Whenever I post this recipe (or any vegan egg recipe) I often get asked why vegans don't eat eggs. After all, it's just an egg, it doesn't harm the chicken right? Unfortunately, the egg industry does kill quite a lot of birds. Not only do they kill the male chicks on the day they're born, but the hens are killed once their production wanes. Not to mention the horrible conditions they are held in (the vast majority of eggs in the US are factory farmed). Even for rescued hens, I'd prefer to let them eat their own eggs as this can provide them with some extra nutrients. Plus the more I think about how that egg came out of the same hole as their poop, the less appetizing it is to me too! But that's just me. For more info on this, just google "Why don't Vegans Eat Eggs?" and there's even some answers regarding "Backyard Eggs" as well! Why Make a Vegan Egg?? Because it’s fun, it tastes good and it doesn’t harm chickens! And if you want to try some vegan eggs but think this is too much work for a first recipe, you can always make my super easy Tofu Scramble instead! Why Are You Replacing a Nutrient Dense Egg with Vegan Junk? I never ate eggs for nutrition but for taste. Same with these vegan eggs! And these aren’t totally devoid of nutrition anyway. It’s just an egg or two, it’s not gonna make or break my health, so relax buddy! All Those Ingredients are Less Sustainable Than a Chicken Egg! No hate, but I’m just pointing out that chickens don’t often eat their own eggs and will typically only do so if they have a nutrient deficiency. This means that if a chicken did want to eat it’s own egg it would do so right away, before the farmer would have taken the egg anyway. They don’t really keep them around just to snack on, so it’s not like eating eggs is taking them away from chickens who would have ate them instead.

I recently got a giant tub of powdered peanut butter and the realization that I could turn any liquid I wanted into a peanut butter filled me with a hubris seldom matched in the history of mankind. Do you understand that eggs have no chicken in them? There is no one dying from eating eggs as they aren't fertilized in the first place and hens lay eggs regardless of mating, thats just what they do, which means that that are just some protein balls, with nothing living inside. So technically all eggs are vegan

Since male chickens aren't't helpful to the egg industry, they're killed in a grinder at birth, even if the farmer doesn't do that the chicken breeder does. Also most are made by chickens in cages or small pens, and we've bred chickens to lay a painfully high amount of eggs at all times.

Cut out things gradually at a sustainable pace. Watch Dominion, Earthlings, Dairy is Scary etc so your WHY is sustainable.

Also don't be discouraged if you can't keep up a 100% plant based diet right away. It's okay to slip up sometimes, just acknowledge it and move on :)

Aim for reduction rather than perfection. Cut out the things that you find easy to cut out and then work on cutting out the things that you know you're going to find difficult. Also, don't beat yourself up if you "slip", you're only human and you've been eating animal products your whole life, it's perfectly normal to not be able to give everything up all at once. I went vegan over a period of 5 years, but for me it was natural, it wasn't something that I was aiming for.

This is just hearsay, but I take it seriously just in case. I talked to someone in a vegan post on Quora, who claimed to have gotten long-term health problems from going vegan. She wasn't anti vegan, just fyi. Just unfortunate side affects. So for me, I'm not rushing it and I want to have a doctor monitoring my transition.

Doing it gradually isn't the best selution for everyone. I can't do things gradually myself. If you have the piece of mind, time and energy to quit cold turkey, it may work better for you. Just saying, there isn't one selution that works for everyone.

There's a lot of cholesterol in eggs the body doesn't need. The body makes it's own cholesterol. Try different egg substitute recipes. 100% plant-based food is to me like an endless world of different tastes and ideas.

Not always & not necessarily. If we ate a simple, low ingredient diet, we would likely suffer from vitamin deficiencies & an unhealthy restrictive mindset about food. Some super beneficial ingredients are ones that we can't pronounce or know what they are unless you study every single possible chemical/additive & learn the risks/benefits. You can break down the ingredients that make up a blueberry, and there are over 30 ingredients. Same with every simple food. Eating a balanced diet while maintaining a healthy food relationship is more important than worrying about every individual chemical we consume.

They will spend their lives without fresh air, sunlight, or room to flap their wings. The male chicks born in the egg industry (about 7 billion globally each year) are considered useless and are separated to be killed immediately. They are then either gassed to death, suffocated in plastic bags, electrocuted, decapitated from workers stretching necks to the breaking point, or tossed into a metal grinder shredded alive. Most people don’t know the suffering it takes to produce eggs and will continue buying them secure in their belief that it’s harmless.

I went vegan on the farm i was raised on, where i raised backyard chickens from incubators. I would never willingly eat another chicken's egg & i used to consume them daily. The entire industry of animal exploitation is violent. Even the eggs we acquired on our small family farm & the chickens we kept with love - it is not possible to separate the consumption of animals or their by-products from violence.

Cruelty eggs are possible, other than dietary reasons, what's the issue with eggs? Same with sustainable fish? Absolutely zero animal products seems like a kind of weird dogmatic religion at this point.

Labels like 'cruelty free' and 'free-range' are there to make the consumer feel good about contributing to an immensely cruel industry. Cruelty free or not, once a hen drops in production it's slaughtered usually at 3-5 years of age, when they could live at least another ten good years - the egg industry *is* the meat industry. "Cruelty free" farms also get their chickens from the same hatcheries as non-cruelty free farms. I wouldn't be surprised to find hatcheries are designed to be a direct 1:1 replica of Hell. Deform and male chicks are put on conveyor belts that takes them to macerator where they're grinded alive and conscious or they're gassed on trays in fridges with co², co² causes asphyxiation and is extremely painful. Female chicks are hung by their necks on machines that cut off the tip of their beak without any sedatives whatsoever. Egg-laying hens also are genetic abominations and most breeds would be better off extinct, the health complications from laying 20x times more eggs than pre-domestication are - and prolly still 10x more than pre-industrialization - unsurprisingly, plentiful

If a vegan became a vegan due to animal welfare, then most eggs are mass farmed in factories when the chicken are treated poorly. However, I do think free range locally sourced eggs should be fine, but at the end of the day it is still an animal product. I myself will just eat eggs and meat from wherever because I think it tastes nice

Egg laying chickens usually only live to 2-3 years when their bodies can no longer produce eggs. Once they are no longer useful, they are sent to slaughter. We have selectively bred them to produce 250+ eggs per year when the original chickens only laid 12-13 per year. Their natural life span is 10 years. Also look into male chick masceration. In large facilities when the eggs hatch, the chicks are separated by sex. The makes are literally ground alive because they are useless to the industry. The vast majority of eggs are factory farmed. There are thousands of birds one on top of the other in disgusting sheds...it's not uncommon to come across birds that have died and are unnoticed by the farmers.
