Rwanda deportation plan is 'dead and buried': Starmer; key points from his first conference as UK PM

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday (July 6) confirmed his newly formed government would not pursue his predecessor's policy to deport asylum seekers who arrive in small boats to Rwanda, ending the scheme before any flights took off. In his first news conference since becoming prime minister, Starmer also committed to spending 2.5% of GDP on defence ahead of Washington's NATO summit next week to celebrate the alliance's 75th anniversary.

Have you researched this topic properly. ? Approximetly 614 people arrived in the uk by small boats last year. The population of the UK is around 60 million. Some 30 thousand illegal immigrants arrived in the UK last year. This may sound like a lot but it represents 0.05% of the UK population. Do you really think 614 people arriving in boats is the cause of all our problems in the UK? I think the boats should be stopped because the criminal explotation of desparate people must be ended. However if you really think "stopping the boats" is going to improve your quality of life then more fool you.
