I’m so glad to see the bees knees on this list. It’s the drink that got me into making my own cocktails in the first place, and like you said I was afraid of gin so I always made it with bourbon. I love gin and I love a good negroni. But not everybody likes that fierce herbal bitterness, so I found a recipe online advising to make a small negroni (20 ml of everything) and then top it up with a dry, orangy IPA beer (I used jaipur from Thornbridge and Bitter Truth Orange Bitters). It's delicious. Converts all the craft beer people I'm sure!

What a coincidence! I literally just rewatched the Eastside video for a Cocktails 101 I'm hosting because it's such great introduction to gin. In addition to the juniper flavor, I find that people are put off by anything that isn't a G&T for three reasons: 1) Unless the drink is built in the glass it's "too much of a hassle" to make. 2) If the drink calls for bitters or liqueurs outside of Angostura, Aperol or triple sec it's deemed complicated or expensive. 3) Lowballs and drinks served up are often considered "too strong". Once I became aware of this, it got a lot easier to make people excited about making and ordering cocktails.

I universally introduce gin cocktails with a bees knees. Absolutely one of my personal favorites and I always have honey syrup on hand. Having said that, I have never had an eastside (we never have cucumbers...?) Also, my barrier to a gin martini isn't the gin, its the vermouth. I am still building my palate to tolerate vermouth (of any kind), though drinks like the scofflaw are helping there. :)
@jacquin8511

Try Italian vermouths, or craft versions. Martini and Noilly Prat are somehow the most common while being the least likeable. Drink Manhattans, Negronis and Martinez to get into red vermouths!
@rocnathan
@rocnathan 4 жыл бұрын
If people ask me, I usually recommmend one of these five: breakfast martini, last word, gimlet, martinez (gin/genever at your discretion), martini. And of course the aviation. ALWAYS the aviation. Not such a big fan of the bee's knees, but on occasion it's fun. That said, going to try the artillery, because I've recently been trying some Spanish vermouths and with the right one you can introduce a whole world of complexity.

Awesome content! I work as a spirit promoter, and gin has always been a challenge. I did well with the Bombay Bramble one event. I like the first drink, to enhance the botanicals. Most customers are unsure of the drink strategy. Always ask me what to mix with gin. And they don't like tonic! It has to be simple for most folks. Thanks again.

I was in the camp that I thought I hated gin due to martini's that I was allowed to taste as a kid that were horrible. And then I started watching you and greg during the pandemic and my father in law won a bottle of Tanqueray, which he gave to me because he "hates" gin... I needed to find a way to drink it and so glad I did. It's now gin is my favorite spirit. I have tried several of your Gin drinks and love the 1904 Martini and Marguerite from 1904 as well and dirty Martini's. Now I am exploring different gins and vermouths. Not a fan of the 1:1:1 Negroni though... sooo bitter. Thanks for showing great recipes for Martini's.

So glad to see the Bee's Knees getting some love. It's a damn good drink and my personal favorite. Aviation Gin goes particularly well with it, too. I actually had been making them with Aviation for a while before I found out that the Bee's Knees is one of the recommended cocktails to make on the Aviation website. Anyway, awesome video. I've tried all but the Artillery, but I can't get ahold of The No.3 London Dry in my area. EDIT: I would also like to say that my dad had been notorious for saying that he hated gin. I made him a Bee's Knees and he had to admit that it was really good.

Great video. About a year ago I decided to go from Gin-Hater to Gin-Fan and started playing with several brands and cocktails. The drink that really got me hooked was the Bombay Saphire Laverstoke. With some experimenting at home the Aviation became one of my favorites, as well as a Corpse Reviver #2. I like Negroni variations quite a bit as well, but can't take a full dose of Campari. I still can't do a G&T or a Martini - the astringency and bitterness are too much for my palate. When used in cocktails that feature lemon or something viscous - like Cynar - I'm super happy.

I'm still not brave enough to try a martini because I'm iffy on vermouth, but I wouldn't drink a vodka martini either. One of the most refreshing summer drinks ever for me will always be a greyhound with a splash of pomegranate juice. 1oz London Dry Gin 1oz Cointreau .75oz Fresh Lime Juice .75oz Simple Syrup 1-2 Rosemary Sprigs Shake and strain into a chilled coupe with a rosemary spring garnish. It's delicious and by far my favorite gin cocktail, even if it isn't gin dominant.

I do love me some gin with my honey ginger sour (one slice ginger - muddled, 20ml lemon, 20ml honey, 40ml gin - depending on the gin profile, I may use 2 dashes of angostura if it is not intense enough)... it has some nice texture because of honey, it's tense, got some bite from ginger, but not overwhelming just enough, it's very herbal and in the end it doesn't end sour but leaves honey flavour. I find it enjoyable even though it is on sweet side (it is balanced with gin botanicals and ginger)

Interesting concept on the Gin Martini. The martini is probably my absolute favorite gin cocktail. I've been mixing martini's for several years (in fact, I mix one up every Friday after work). I've tried a few variations over the years, but I've never thought to try garnishing with an orange peel. I also prefer my martini's extra dry, but I look forward to giving this recipe a try. Cheers!

Have you ever tried Suntory Roku gin? As ever the Japanese take something from another place and turn it next level great. Also as a Brit, gin is in our blood. Just to add, I'm making those last two tomorrow!

Anders had a variation on the Eastside called the Juliet & Romeo, where you add rose water and reduce the mint, very good. BTW, I love the idea of this challenge.

"Vodka is gin without botanicals, gin is vodka with botanicals" - what a great distinction and no wonder I adore gin more, the floral and citrus essence is so much more nuanced and delightful, I hope more people will discover it and come to love it

I finally made a gin cocktail after years of avoiding it after a bad experience with a gin an tonic. I tried your fresh blackberry bramble and loved it! Thanks for this channel...I'm not much of a drinker but I want to experiment more with cocktails and different spirits.

It's probably my favorite clean spirit. It's such a versatile drink, with tons of different slight base flavours, but I'm always much more oriented towards the more citric ones. I can defnitely drink one of those straight, with some ice cubes and just some dilution. It's such a strong character clean spirit!

Even before this video, shortly after starting down this cocktail adventure, I found out that I do like Gin. Even more so than Vodka as it turns out. Really a fan of all the different types of Gin in the same way I found I was a huge fan of Rum. Thanks for the upload, gonna try this challenge this weekend.
