I only play YGO again recently (Legacy of the Duelist game) and in disbelief when I found out that Trunade and Premature Burial are banned but the "stronger counterparts" are legal (Feather Duster and Monster Reborn). This series helped me understand the history of YGO that I miss in meta perspective.

Basically they failed because of 2 things: 1) most of them didn't have effects at all and even worse stats. 2) basically. They're just synchro summons with extra steps. Their requirements can be really insane and not viable as the materials are not that easy to search. That and the point 1. They are not that viable

Needing a specific spell and specific monster in hand, with materials on the board or in the hand should also be emphasized. Indeed, most ritual monsters were simply not worth the cost of summoning. Crap to no effect, high levels with low stats, huge minus. But the real killer was always that inconsistency. Part of what broke Nekroz was it was hyper consistent, able to go neutral to find whatever they needed. Throw in the overturned ritual spell that let you get around using actual recorces and all the monsters having actually valid effects, and you got a recipe for disaster.

@@Linkfan001 they already started being consistent from Gishki, Nekroz is just more consistent and have much better effects. Also Demise King of Armageddon did see some plays before Gishki despite all the inconsistencies, so it's not like Rituals are completely out for 15 years, more like the broken one did not exists until 2011. Granted ritual cards before 2006 were just absolutely horrible, but Demise got his chance to shine when Advanced ritual art was printed.

Lunalight Tiger doesn't need a hard once per turn. Just make it that either Monsters summoned by it's effect can only be used as Material for a (Lunalight)-Fusion Monster or that you can only special summon lunalight monsters after you used it. Maybe a lock to only being able to summon fusions for the rest of the turn would be enough. The reason Tiger was banned was because of all the rank 4 decks that abused it's swarming potential, it is totally fine in pure Lunalight decks.

Yeah giving tiger a hard once per turn would end her intended sinergy with Marteen. Just lock its summons to only be usable as material for lunalight , or even better, beast warrior monsters.

@@CardamomYGO That's exactly why i would give it other restrictions. But i'm not a fans of the idea of locking you into Beast-Warriors that's not a harsh enough restriction as it has a too high potential to be abused. Locking you into fusions would be the least i would do as it also fits the deck.

Notable detail you missed about Fiber Jar: It does not shuffle Banished cards back into the deck, so if your opponent had to Banish for costs (I.E. Levianeer) they're still down in resources.

Well back when Fiber Jar was released, banished cards were "removed from play", and that had much more gravity than it does now. Banished cards come back all the time with modern effects, not so in Fiber Jar's days

Lunalight Tiger is at 3 in the OCG. Never believe when a card is banned in TCG, OCG will follow suit. OCG is a lot harsher on combo decks with all the distruption they have despite having Mystic Mine and recently Fusion Destiny banned.

I remember coming back to yu gi oh after years and being so confused as to why tiger is banned as Lunalight is my 2nd favorite deck of all time.

Lunalight is such a cool deck. Even in Duel Links! It may lack some of the fancier fusions, but Emerald Bird and Yellow Marten give them a great advantage engine, Crimson Fox sets up for OTKs with Cat Dancer, White Rabbit recycles for staying power, and having both Cat & Sabre Dancer as fusion targets means you get to pick between Battle and Targeting protection. If that weren't enough, they're one of the most accessible viable decks, with 1-2x Marten and 3x Tenki being the only required SR cards, and no URs needed. Sphere Kuribohs are nice, but the F2P available Arcana Force XIV - Temperance is also totally viable, leaving the monster in attack position for potential Crimson Fox OTK follow ups and allowing you to splash in some chaos plays (which may be crazy with the newly released BLS, even though the deck can't play Levianeer anymore).

It's cause Lunalight actually became meta for a little bit (I think it was because of Kaleido Chick?) iirc in 2019 Lunalight Orcust was one of the best versions of Orcust and then after The Great Purge of January 2020, pure Lunalight walked out unscathed and became Tier 1 until they finally banned Tiger the following April

There's a new Jar card announced recently with Cyber Jar in it artwork. The name is Flip Jar. To be exact, the artwork is a half Cyber Jar and half the normal monster Ancient Jar. The effect instead of destroys all monster, it has "flip other monster face-down" with bonus giant Trunade-ing all spell & trap.

