"Her entire life revolved around her dead mother" Exactly, and she constantly tried to live up to that image of her mother in her head which eventually led to her mental breakdown. When she saw her mother had actually lied about her last mission and deceived everybody she realized that her mother too was fallible and felt the pressures of other peoples' expectations. That moment allowed Ruby to finally realize that she is enough and that she could choose herself rather than this idealized fictional person she had in her head all this time. Ruby is finally ok being herself and nobody else.

So I have a theory. The blacksmith said the door is always open and so we have a way to stop the immortal Salem. Get her into the ever after and get her to ascend since ascension isn’t death her being immortal wouldn’t make her immune to ascension. The tree said the cat was suffering from a broken heart which is EXACTLY what Salem is suffering from so if the tree could heal her heart she could change and learn the importance of life and death finally breaking her immortality curse. I would LOVE to hear your guys thoughts on this theory.

If Salem can leave Remanent. "For so long as This World turns, You will walk IT'S face...". This may be an overly strict interpretation of the curse, but I think Salem is trapped on Remanent. This wouldn't preclude them using the Staff of Creation to make a new tree, however.

Ithink the theory with sending Salem to ever after and let her ascend, it maybe the solution they come to in the finals of this searies ^^ it would be a fitting one ^^

Second favorite theory. Especially if the world is united, as the Brothers said for their Judgement. First is that Salem will be dealt with by the Brother’s upon/after their return, and Ruby has to prove that humans are worth sparing by their unity. Which includes a final confrontation with Cinder, where Ruby and the rest have to forgive her.

This opens up to the chance for Ruby to parley with the gods and convince them to spare Remnant even if humanity is not up to their standards. As the Blacksmith stated, true balance is attained through love and patience to see things through to the end. Ruby and the others will convince the brothers to have more love for their creations and watch over them and see what they can become, the potential they have.

Interesting thing about the brothers is the tree is the benevolent god of balance they want to be but so far they have left two worlds with remnants of themselves to eternally cycle life and death with the cat and the jabberwalker in the ever after and Ozpin and Salem in Remnant. Ironically it shows the brother of light destroying what the brother of dark created as its said they argued over balance similar to when the DB brought Ozma back. Ironically this might hint that the DB was actually the benevolent one that initially loved all their creations while the light one had such a stick up the ass ideal about balance that he imposed a bunch of made up rules that forced their roles, more on dark than light. Ironically his creations grew to fear him because of what he was allowed to make to "balance" light, like the Grimm, and so nobody would ever actually come visit him and he became jaded as the light brother seemed to recieve almost endless praise and worship. Ironic again the tipping point that made the Dark Brother finally end all of creation with his own hand was out of anger when Salem turned the people against both brothers and his creations attacked him with the gift of magic he gave. That also explains why the light brother didnt even bother stopping him. He did it himself to so many creations he deemed imbalanced that he saw the outcome as a harsh punishment for what Salem and humanity did rather than unjust while for the Dark it was like an insect stinging a person so they smoke out the entire nest in retaliation. One was initially more caring and lenient but the other was so cold and absorbed in the ideal of balance that it inevitably caused a cycle of two children with god powers constantly breaking shit and moving on. What makes the tree the actual balance both would wish to achieve? It doesnt judge or play favorites. It calls those to it that are ready to accept repair no matter who they are or what theyve done and treats them all equally like a guiding motherly figure helping along children that lost their way and even helping suggest new paths but never leaving the choice to anyone but themselves. Even the tree itself ultimately does not interfere, only encourage the choice be that of whoever comes back. The tree even left the door open not only for them to return but also any and all of their creations, even if the way into the everafter was likely never meant for humans to access and the way some humans did enter was by the rarest but openly accepted happenstance and are as free as the gods were to leave to their original world if they so choose. In a way, the tree itself and its words that the joy of creation is not knowing and that theres beauty in every product good and bad is a representation of Monty himself. The man that didnt care so much about whether the quality of something was good or bad but just that it was good to create something and enjoy it in general. Dude loved animating more than anything at the end of the day and trusted his friends Miles and Kerry with the meat of this story in a world he helped create a base skeletal structure of and built small things within it among his peers. This perspective of what the tree represents beyond the show was actually a tear jerker for me when i first thought about it.

