British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday (July 6) confirmed his newly formed government would not pursue his predecessor's policy to deport asylum seekers who arrive in small boats to Rwanda, ending the scheme before any flights took off. In his first news conference since becoming prime minister, Starmer also committed to spending 2.5% of GDP on defence ahead of Washington's NATO summit next week to celebrate the alliance's 75th anniversary.