The gods of life (Sophia and the demon thing) are busted as hell too, but they are so restrictive that you can't just use them. Yet they can wipe the entire field, period with nothing else. What Sophia and the demon do is that they spin everything, but only they remain. Nothing can be activated in response either, but they're almost impossible to use: one of them requires a full board to use (ten cards) and the other having a ritual, synchro, fusion and Xyz monster on the field to activate.

Literally every card in this video doesn’t need to be banned anymore. Pendulum still has to deal with the fact that Konami seems to hate the mechanic because all of their new support has been absolute trash. If Electrumite stays banned, every single pendulum hit could peel off the list and be fine. Even crazy strong cards like Kiran are hampered by being pendulum cards. Pendulum is hardly even a rogue strategy and getting a bunch of stuff taken off the list wouldn’t suddenly bring them back to MR3 status. Djinn doesn’t need to be banned either at this current moment in time since Drytron can’t even use the thing because of how their ritual spells lock their ritual materials. Nekroz is at full power now minus the Djinn lock and does absolutely nothing. Keeping Djinn banned helps future-proof, but it’s not a necessary hit now. The Jars are all terrible because they’re flip monsters. You can run other cards to facilitate turn 1 flips, but then you’re relying on 2-3 card combos to get them to go off the way you want which is a sure fire way to brick. Empty Jar isn’t even a particularly strong FTK nowadays with the abundance of hand traps that are able to completely stop it. And hand traps just so happen to be pretty easy to come across when your opponent is trying to deck you out by overdrawing.

Actually having Fiber Jar destroyed by battle prevents it from getting reset into the deck if I remember correctly. Fiber Jar should technically get destroyed after its effect resolves, meaning it will just go to the GY and not reset itself (As by the time it reaches the GY the effect would be already resolved)

Really nice video as always my friend but one little comment on monkeyboard: As someone who plays a lot of current format pendulum, i can tell you that Monkeyboard is way weaker than you think. The card looks crazy on paper, but the only good use it has in modern pendulum builds would be searching Joker. This is a really strong interaction don‘t get me wrong, but the problem monkeyboard creates is that it locks your scale with a 4 Scale you don‘t want there. There is not a single good performapal highscale that would be worth searching instead of Joker and the pendulum magician engine as a whole is just WAY better. The effort to get rid of Monkeyboard after you searched, to unlock your scale for other plays, neutralizes the advantage you generate by searching with it. So honestly: The card could go to three tomorrow and it wouldn‘t change a lot. But that‘s just my opinion.

I was thinking the exact same before and after this video, but then remembered you could also get performapal celestial magician as a high scale. But that would still be meh since you don't have two magicians in your pend zones for stuff like tuning magician. So ideally you can pop it somehow, like with pend sorc, which then also only searches Joker or so. And ig that gets you to oafdragon etc....So I might still see it as a welcome addition to magicians, but it's not busted or anything in modern pendulum engines, even if it allows fairly generic plays...and pure Performapals are nowhere to be seen anyways.

Fiber Jar wouldn't exactly reset the game if there is an Xyz monster on the field because of the way Xyz Materials work. The materials would go to grave, while the monster would go back to the extra deck.

Since it only adds Performapal monsters, it's limited to a specific archetype that isn't very good to begin with, also, the monster effect also only applies to a Performapal/Odd Eyes monsters, which is also restrictive to one specific archetype. If it was any Pendulum monsters, yeah i would see why it's banned. But currently i don't know why it is.

I actually think that Cyber Jar could be put to 1 with no problems with it as is. It's effect has a conditional "then", so if there's a monster that can't be destroyed by or unaffected by card effects, then there's no draw and it just blows up the destroyable monsters. There's also a plethora of hand-traps that could stop it and plenty of removal that the only viable deck it could go in is Empty Jar, which never sees success.

The main combo for Djinn was having Manju and basically....anything in your hand. Manju get you the Kaleido+Unicore combo. If you needed Kaleido you search Claus to send to grave and search that way. Herald search Cycle. Make Lavalval Chain (another banned card) with Manju and Unicore. Chain send Djinn. Use Cycle to bring back Claus using Djinn from grave as material. Congrats you Djinn lock with a bunch of cards still in your hand because the deck doesn't know how to go minus.