The idea of the tree being like an idealised version of Monty brings a tear to my eye. I remember watching him on podcasts etc. People talking about him pulling 17 hour shifts regularly because he would sit and help people during work but he also wanted his creations to be as good as they could be. Or like when he talked about how he taught himself to animate while working a menial job- he used to come home after a long day and animate till the early morning, get a few hours sleep and repeat. I'm not someone who says any RWBY problems came about because monty was gone- but monty is one of the most inspiring people of our generation. A genuine shame that we lost him.

This was from a post I had on crunchy back during ep 7 but this feels like the time to drop it here. The whole series has focused on learning to let go and forgive. It's why Oz never wins, why Salem hates eternally, why everyone breaks down. The team has never had time to process (until now) on how to handle loss and forgive their enemies. It's the major driving force woven into the series from the get go. This is just a play on possible story path they could never play out in their 'real world'. The story book/fairy tale core of their existence is how they all come and go. It's a justification as to how and why they're all here. It's meta but, explains all of their story book origins as characters and being reborn/ascending into their current forms. Think of the tree as Monty's imagination, rewriting classic stories into this form, the show that is RWBY.

Don't forget Raven confirmed in an earlier season that Summer was convincing her to help fight Salem. Having a grave doesn't mean anyone is in it Pretty sure it's empty either way Raven survived It's possible that Raven put Summer into hiding, but likely died and Raven escaped.

Because Ruby can't move and they are trying to protect her from the Cat. While the Cat can't follow them, the Cat isn't actually after them and only fighting them because they are in the way. 18:50 "How does a deer build a house? No thumbs." You clearly haven't seen My Little Pony. Seriously though, it's literally a magic deer. There is a chance of Neo coming back. The door is right there. This volume blew me away for such a short volume. The creativity and details of this world were OUTSTANDING. The flexibility you have with true magic. I don’t even think we are done with the Ever After. Balance seems to be so important and the roles they play. The relic of choice I’m betting is in the care of the blacksmith. And it’ll be the final relic seen. I’m betting it’ll be used as the decision of do they ACTUALLY need the gods to return at all. Or do they just live without them. Because that story the blacksmith said appeared to be of such importance for that. (And it appears the Blacksmith is more the being that cares for the Ever After once the brothers left from my perspective. If they truly were the earliest blossoms, than what is the blacksmith other than what I consider to be a MORE complex creature than they are.) I was hoping that the cat could ascend, but the statue for the cat appears to be rusted over and a different color compared to the others. I was actually curious if Neo could recreate the Jabberwalker’s ascension blocking force. I was actually hoping she couldn’t to show how one of a kind the Jabberwalker is. (Which appears to be the 1st creature of Grimm.) I will also say once again I don’t think Neo deserves true redemption. Being a neutral character I’m fine with. But not pure hero. Even after everything she went through, she was TORTURING Ruby 2 episodes ago, and has done a LOT of harm across the others. I don’t think she can truly earn it. And I don’t think I need to say this, but bringing back the song from the ORIGINAL Ruby trailer to have Ruby kick ALL the butt. And then their best team up yet. Best part of the volume. I love stories of acceptance. And one of the most powerful lessons you can learn as a kid OR adult is the lesson of “There’s no one I’d rather be than me.” I don’t care how many times it’s done. That is a truly timeless lesson. And one I’ll never bore of. RWBY has its flaws. But it is a proper fairy tale and one of the best if you ask me. And I LOVE my fairy tales. (Growing up with a few German equivalents REALLY makes you appreciate the wholesome ones with lessons that are hit home instead of inducing nightmares.)

Pick apart RWBY so I can analyze for you guys once Volume 10 rolls around. (Not decided since it takes a LOT of dedication when I truly decide to analyze a series at its threads. Kyle can confirm.) I don’t know how RWBY is so underrated because I see a LOT of hate for it. The real question is when did they arrive? In the Ever After, it could appear as if they've been there for days when it could be years or decades later since the fall of Atlas. Jaune was in the Ever After for decades while RWBY was in there for days so the mater of time difference perspective is very arguable for them. They could be returned at any point in time in which they're needed in Vacuo. Salem could've been dormant and rebuilding her armies for years while the forces of Vacuo waited and their return could mark the return of Salem as well.

Personal Theory about the Two Brothers: As balanced against one another as they are, they are still missing something. Both Brothers have demonstrated the ability to Create and Destroy, each one prefers one over the other. BUT, they can ONLY Create or Destroy, they can not CHANGE something. That is now the Tree's purpose. As evidence of this, I'll point to Salem and her followers' confrontation with the Brothers at the Pool of Life. When it became clear the Salem could, and would lead humans away from the ways and beliefs that they had previously held to, which I can only assume were acceptable to the Brothers, rather than strip magic from humans or some other reduction or inhibition, they destroy them. All of them.

