.tvinsider.com/152185/black-sails-series-finale-creators-interview/ www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/black-sails-series-finale-explained-jon-steinberg-interview-990505 uk.ign.com/articles/2017/04/03/black-sails-creators-break-down-the-series-finale-name-their-favorite-final-season-moments oh and Toby Stephens the actor that plays Flint said "He needs somebody to be partnered with and Silver becomes the ultimate person. He’s had Thomas, he’s had Mrs. Barlow, and then finally, it’s Silver. In the end, he’s sort of… *the love of his life,* really." and "If he does have romantic feelings for Silver *they are buried deep.* Flint would find it hard admitting it to himself. He has already suffered so much.” so yeah CONFIRMED. as well as loving each other unconditionally, as friends, as two people of the same mind, they also have those romantic feelings there. they were just left unsaid. romantic love was always meant to be a part of it from the start but Starz would't let them show it explicitly on screen. It was evident in the subtext of the writing and the ongoing parallels between Flint/Silver and James/Thomas. Flint is gay, confirmed by toby and the writers. Silver isn't confirmed as anything. he's a mystery, he could be straight, bi or pan we dont know. But the writers saying that he 'exists in a space that he doesnt know about himself' is clearly talking about him not realising he has romantic feelings for Flint, that he's bi/pan. I can understand if you don't see it when you watch them interact, its likely that you have to be queer to recognise it in the performance of the acting. but after watching the episodes as many times as i have. after analysing every line, every detail. after watching the show how it /should/ be watched. its clear that it was always meant to be a love story, a love tragedy between two men.

+ohflint Flint was a very complexed individual, full of manipulations, incapable of loving anyone but himself. Silver was simply a means to an end like all the others who were sucked into the abyss of Flints internal hell. There was no romantic love between Flint and Silver whatsoever but you can perpetuate that narrative if it appeases some internal conflict that you have within yourself. It just wasn't there. Sorry, there was no gay love story there; it's your fantasy.

I'm sorry, but I was disappointed with the ending of Black Sails, at least in regards to Treasure Island characters. Flint, a prisoner at a work camp with his gay lover, Billy Bones marooned on Skeleton Island, this is all wrong. And it leaves so much left not done. 1) The treasure. Captain Flint sailed to the island with a handful of men to bury a vast fortune in treasure. He came back alone (obviously having killed the men ashore, leaving one to become a skeleton that would point the way to the treasure). In Black Sails, all that was buried was a single chest of gems. The rest of the Urca gold was returned to the Spanish. 2) Captain Flint. It's not said how Flint died before Treasure Island, only that he died in Savannah and his last words were "Darby McGraw! Darby McGraw! Fetch me the rum!" (Ben Gunn could have overheard him or tended to Flint, so that would explain him knowing Flint's words) It leads us to suspect that Flint might have been dying from wounds he received in battle. 3) The map. One of the key items to the story of Treasure Island, and Black Sails never showed how the map was made, or how it wound up in Billy Bones possession. We all knew Flint was sneaky and didn't trust his crew, so I wouldn't put it past him to make a map in secret. 4) Long John Silver: In Treasure Island, Silver recounted how he lost his leg in battle, the same battle 'Ol Pew lost his eyes.' In Black Sails, he lost the leg as a result of torture from one of Charles Vane's lieutenants. 5) The crew of the Walrus: In the end, the majority of the Walrus crew was killed in battle. But certain crew members were left out of this story completely, such as Blind Pew and Black Dog. At first, I thought Dufresne would become Pew, as he was the only crew member to be seen with spectacles. But that changed after Silver caved in his skull with his peg leg. 6) Billy Bones: The last we saw of Billy, he was marooned on Skeleton Island instead of Ben Gunn (whom we never saw again after the battle) It would have made more sense to have seen him pull into a harbor requesting an inn, and one citizen points him in the way of the Admiral Benbow Inn.

The show explains why what happened in the show happened, as opposed to how it "really happened". Jack Rackham said "A story is true. A story is untrue. As time extends it matters less and less. The stories we want to be believe... Those are the ones that survive,..." Everyone who was alive at the time is dead now. They said Blackbeards headless body swam around the ship after his death. Not exactly possible, right? But in the show he was keelhauled some 3 or 4 times before being beheaded. Some truth to the story is hidden right there.

I was referring to what Jake's Place said in his video about Woodes Rogers being involved in Blackbeard's historical death (he was not). It was not a comment on the show writer's blending of fact and fiction, which is brilliant. Although I did take issue with Blackbeard surrendering and submitting to being keelhauled. That's one instance where I find the historical truth, that he went down fighting, much more compelling.