Big creative combos can indeed be cool - but with the number of FTKs, the tediously long time single turns can take, and the prevalence of negation definitely all make me appreciate the simplicity and straight-forwardness of playing older YGO. I mostly prefer the game as a single player experience these days. ...Not that there hasn't been anything for me to appreciate in the modern card game - I remember how much Synchro Monsters felt like they revolutionised the game and made the Extra Deck feel more worthwhile, for example. (Still salty after all these years about Link Monsters not being able to switch to Defence Position though.)

For Lunalight Tiger, I'd much prefer the restriction be that it tribal locks you into the archetype for the turn if you use it's effect, this way the archetype can do the neat things it wants to do without needing the card being used outside of its own deck as a combo piece/engine component.

Another reason Fiber Jar is so strong is that with all the special summoning mechanics in the game since it's release it's non-targeting non-destroying mass removal would give a player that triggered their own jar on their turn 5 cards in hand and no opposition outside of hand traps to stop them from attacking their opponent directly for 8000+ damage. A deck that could pull that off even semi-consistently would be incredibly toxic.

Playing Fiber Jar with win conditions is easy mode. Hard mode is winning with Soul Release. All you do is banish cards from your opponent's deck, reset, banish more, rinse and repeat. Your opponent will either concede or deck out.

If your cyber jar or fiber jar flips with Qliphort your opponent is up a creak and you don't have any worry at all. but hand traps are a thing too.

Fiber jar in legacy of the duelist story deck is probably the only viable use for it other than trolling: in that specific duel, you can use it to remove the seal of orichalcos, which then basically resets the duel without it because of its once per duel clause. As far as I know, most if not all other once per duel effects are immediate activation and not an effect that stays on the field indefinitely

Lunalight Tiger, while insane with its archetype, was never truly utilized until TOSS format. In-archetype, all it ever did was enable extension into bosses that could OTK. In TOSS format, it was abused the most, by Orcust. Remember the "2 monsters on the field is full Orcust combo"? Lunalight Tiger facilitated that the easiest among the splashable engines in Orcust. Hence why it was banned alongside Harp Horror.

Another thing that makes Monkeyboard so broken, it's that thanks to the wording on it, the effect doesn't resolve as soon as you activate the card, it only has to be on the same MP it was activated

If I'm understanding what you are saying correctly, there was not an archetype but an attempt was made with rock monsters and a field spell that doubles damage to monsters ramming into them.

djinn only requires the ritual summoned monster to be face up on the field to lock out the opponent due to how it's worded. i tested creature swap against it on ygo pro many years ago and i was still the one locked out of special summoning :(

If you want an idea of the natsy ness of Fiber Jar, you could also use it with an Opponent Banish deck, as they will not get those cards back.

fiber jar is like a weaker shahrazad, an mtg banned card that makes you play a sub game so that shows how annoying that can be, specially in tournaments

They could honestly put both Jar monsters to 1 for a format to test it and they mostly like wouldn’t impact the current meta game. Flip effect monsters are just too slow nowadays and aren’t that hard to prevent their effects.

Fiber jar cant Return with the New time rules. one flip to reset the duel is massive for decks aiming ot win outside of battle. the rst of the jar have the problem of restricting flip support, they are all just one good flip support away from being abusive.

One other problem with Fiber Jar is that it spins itself back, So unlike other stall cards limiting it doesn't solve the problem at all. If it reset everything except itself, That would still probably be too powerful But at least it'd have a balancing cost. (It'd effectively be a soft once per duel)

honestly tiger can come back to 3 probably. its really strong but compared to what other decks do its not really that insane that 2 cards end on 4 level 4 special summons. the biggest problem with lunalight was that it was the best deck to do azathot without handtraps being able to stop it and/or orcust stuff for virtually free but now its just a rank 4 engine that would probably be merged in phantom knights.

Lets just give us back 1 tiger and if its toxic take it away. but dt we keep pushing the idea back becuase ItS nOt A hArD oNcE pEr TuRn then the deck will never get its card back anytime and remeber. yugioh isnt the same from 2 years ago so i believe it can come back but slowly back in the format or game at least.

