We've been full time in our 33 year old RV since April. The plus sides: No mortgage to pay, we have the freedom to come and go when ever and where ever we like. I'm married to my best friend and we still like each other. The RV life may have actually saved my life because I was becoming a couch potato. I get to walk Pickles 2-3 times a day for a mile or two each time (I don't think I ever walked that much while I was in the Army) I'm retired so money comes in twice a month, no matter where we're at. DOWN SIDES... LOT RENTAL; even sitting at "home Base" we still live in the RV so we still need to get fresh water and dump out tanks, so we have to pay for that. Propane lasts anywhere from 2 weeks in the winter to 3 months in the spring/summer. Our "House" only gets 6 1/2 miles to the gallon. The toilet/ bathroom in ours is kinda small but the doors close and lock. I do most of my own repairs but pay for oil changes. You never own an RV... living full time in an RV.... IT OWNS YOU!

Couldn't have put it better! The RV definitely owns us. 😅 It's an amazing life of freedom, but all the little costs can quickly add up. Glad to hear y'all are having a blast with your pup on the road. We imagine Pickles is loving the walks as much as you are. ❤️ Hope winter treats you all well!

Hi guys, a few thoughts: 1. For the winter, go where it’s warmer. 2. Stay at each place a week or two (you don’t get so much travel fatigue & have more time to explore) 3. Try staying at State Parks or Core of Engineer Parks (both may not have sewer at your site so you get a Blue Tote. Sites are alot cheaper and beautiful) 4. Maybe spend Christmas with family to rest & take a break. 5. THEN go to warmer states and truly enjoy the winter months in the trailer. Traveling fulltime, even for a few months at a time can be sooooo much🤗🤗

When we did vanlife we had the same problems, granted we never used our wet bath in our class b and we used an electric heater in the winter, we mostly stayed in state parks and Koa's and we traveled in two vehicles, it got really expensive. Now we prefer rental cars and hotels. Van life was fun . But it got old quickly.

I suggest getting a Blue Boy (I think it's called - a portable waste tank), as this will make your stay much easier and more enjoyable. That way, if you realise that your black tank's full after you hook up, like you did, you can just pull out the Blue Boy, connect it to your valves, empty your tanks and then transport your Blue Boy to the nearest dump station without needing too hook up and move your RV. Just store it in the bed of your Ute (truck). Remember to get one big enough to hold the entire contents of your grey and black tanks so that you're not going back and forth.

Welcome to life on the road. All the things you were talking about brought back memories when I think about now (A couple of decades later) fondly. At the time It felt like a never-ending struggle. In a way, you have got it made. The two of you aren't trying to live together in a 67-inch by 102-inch windowless truck sleeper. No sleep, eating very unhealthy food while paying $10m a day or a shower and having to wait for an hour for your turn No sightseeing, just constant driving. One thing about it you will look back one day with a smile on your face remembering all these times through rose-colored glasses. If you let it dealing with all these issues will make you a stronger person and give you experience handling things that will help you survive this crazy life for the remainder of your time here. Good luck, enjoy

Reference dealing with stuff all over the RV. Suggestions: make sure everything has an assigned storage spot. Things you use the most are stored closest to where you're most often sitting or standing. For just a week or two, everything goes to its assigned spot. Any violations cost .25 cents lol. We learned this when back packing, car camping, kayaking etc. Firemen and cops learn this early on. You create habits on storing critical items. You will be amazed at how it works. Cheers, love watching you guys.

17 states with 2 adults and 3 kids under 10. A 23 foot bunk house pulled by a E350 Conversion van. At home base had to back down a block long street and then down a 9 foot wide driveway. You learn, adapt and manage. I ended up living in the trailer for 8 months when I changed jobs. Would I do it again? In a heart beat. Full or not, dump your tanks going into a campsite. Top off your fresh water tank at every opportunity. Then you can shower in your unit, privately and safely. Toss the RV water filter and get a household filter that will last for a few years. ~ RE: your map. Did you frame it or buy it that way? I couldn't find one already framed.

So it would be just as cost effective to drive a SUV to hotels instead of RV. You cant find those awesome spots in a hotel but during the winter it might be cheaper to go from hotel to hotel and then day trips to site seeing locations for content. I was all set to buy an RV and did the finance of it and I can stay at nice hotels for the cost. That or just rent an RV for times where you can use it in NON winter times.

Top tip: Please don’t use the 4 corner steadies to level the van, they’re not meant for that, they are for stabilisation only, once the van is level. Damage to the chassis or van floor could happen if you attempt to jack up the van using the steadies. You should use ramps under the wheels for side-to-side levelling and (as you have correctly done) the jockey wheel for front-to-back adjustments.
@whynotbekind19572 жыл бұрын
True…they are just to keep the camper from shaking/feeling bouncy when you walk, or in the case of a little pop up…they will keep it from tipping over once the beds are put out…lol….but they are definitely not lifting/leveling jacks

Our original plan was to be full time rvers for 5 yrs but by Year 3, I wanted to stop. The cost of repairs and maintenance, the constant moving from one campground to another, the close quarters of many rv sites that made me feel like we had no privacy were the top 3 reasons we stopped. Sold the motorhome and are much happier. If we go on the road again, we’ll rent one for a weekend or a week.