Flint's reunion with Hamilton was sweet but inconsistent with the historically realistic style of the show. No way would two men in the 1700's kiss in public, even in a work camp. Hug maybe, in a manly way, make lingering eye contact maybe, not kiss. Silver's fictional account would not have included any kind of public homosexual display, either. The only reason I can imagine the show choosing to go this route. other than a serious but accidental lapse in continuity, is to purposely connect with current sensibilities as a way to signal that Silver was spinning a yarn. Either way, I found it bizarre.

Ariston Sparta I dunno man. Treasure Island is set like 20 years later so casting is out. The cast are on new shows anyway. But recast and go again? I dunno if it would work as a series. A movie again maybe... but to be honest, treasure island is kind of a boring book haha. Probs why they made a prequel instead.

Flint died, in reality during Silver and Flint in the trees, the birds flew away "gun shot". Think the Sopranos ending. Silver, was telling his wench a "plantation in the sky" fantasy, even had him walking through the "pearly gates" into their forever heaven. Throughout the whole series it was about Silver becoming more ruthless with his choices and working with the "Darkness" (as guided by Flint himself) and we already know he's great at telling stories to capture minds. You're one of the sailors hooked on his make believe at the end, if you allow the rose tinted glasses to fit.

If i'm not correct wasn't it Ben Gun who was left on the Island not Billy? And sn't it flints ghost that haunts the place? Assuming then he's dead. Has anyone read the book? haha

@JakesPlace 7 жыл бұрын
***BOOK SPOILERS*** In the show Billy was about to shoot Ben Gunn but didn't so Ben Gunn swam off and presumably got stranded on the island. In the books we meet him 20 years later and he claims to have been on the island for a long time. In the show Billy was knocked into the water by Flint, but later we see him wash to shore however all the ships had left so we are left to presume he also got stranded on the island. In the books he rocks up to the bar early on in chapter 1 and dies right away. We assume from alcohol poisoning and just being old and haggard. How did Billy get off the island? No fucking idea mate! This is why in the video I said it's almost like they set him up to be Ben Gunn even though he's clearly not. In the Video I said a fan theory was that Billy was left on the island for a while, found Flints treasure and then made it off the island somehow with a map to it. In the books we meet him with the map so this does make sense as we never see Flint draw the map in the show. In the book they refer to the map as "Flints Map" however so who the fuck knows. In the books we never meet Flint but his legend is that he was a mighty pirate afraid of no one man except upon occasion Long John Silver. He was said to have drunk himself to death in Savannah. So who knows how it all connects. Who knows what is cannon and what is not. No one owns the rights to a 300 year old story so who gives a fuck. Make up your own fan theory and we are all gravy baby cakes! TLDR: In the books (set 20 years after the show) Flint is said to have drunk himself to death in Savannah, Billy has a map to Flints Treasure and drinks himself to death in chapter one, we don't know how he go the map. In the show, Billy is also left on the island and so is Ben Gunn...

I would have loved a season five where they went on to fight the war and it turned into an alternate reality of the American Revolution. An American Revolution fought against England, but made up of pirates, slaves, natives, outcasts, and any one from the thirteen colonies who wished to fight against England. A war led by Flint and Silver instead of George Washington. With Flint still letting go of the character Flint and finding Thomas in the end.

I dont understand why the writers would put Billy on the island and not Ben Gunn. if they are trying to set up the story of Treasure island, then, well, they failed. How does Silver end up in Bristol, cooking in a tavern? so many questions still not answered.

I have finished watching the end of the 4th season I thought that the end would be the beginning of the Treasure Island ... Who has the treasure map? Is not it strange that there is a white man as a slave in a plantation? do you say that everything is a dream?
@JakesPlace
@JakesPlace 6 жыл бұрын
White people as slaves is weird? Historically there have been heaps of white slaves and penal colonies around the world. Australia was originally a penal colony of mostly white "slaves" (prisoners) who were often set to work. In fact in the 1700s its estimated that a quarter of British immigrants to the States were convicts, that's up to 50 000 white prisoners set to work in developing the Americas. Many Americans seem to think that only black people were slaves and that all the white people were free settlers but that simply is historically inaccurate. 1/4 of the United States founding "settlers" were British convicts. So to put it simply, no it absolutely is not weird for there to be white prisoners working on a plantation, not even a bit. Black and white don't mean shit when you are poor man. As far as the "dream" is concerned. Not sure what you mean there? It was hinted that John Silver made up the story of Flint being reunited with his lover but in actual fact Silver just killed him. However I am pretty sure that has since been debunked and what we saw actually happened. No one knows what happened to the Map from the book Treasure Island, maybe Billy ended up with it somehow as he was left standard on the island. Who knows.

Verónica S A dream eh. Interesting theory. I think the writers have debunked all of them though and that what we saw actually took place. So yeah. I don't like that. Its fun and mysterious when you get to draw your own conclusions.

Black Sails isn't the same as real history. So I doubt in this world it was Woods Rogers who ended piracy. And that things ended up the way they did in real life afterwards.