Tiger doesn't need to be opt It just needs to lock you out of either special summoning anything that's not a Lunalight the turn you use either effect, or limit the only special summoning from the extra deck to Fusion

As someone who, still, plays Lunalight, what you are proposing is a way worst condition tan the opt, lists would probably play 1 at most if it had any of those locks just because having good rank 4 (like Abyss Dweller or similars) alongside your Leo or Saber is that valuable

Fiber jar effect are not really banned in magic unless you mean something like Shahrazad but that card is nonsense and looping it can cause nightmares but it way worse then Fiber Jar

Fiber jar doesn't seem to affect banished monsters, so if a monster like Stardust dragon used its effect and temporarily banished itself right before fiber jar was flipped, it would just came back onto the field without any issues.

Best memory of Fiber Jar was during the 2003 World Championships, with the commentators getting increasingly fed up everytime Fiber Jar was activated. And it was activated a lot.

One thing to point out about Fiber Jar is that doesn't return banished cards. It was incredibly rare even at the time, but I remember some weird decks trying to mill the opponent by slowly banishing cards and exploiting Fiber Jar as much as possible.

Flip monsters weren't a failed mechanic, as they weren't dead on arrival. It's more that they're outdated now compared to the speed of the game.

As Lunalight player i wish they unbanned Tiger. Like no prob if they give hard once per turn effect or restrictions to Lunalight because that what she use to in the archetype. She is one of essential piece of Lunalight strategy right after Kaleido Chick

Honestly the whole "Is this a soft once per turn or a hard once per turn?" should really go and make all cards that say "can only use this effect of X once per turn" a Hard Once Per turn, so doesnt matter how many copies or replays of a card you use, you can only use its effect once a turn, so like Pot of duality, you want to use that effect again, youll have to wait til next turn. theres things i do think should change to help make the game more easier to udnerstand, because i often dont know if what i can or cant do is a soft or hard once per turn. like wise i think it would be a worthwhile change to make it where unless stated otherwise, a card has to remain on the field in order for its effect to resolve, IE a Opponant activates Dark Hole, I play MST, target and Destroy Dark Hole, Dark Hole's effect can no logner resolve and as a result my monsters are stafe. there been so many times on link evolution for example where i use a card effect to destroy darkhole or MST or likewise thinking that will prevent it, only to lost my cards and then end up wastign a card or effect. i think that Destruction should come with built in negation effects unless the destroyed card says otherwise/activates on destruction.

Fiber Jar’s errata should just be a Once Per Duel effect, and that’s it. Oh, and instead of it getting shuffled back into the deck, it’s banished instead, while everything else is shuffled into the deck. One of those 2 should be put in as it’s errata and boom, it’s good to come off, or maybe even both if you really want to hit it.

To fix Djinn, all of the ritual support Djinns really, is to use modern design and change it's effect such that it *gives* a ritual monster that uses it as material the effect, so that something like Infinite Impermanence can then negate the effect after the fact.

If you could activate Fiber Jar while your opponent is under the effect of Droll & Lock Bird, that'd basically be a win right there. Though I don't know if that could be done consistently in any way

But the thing is with Djinn Releaser: You can't really use it to summon Ultimateness. That would also require a lvl 7 monster in addition or another lvl 3 for Perfection. The only meta deck that is constantly able to abuse these cards are Drytron only, and they can't use djinn for their ritual spell at all, because it is locked to machine type and its atk based than lvl. So we would have a small engine probably with Clausolas and Cylce, but that would be too much bricks for the deck i think that are situational.

Had so much fun using Djinn Releaser and Relinquished. Stopping SS. Opp can only summon once. Relinquished has protection from that battle. Can then suck up the opps monster. Ez to get the Relinquished cards and ez to get the djinn to the grave.

So soft once per turn. Gishki Zielgigas would be the best unless something else pops up, because you can just summon one, draw, if the draw is a gishki card you spin something, then use a ritual card to bring another Zielgigas and do it again.

Top 10 soft opt might be a bit too vague unless you're specifically talking about cards with the pre psct text which could be interesting but a pain to do
