Honestly with Gofu the vague shadow I say if they changed it’s restriction with the tokens to be “can only be used for the summon of a “Blackwing” monster” then they would only be good in decks that can take advantage of blackwings in some way

That being said, when you release some new card type that breaks potentially dozens of older cards it becomes way more of a problem. Link monsters are the most infamous. All these tokens have restrictions on them, but the restrictions don't apply to new card type and it just ruins them. It would help if they streamlined the wording on the cards though to do what they intend like if the tokens said "can only be used to summon xyz/synchro/link/fusion monsters from the extra deck" instead of specifying a bunch of types it can't summon then it's like oh we made a new card type like link and the tokens can be used for that because link isn't listed on the card.

For anyone wondering, Victory Dragon is probably the single card that will never under no circumstance whatsoever be unbanned. It was made before any of the other match winners which all had "This card cannot be used in a duel" text, and its banned status can be taken as a replcement of that text. If Victory Dragon somehow ever comes out of the list, it's to fit that text in the card and never again be considered for play, effectively going from banned ("unnoficially illegal") to illegal.

Block Dragon's search effect is hilariously busted in hindsight. I wish I could say that BD was the last time they would "over-support" a weak type, but Swordsoul kind of over-supports the Wyrm type and who knows what nonsense they'll do to Pyro whenever they get around to it.

YGO needs to start doing what Pokemon TCG started doing and making a blanket term for restrictions to also cover future mechanics. Basically an issue the PTCG had was whenever they made a new mechanic it could be used with older cards never intended for them even when said mechanic is similar to an old one when the older cards were made. So they made cards that were “do this powerful effect but not for EX Pokemon” but then later made GX and then even later V Pokemon which are both mostly the same thing but because they technically aren’t EX Pokemon, said powerful effects could apply to them. However, since last year they started making cards that are “do this powerful effect but not for rule box Pokemon” which is a blanket term for any Pokemon that requires a special rule to be printed on the card which would apply to any using special mechanics. Very good future proofing. In the end, I’m saying they need to slap on “cannot be used for extra deck summons” on stuff or something here.

I think a needed errata for victory dragon is 'You can reveal this card from your hand or deck, if your opponent surrenders they lose the match. While this card is on the field, if your opponent surrenders they lose the match. ' This will make it have its intended effect and add some interesting possibilities with delaying the reveal to not let the opponent know what you're up to. Or kill it then immediately surrender to lose the duel but not the match. The card might still be unusable, maybe it is strong, IDK, but at least there will be no disputes about it and there is the possibility for it to be useful.

Stopping your opponent form surrendering entirely is very unhealthy for the metagame, and makes timer stalling a much more viable strategy, since your opponent would not be able to try and win back time in game 2 after side boarding.

Oddly enough in my entire time in platinum Master Duel Ive only seen adamancipators once or twice and have never seen gem-knight. As broken as block dragon is, its nowhere near as powerful as full power drytron and full power tri-brigade.

Adas are everywhere now and are clearly a Top 4 deck along with Tri-Zoo, VW, and Drytron. And if they go first, Tri-Brigade and Drytron just lose. So does VW because they also have access to the Buster Lock in the game because Union Carrier is legal for no reason.

There aren't too many effects that just send instead of destroy anyways. the problem is when your opponent sees that you have 3 dragons on field and u haven't used your normal summon they will immediately surrender also if you search the card then it would be obv when to surrender

On Gofu: it's not just good in Blackwing decks or Link decks. I ran it in a Metalfoes deck where I'd summon Gofu, use one of the tokens to Fusion Summon the Lvl 5 Metalfoes Fusion Monster, tribute both to summon Ultima Tzolkin, blow up the other token using a Metalfoes Pendulum Effect to set a spell or trap, and thus summon a free Synchro dragon to the field. No Link or even Pendulum Summons required. Moreover, if I had enough cards left, I could Pendulum Summon a Metalfoes monster and use it as a Tuner with the dragon to summon Nirvana High Paladin. All of that, in 1 turn.

In Master Duel, I surrender immediately after seeing Drytron or Adamancipator; these decks are so broken as many of there key cards like Union Carrier/Block Dragon are banned/limited. There is no way my decks (PLAT player) can beat a deck with multiple banned/limited cards.

A friend of mine (not me, I like Yu Gi Oh the way it...was...) would see this video and say "it's almost like they should have had some kind of mana system to prevent powerful cards from being played too early/easily". That said, at some point there was a big shift in the game, and decks using equip cards and similar long term plans that could have worked got vaporised in the wake of "theme decks that basically win first turn so long as every card in your deck has *the name of the theme* in it's name. (Elemental hero/XYZ/ B.E.S./ etc etc etc) "Discard 3 cards with x in it's name to search for and special summon a monster with x in it's name that lets you fuse it with another monster from your whatever pile with X in it's name to super special summon the hyper dragon robot of devouring that totally just eats all your face down cards before blasting the opponent's life points directly for 23000 damage" If it didn't have a theme devoted to it, it wasn't worth macking a deck for. It's been a while and maybe they shifted away from that, but I miss when you could at least KIND of make more broad, unspecific combinations work.