Summer and Raven went after Salem, not knowing she was immortal. After Salem kept coming back to life (similar to how she did when Hazel fought her) Salem captured Summer Rose and Raven bailed (possibly at Summer's demand). Raven thought that Salem had killed Summer but it seems more likely now that she was turned into a Hound or similar human/grimm hybrid. Based on what has been said in the show, I think this seems to be the most likely sequence of events.

There was theory someone commented on Summer Rose’s Wiki page that I think lines up pretty well with the events of her last mission we saw in this episode. Credit for theory goes to Blue.Cheese2 Raven and Summer were partners within team STRQ. After Oz entrusted them with the secret of Salem, the Grimmified witch who commands the creatures of darkness, it leaves the team in disarray. Summer, knowing what her Silver Eyes can do, decides to try and defeat Salem herself without telling anyone "hence it being a "Summer Secret". Raven catches her right before she leaves and tries to get her to not go and possibly die. Summer gives her the optimistic speech (Raven recognizes this tone in Ruby in Volume 5) and convinces her to tag along. They make it to Salem's lair and fight her. The duo manages to actually kill Salem. Temporarily. After seeing the witch resurrect herself, Raven goes into shock. Now in complete fear, she summons a portal to escape. She begs Summer to come with her, but the huntress stands her ground. Raven abandons her. Summer fights Salem more, using her Silver Eyes as a final resort. The attack causes cracks to appear on her skin, but still isn't enough to kill her. Salem eventually apprehended Summer, ready to kill. Summer tells her that she will be stopped, even if she can't be killed, and Salem throws her into the pool of darkness. She later realizes that Summer somehow survived the pool, and starts to experiment on Grimmifying her, eventually leading to Salem experimenting on other Silver Eyed Warriors. This headcanon explains Salem's origins for experiments on Silver Eyed Warriors, Summer's secret mission, Raven's fear of Salem and how she KNOWS she can't be beaten, and how Salem can be injured.

We don't know that Raven is aware that Salem can self-resurrect and it's safer to assume she doesn't since that would have been one hell of a trump card in her arguments with Qrow and both Yang and Weiss when she's tried to convince them not to trust Ozpin. It's probably more likely that Raven witnessed just how much magical power she has, seeing as she never gave up anything to the maidens and still has all of her might, and realized Ozpin didn't tell them just how much of a force of nature she is, which would both break her trust and also be a pretty terrifying realization to come to in the context of the world they live in. Summer being cast into the pool when defeated by Salem is something that is definitely a possibility, but I'd wager that Summer fought Salem alone with the plan to use her eyes to nuke the leader of the Grimm while Raven and Qrow intended to fight to hold back her followers. When Ozpin gave the twins the ability to turn into birds so they could act as his scouts and spies against Salem, that probably gave them the idea to find her and get close without being spotted by Salem or the Grimm, using Raven's portal ability to effectively slip behind enemy lines to try and cut the head off the snake. Even without witnessing one of her self-resurrections, being engaged in a battle anywhere near her would show just how wildly powerful she is and experiencing that display along with the death of Summer could have easily had opposite effects on the twins - Raven feeling demoralized and that the war was impossible to ever win, but Qrow feeling remorseful and channeling that into resolve.

So a Big thing In the Summer Flashback for me is that they went through one of Ravens Portals and there is only one other person we know that the portal could of been to, as Yang and Tai are here and this is before Vernal was ever with Raven so It had to go to Qrow. This tells me that essentially only Tai was left out of the loop out of team STRQ, and I am guessing it is because of Ruby and Yang, Summer prolly made the call because she didn't want to leave them without a Parent if the mission failed.

It's impressive that Neopolitan, played three roles of Alice in Wonderlands series, The Jabberwock (her new powers), The Mad Hatter (her role against Ruby), and finally The Cheshire Cat (when possessed by the Curious Cat). Interesting enough her theme revolves around three her ice cream name Neopolitan; her color theme; her real Given name Trvia Vanille ("Trivia" means "where the three roads meet", it's also the name of the Roman Goddess of sorcery, witchcraft and crossroads, with her Grecian counterpart being named Hecate. RWBY Wikia) I always thought she was based on Mary Poppins, with the ability to use her semblance called Overactive Imagination to bring illusions to "life", and her umbrella, minus the talking part, though her Blaz Blue Cross Tag Battle voice actor was none other than the singer of RWBY's songs as well as Neopolitan's battle theme One Thing.

