What an amazing day! Your love for each other so warms my heart! No more watching the fake news and trauma we are all facing right now in 2022 for me, I switched to watching your channel, Jess on Roots and Refuge, and Living Traditions Homestead. I was so tickled after I found your channel with a, "Homestead Wenatchee, WA", search and then the same day came across the video of Jill flying to come visit your beautiful homestead! I grew up in the Wenatchee Valley and reside in Manson now so your videos make me feel like I am back home :) God Bless you all and I thank you so very much for sharing with us all!

Well said, and same, and what a healthy, refreshing channel to be watching after the past year and half. I watch some newer stuff, then some older stuff, but it's all good. Very lucky man, very beautiful, smart and talented wife, kids are learning more than we can even think possible with some areas of the world. To think this channel was wholesome, and started, before the world even became so corrupted and foul simply astounds me :)

Try wax instead of grease on the sliding gate boards. I use old candles that have burnt down to stubs. Melt the wax in a tin can set in a pan of water. When melted, use a wooden form (homemade) and pour the wax in to let harden. When the bars of wax have cooled pop them out out the "mold" and wax the boards on the gate. Women used old candle stubs to wax drawer runners so they would glide easier. It has a side benefit of water proofing wood.

Its interesting to see what is considered "barnlike aesthetics". I have ranched all my life. Steel and metal panels were my goal after I had animals destroy and injure themselves on plank and timber. We are working with a 50 year old tobacco barn in Kentucky. Our retirement farm. We have kept the wood as much as possible but there are salvaged steel gates from the pastures we refenced, some new metal panels to create new pens and salvaged lumber built a new hay feeder. As we age we like gates that swing easily, lumber or steel. This was a lovely video. Enjoy your soup and the satisfaction of work shared.

I've tried growing celery from seed twice with no luck. What type of seeds are you using? What I've done to have celery in my garden is purchase organic celery, and cut off the root ball area. Place the root ball in water a small bowl of water to establish roots then plant the root ball in my garden to grow.
@theelliotthomestead6 жыл бұрын
I don't grow from seed - I've never had luck with that either. I buy starts from a local nursery and they tend to do 1000x better than anything I start from seed myself!

Love language .. mine is quality time. I don't like the Christmas period because the whole love language thing really escalates for me. When people buy me gifts or give me cards they interpret my lack of excitement as a reflection on how I feel about them .. it's just that gifts don't do it for me. The person whose love language is gifts is in their element at Christmas time .. the voices that cry out that Christmas is about time with family and friends is stampeded into submission by the rushing feet of frenzied shoppers. I also find gift buying really laborious, I suck at it, I hate going to shopping centres and I dont like spending money on 'things'. I have made the offer of spending time with someone as my gift to them/us, but they can't, they are too busy with their shopping ... maybe after Christmas, they say. It took 40 years to convince my family that presents are a dumb idea and stupid tradition to continue to follow considering the amount of stress it causes. For the last decade we have not given gifts. We go as a family to see the latest block buster christmas release at the movies. This gives us a shared memory and something to discuss and debate over Christmas dinner.
@tbrown23026 жыл бұрын
MELODY MUNRO we stopped the gift buying carousel by doing this, each family (7 of us) brings a box and a homemade goodie to put in each other’s box so each family goes home with a basket of fun! Our motto: keep it simple. In years past we’ve brought home jerky, candles, lotion, soap, bath salts, lip balm, sweets, soup mix in jars, hand stenciled wood sign, ornaments, games, framed family photos, etc.... all made with love. We try not to tell each other what we’re making but that can be the hardest part! I hope our younger generation will carry on the tradition and have as much fun with it as we do.

I am not huge on gift giving either but my sons love language is gift giving and he finds so much joy in carefully planning and picking out for others. I can't take that away from him. It's hard to find the balance sometimes but seeing his excitement makes it all worth it ❤
@keeperofthehomeat4dfarms5 жыл бұрын
I truly hate that people do not get into the Christmas spirit It should be a time of joy and making memories. Reminiscing, reflecting, and rekindling child hood memories. A few good things that I learned to avoid the stress and hustle and bustle is to remember we have a whole year to plan. Why people wait until the last minute I have no clue. Picking up gifts for loved ones through out the year helps. Alot of people love homemade gifts not store bought. It's the love that goes into them and the thought behind it. The wise men brought gifts to Jesus that were practical and useful memorable. I start cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas meals in October and putting them into the freezer. All I have to do is take them out and reheat. I use to grumble alot when having to cook alot for two house holds but I realized christmas is suppose to be about giving and serving others not ourselves. Christ came to serve not to be served. This concept and truth has helped me alot over the years and now I do things with a happier heart and keep my stress level down by preparing and planning ahead.
