That was SOOOO beautiful! The morning with the lights, the coffee, the bread, the fire, the towsled hair of the little ones. Your baby saying how much he loves to watch smoke. The music!......it was all just food for my soul......very well done.....Thank you for the peace that this brought in a chaotic and sometimes ugly world. I love your videos and I love your hubby just sharing his heart about his vision. Not many women have a man who shares in that way. You are blessed!

Shaye, I just have to tell you. I have been watching your videos, they always relax me. When I saw this one, I couldn't help but keeping smiling. I want to tell you why.... Yes, I know some things are staged for the videos -- but, the combination of what is and what is not, is precious. You with your daughter in the morning, her cute little messy hair -- not staged for the camera, and precious. Stu with your little boy lighting the fire. Your husband is right there, and obviously your son has been taught, and continues to be taught, how to handle them. And your daughter as well, lighting the candles on the table, her foundation of teaching on that skill done and she is older and continuing to learn. You guys obviously don't just say "don't touch those, they are dangerous." You teach them that they are a tool. I love the combination of sour dough, fermented pickles, espresso, lashes, dresses, jeans and coveralls; birthing and lipstick & nails. You, my lady, are a pretty amazing woman, who seems comfortable in her own skin, and that of her family. Thank you two for sharing your home and your lives with us. From a 65 year old grandmother ---- your mother must be very proud of you.

Thank you for sharing a small part of your home. The smell of fresh heritage grained bread, strong espresso, egg foods, prosciutto foods all mingling in my head. You set the scene, rise before the rooster crows. The sweet cherubs with tousled hair appear from their cozy little beds, with the sleep still in their eyes. The day begins together at the table, breakfast first, than farm needs tending. I believe one cannot plan a plot of land without knowing who will tend to it. Bellissimo 💝

I know this was over a year ago but I am going back watching your playlists and this video got my heart. Those dark early mornings when coffee hits a little earlier then the kiddoes wake up. Wow I remember those Washington mornings where it seems like the sun will never come up and then it goes down so soon. Do you guys not want to have pigs anymore? We built an outdoor kitchen this year and the sun was tough so we planted some trees for shade...but I could just not plant shade trees so everything we planted was fruit trees. Has made a nice "little" orchard that will grow to look awesome eventually. Good luck! My sheep are getting big too. Spring is just around the corner...sigh. So much to do! Have new pigs coming next week, build a new greenhouse for seedlings (should be easier to heat than the big greenhouse), finish the sauna and the outdoor kitchen...whew. My wife wants another pond for the ducks and geese too. But that is what makes this so much fun don't you think!!! Merry Christmas.

I vote for an "old" European style greenhouse (glass & wood). Please, no plastic. Fill this with flowers, young vegetable transplants, cuttings etc. Surround this with small trees, a pond and possibly an "old style" gazebo or pergola. A small seasonal garden with some lawn would add to the ambiance. Good luck with the project and enjoy!

We have an open area as well and have been considering what a few already mentioned, a food forest, year long food production with a beautiful feel, we're considering a mulberry tree ( we already have apples and cherry) then adding berry hedges and plum trees, we planted irises this fall. TFS and happy holidays.

I was thinking an edible garden, too. I like to combine utility\productivity with beauty and whimsy. I'm in Western Washington, and have been planting perennial gardens and coppices. This year, I've been planting a great deal of willow, Cornus mas, quince, hawthorn and berries. I've got a tiny cider orchard, and am starting on planning an edible native perimeter hedge. How about a berry maze near your pond with "an area of rejuvenation/relaxation in the center with a gazebo with a swing or two in it"? Maybe a fire pit? Consider growing some of the berries on cattle\hog panel arches for some extra charm. How about a perimeter hedge of coppiced hazel\filberts for nuts and fencing material, black locust for fence posts & firewood, pollarded mulberries (Morus alba) for fruit and tree fodder for your livestock? That could look wild and mysterious. (I'm guessing it's too dry for colorful willow arches that are great pollinator forage and can be trimmed & used for building, furniture & basketry material, or fire wood - if you select the right cultivars.)

Secret garden, pond, meadow. Things to ponder: Do you want the roadway to always be opaque like a hedgerow? Or do you want large spreading trees like a maple/oak alley with spaced trunks? Do you want the drive to be uniform the length of the field, or variable? Do you want large trees? Or do you want them kept small via coppice or pollard? Do you want the pond or the meadow to be the focal point? Do you want the meadow to be primarily a pasture, or play area?
@drekfletch
@drekfletch 6 жыл бұрын
Also, which side is north? I started to suggest a forest corner at the far corner, but don't know if that would work.
@drekfletch
@drekfletch 6 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna suggest anyway. In the far corner, a copse of coniferous trees to grow tall, such that eventually you could walk below the branches. Perhaps a nut pine like a pinion. Then the copse would spread it's arms along the border along the driveway, interspersed with pollarded trees kept for firewood. Maybe maples or the trendy black locust. Underneath and between the trees a hedgerow of something like bayberry or hazelnut. The other arm of the copse would become a backdrop for a "bramble" of roses; with maybe a cherry here and there. Through which would arc a stream before it wound out into a meadow. A full third of the garden, the meadow could have a scalloped border garden for vegetables of interesting structure or for seed saving. Beside the meadow opposite the driveway, a nice arbor walk down to a seating area. From the meadow the stream would fall into the pond, a sort of paisley shape that contains a wading edge and flowering rushes. The final edge to be an "orchard" of a variety of fruit trees.

I"m a permaculture Orchard fan, diversity and permanence and edible. and grow different things, Autumn olive is a nitrogen fixer that grows in your area and the berries sorta taste like lemonade. so you can use it as one of your trios and then look at maybe apricots and maybe some heirloom varieties, maybe sloe's or odd plum or apple varieties or maybe a few chestnuts, etc. okay a few more apples if you want as well. but love me some trees. Love your idea of a pond in the middle. secret garden inspirational material. I like to grow my flowers in with my herbs and Veggies, I know that sounds crazy, but I like companion gardening, Strawberries love Asparagus, and Roses love garlic and Potatoes and Green Beans protect each other! :) xmas dino went extinct? what? hmmm spello tape to the rescue.

I planted forty eucalyptus grandis trees on the property. here in Florida.They were 3 ft tall 2 yrs ago and are now between thirty to forty feet high.