Just got around to finding and watching these. The Blacksmith is heavily implied to be Alex's ascended self. Alex stayed behind to fix what she had broken and the Blacksmith has strips of blue cloth throughout her design. It's made slightly more apparent by the fact that she mentions waiting a long time for Jaune and presents him with Alex's (her) dagger and fixes the wrong she helped create.

Im guessing it'll be kinda similar to vol 7, when they revealed penny was alive. Only this time its everyone else in shock when team rwby shows up. And then i think we'll get some flashbacks on how everyone else got to where they are now or they'll just talk about it briefly. Cuz i cant imagine them holding off on team rwby and jaune reuniting with their friends for a few episodes when we'll get the new op to give a peak at everything on that first episode at the end of it.

The ending of a volume while hype as hell always brings the sadness of having to wait for what comes next. Really looking forward to Red like Roses part 3. I believe that summer is still alive and we will get the full story of what happened when she stepped through the portal when Salem introduces her as a hound. I also believe that now Ruby maybe able to handle that better than she would have before volume 9.

Essentially to clarify the tree is capital G god, like the root of creation, the tree of life, the world tree, the everafter being the garden of eden etc. Theres a ton of religious symbolism once you realize the tree created the gods and thus the universe remnant inhabits by extension. The adam and eve thing isnt that far off, they did get curious and end up leaving the "garden" so theres definitely some parallels there

If you're wondering why there is no after credits scene. Part of the reason is that Volume 10 hasn't been greenlit so there is no guarantee there will be a Volume 10 at the moment. The hope is if Volume 9 and the Cross Over movie does well then it will as Warnerbros owns RWBY basically now. So it's all about showing Warnerbros that people want it and that it will remain a successful IP for them. This is the result sadly of things not being good at Rooster teeth that lead to the acquisition of RWBY's IP by Warnerbros. However I heard that things are a bit better now for CRWBY as the management before under Rooster Teeth before was abssymal and the work place environment wasn't the best as they had some toxic members there as well. So I suggest even if you're not big DC Fans or like the concept of the Cross Over (though it's non-canon to RWBY over all) to at least support it to help Greenlight Volume 10 besides supporting Volume 9. Besides I watched it and it was actually a pretty good movie and I actually want to see part two of the crossover because I'm curious about the plot that's been set up for it and it was just a fun watch.

Yeah no Summer is definitely dead. Salem speaks about her a few times and it definitely sounds like she isn't around. But whatever happened to her? It was the reason Raven ran from the war. Why she became the Raven she is now. Whatever happened to Summer... It BROKE her.

You may have missed it, but the Tree Goddess said they would arrive "when they were most needed".....by the look of it, with all the ships from all the major kingdoms in the skies over Shade Academy, it has been a time skip of at least a month....because that would be a massive logistical undertaking....Ruby's message was received and acted upon; not in time to save Atlas, but to bolster Shade's defenses in Vacuo. We can only speculate what Winter, Oscar, Emerald, Ren & Nora have been up to in the meantime....to them RWBY+J are "missing, presumed dead"

The rose emblem represents a promise between mother and daughter to meet again like Ruby said, decent chance that she will find her mother or a remnant of her spirit doing something very important. Probably gonna be a moment of conflict between the 2 but after finding herself I'm sure Ruby will be decently quick to forgive and take up whatever mantle Summer left behind for her. Oh no, I hadn't considered Summer still being alive and being in Vacuo. I'd assumed she died to Salem or something similar. But the idea that she left to vacuo goes pretty hard, particularly that right now we dont know who the vacuo maiden is... and there are currently 2 maidens with connections to Yang and Weiss which is a pattern. And I assume given the implications by the end of the series the main girls will become maidens which is tragic and very RWBY

Last time it lasted for 100-ish days, cost 2 Billion Dollars and decimated shows (RIP Heroes) which, it sucks they had to go on strike but I fully support them, they were getting absolutely screwed. So yeah, almost all productions are shut down till it's resolved.

I was honestly a little put off of the series at the end of Volume 8 because the second death of Penny just felt like a waste. They could have done so much exploration with her character! But, I must admit, Volume 9 has rekindled my interest. Let's hope that this is the turning point of the story from the constant loss to all the wins. Like how Cecil on Mt. Ordeals was in Final Fantasy IV (which I know is a reference you, duck, will not get).
