Celtic versus Rangers. The two big Glasgow football teams. When they play it’s the old firm derby. One is built on Irish catholic immigrant roots, the other leans more toward establishmentarian of the Protestant/British crown. Bigotry and sectarianism is rife in both cultures. But so is beauty, stories and a common ground. 🖖 Personally I’m a Tim (Celtic fan) as is KB. If you don’t take it too seriously (which sadly all too many people do) there’s a vein of humour to tap into.

As Limmy would say, I once met Kevin Bridges at a charity event, he was very funny and down to earth. He had just started doing comedy and was asked to do a pub gig for charity in Hamilton. He was maybe 15 or 16 and totally unknown, not even the last on the mic. When I heard him speak, it seemed to me he was possessed. How could this boy speak like a seasoned comic with total confidence, improvising the first 5 minutes, having everyone present in tears of laughter. It was triumphant and I went to work the next day predicting a new star was born, never so certain of a prediction in my life. Not so lucky for the lad that followed him, who totally died on stage. I feel so fortunate to have witnessed that performance.

That work placement bullshit was basically just slavery. There was a case of a women who worked at Poundland, she got fired because the store realized they could fill a lot of staff with work placement from benefits people. It was keeping people relying on food banks and insufficient "unemployment money" (they were working!) even for food and the cheapest one-bedroom flats despite working full time hours in normal jobs, no wonder so many people killed themselves. The "give us a quid or I'll stab yer" thing was a popular openning to a mugging when I was about 18, except they'd ask for 50p... always 50p... to call their gran in hospital, or similar. At which point the less savvy get out their wallet/purse and are met with a knife. My response was universally to point at the closest cctv camera, which was always focussed on us, because as a bunch of punks and otherwise alternatives, they were always worried about us. The beat cops got to know us, they got called to us often enough. Usually their response to the radio was "Yeah, the strongest thing these guys are on is Pepsi Max." The one time the camera was pointed the other way (we were a target so we delliberately sought out the cameras) a guy pulled a kife on us and tried to get whatever he could. I managed to distract him for long enough that he gave up on wallets, but he got our shitty broken phones. (This was before Smartphones). So yeah, from my perspective this guy has a lot of relavent jokes, although from a different part of the UK, we're not too far apart. I did get a slap for my efforts, though, the guy did try to stab me in the leg in the process, and this apparently caused distress to a girl that was with us.

In the UK, you can claim unemployment benefits indefinitely. I believe in the USA, there is a limit to how long you can claim for. As long as you're actively looking for work, or have a legitimate reason for not being able to work, you can claim for a lifetime.

Its true! I know a couple who are on benefits, she's been on 16 years and he's been on 20.🤨

I had a friend worked in an pound shop. One evening I asked him what it was he precisely does there. He said, you know, helping out, stocking shelves, putting price tags on things. I said, hold on what do you mean putting price tags on things? He replied, you know going around with a pricing gun putting price stickers on things. I said, pricetags? it's a pound shop, everything is £1. So mind numbing had it become he hadn't noticed the irony and futility of the task they'd set him. We all fell about laughing, but that might have been the weed.

I have to find one his videos that was uploaded to something other than a comedy channel. I reacted to his Can I Come in Your House (Hilarious) and it was instantly blocked. I have him, Jimmy Carr, and Kevin Bridges on my members discord because they were instantly blocked by KZbin.

Gday mate you are the only American I've seen who appears to understand the glaswegian accent. Most other American people who listen to this alike I can't understand it but I listen to it. Ach the noo.