Idea for victory dragon. Split its power between the dragon and a trap card. You need both to activate the effect but with the detail that victory dragon can't deliver a fatal blow without the trap card. So if they attack and it would be fatal you don't know whether you should surrender. Could lead to a fun win through a fake out surrender.

You can either use specific Token cards that say they are a token, or anything that can't be confused for an actual Yu-Gi-Oh card and can show attack and defense position, like cards from other card games, empty sleeves, a piece of paper...

Just make block dragon's special summon a hard once per turn and the cards that protect, search and require for special summon to be BOTH earth and rock, instead of just earth or rock. For victory dragon (and all other match winners) have a game ruling where you're not allowed to surrender during the opponent's turn. In an unconventional way, instead of master plan, change magicians' souls to instead of sending any level 6 or higher spellcaster monster, to sent a level 6 or higher "dark magician" monster. Gofu could instead have the restriction that, while the tokens could be used as a synchro material, will be only for blackwing synchro monster, also to not be tributed and during the turn you special summon gofu you can only special from the extra deck blackwing synchro monsters.

Speaking of forbidden cards, I thought of an idea for a top-10 involving it that you may not have done. Top-10 cards that were taken off the forbidden list only to go back on again (since unbanning it was a mistake, etc.). Imperial Order going back to being forbidden even after a nerf made me think of this. Maybe include cards that went from (semi-)limited to being unlimited then back to limited later if the list of re-banned cards is too small.

There's a simple solution to the Victory Dragon issue - errata it that your opponent may not surrender the duel once it's been played. The discussion about the issues it has reminds me of a card mechanic that's never existed, but I wish did - a monster (level 4 or lower) with low attack, that if battle damage it did ended a duel, it restricted the opponent's ability to use the Side Deck - either they can't side at all, or they can only side 5 cards maximum, or they can side but have to reveal every card they're taking out and every card they're putting in and THEN the player who attacked with this monster gets to sideboard with the concrete knowledge of what their opponent sideboarded...just something that gives you a perk in the next game based on that card having ended the first game, while not on the level of outright winning the match.

One/two problem(s): a player can deliberately get a game loss by tournament rules after it is summoned but before it attacks. Furthermore, I'm fairly sure that not allowing cards to activate in response to its summon does not change the fact that there is a period of time where the opponent knows VD is being summoned before it is summoned. Your approach would fix VD, but it'd need to be done a bit differently. The way I'd do it is by adding the following text to VD, or reworking VD's current effect to include it: "If your opponent surrenders the Duel or is issued a game loss while this card is being summoned or is on the field, you win the Match." (edit: typo, changed this approach to your approach)

I feel like Victory Dragon and other Match winners could be fixed by simply adding a ruling that would prevent a player from scooping for a reasonable amount of plays after it hits the field. That way the Match winning effect could still be used as intended without the user being able to run out the clock by keeping his opponent unable to forfeit.

in terms of kirin coming back it should be limited, and if it got an errata i honestly would say that "You cannot activate "Majespecter Unicorn - Kirin" until the end phase of your opponent's turn after the turn it was special summoned"

I have a suggestion for a potential series. There are a LOT of YGO video games, and almost every game has it's own separate card list. Some cards are different then the originals, some games have weird rules etc. You could pick a game and try make a strong deck or two using whatever cards and rules are provided in said game.

What I would give to see Logs play Yugioh: Forbidden Memories for the PS1 and try to make sense of it all since the rules for it predate OG first set Yugioh. Like you get to play one card per turn from your hand and it can be magic, equip, trap, or monster.

Block Dragon gets away with being unbanned in Master Duel because the excavate mechanic is so horribly slow, almost no one wants to play it. Adamancipator has to be the rarest high tier deck in Master Duel.

It would be cool if Kirin was erratad to not be able to be Pendulum summoned in the first place since its own archetype can't do it natively. Maybe give it an alternate summoning condition like banishing or recycling Majespectors. Heck, this deck really needs a good boss monster and decent backrow, so something bigger than Kirin, but a bit harder to summon would also be nice

I would love if Victory Dragon was given an errata to cause a match win EITHER by the damage for win OR if the opponent surrenders while it is faceup on the field. That would negate the unsportsmanlike aspect from the opponent. Wouldn't really negate the arguing, but would lend improvement. Let's be real, I'm only defending it because one time (just after its release) I won a casual match with a friend using Victory Dragon.