We only part time, but we have a Class A diesel pusher. Setting up is easy. We pull into our site and push auto level. It does the rest. Once utilities are hooked up and the slides are out we are done. There is a ton of room in our living room and there is a lot of ceiling height too. If you travel you can't get away from fuel cost. Our coach gets 7 mpg towing our car. I will say, your campground fees are outrageous for the off season. They must be gouging you because there is no one else open. Most RV'ers head south in the winter. I know you are doing your 50 states in 50 weeks, but you'll be happier when you start heading south. This time of the year the Florida Keys will run you $200 a night, but after all of you snow and ice it will be worth it. Also people do say that Disney's Fort Wilderness is one of the nicest campgrounds you will ever stay in. They say between Thanksgiving and Christmas even the campground is nicely decorated.

We lived in a 5th wheel for about two years, one of it was a year trip around the US. It was supposed to be longer but after pulling into Key West for the winter I realized I didn’t want to do it anymore. We sold our truck and trailer and rented a car to get “home.” All your mishaps/adventures/complaints I can completely relate to and is part of the reason we quit. We are in Europe now and when we get back we are looking at buying another trailer. I guess we didn’t learn our lessons. Have fun and enjoy making memories.

Hahaha! Sounds just like us! If we ever "quit" I imagine our story would be very similar to yours... We'd go travel for a while and then probably go buy another vintage RV/trailer, accidentally spend another year or two of our lives renovating it, then start traveling all over again until we "quit" again 🤣🤣 But that's part of the fun of life, right?! Hopefully this next chapter of RV life is bigger and better than your first 🙌

Go back to the old Endless Adventures. Please show us quaint B&Bs, country inns, wineries, luxury hotels, homestays, quirky art hotels, and the like. Much more interesting for your viewers IMHO, and likely cheaper for you guys. US RVs are made to travel to one or two locations every year and park. Most won’t stand up to 24/7/365 use. Do yourself a favor, and get rid of constant repairs, showers that take quarters, smells, outrageous campground charges, malfunctioning engines, head bumps, dodgy doors, and the tedium of hookups and emptying sewerage every day. You deserve to use toilets you can flush and forget!

I agree with others who are saying to take more time. If you feel you never have time for anything, then why not slow down? There's always more to see and do in whatever place you are, so there should be no rush to move on. Also, why travel to the coldest states at the coldest time of year? It's winter! You should be down in Florida or California! I think after Christmas you should take a plane to somewhere warm and more exotic again.
@AcadianCanadian74292 жыл бұрын
We live in Central MA! Looking forward to seeing where you're headed, and hope you have a great visit! On travel woes: Staying longer in one place if possible can really help a lot with "moving day irritation", and the cool thing is, you can decide how long is long enough by experimenting with it. Maybe try 3-4 days in one place to see how doing so makes moving day feel. If moving day feels better than it does after 1 day's stay, 3-4 days might be your "current style" ... if moving day still feels cumbersome after 3-4 days, the informational value is the same: adapt by staying 5-6 days if possible, and assessing the feel of moving day again.... rinse and repeat until it feels good. lol

I'm so glad for you that you are not running around Europe right now. Prices are insane as can be. As I've seen the last week it's doubled up on energy and food prices are in some areas 5-6 times more expensive. Edit: Have a cup of white vinegar in your fridge. It neutralizes a lot of bad odors. To remove moisture sustainably get a bag of road salt and hang it over a container. It is the best energy-efficient dehumidifier ever.

Well I see, you just maybe about to drive into my state of Connecticut. Did you know, it is one of the most often misspelled state names? 🤣 as for keeping clutter to a minimum. If you haven’t got a designated dirty laundry bin/bag that’s a big help. Next labeled bins in your cabinets. This way you know where to stuff, stuff, and where to find it easily. Lastly, from my sailboat days, hanging elastic netting, that can suction cup, (or magnet) to a wall. They’re handy storage, and can hold all sorts of extra “stuff”, while keeping counter space free and clear. Happy Trails!!!!

I have a new nice fifth wheel. It is fun and exciting for vacations, but like any vacation, it is nice to get back home. I personally have to have a full size home as my permanent home while spending time in our camper.

I lived in a trailer for six yrs. The thing I hated the most was the black tank. If I had to do it again I’d def go with a composting toilet. I’ve used on in my tent while camping and it’s much less smelly. I don’t think all you plants are dead forever. I accidentally froze my house plants. Most of them were alive at the root level. It depends on the plant

While it seems to me that you are having fun, you also seem to be in a hurry to do it all, see it all and have it done by yesterday. 50 States in 52 weeks is one week per state. Slow down and smell the coffee. I think when you have Clementine and Ruby back you will be far more relaxed and get back to the fun stuff. Think it's about time you get to some warmer weather so you can enjoy the beach and some warm weather hikes etc. Keep positive, you ARE living the RV LIFE just slow down and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

My advice is get a 5th wheel with slides. We have a 32’ (total length) with 2 slides in the living space and a slide for the closet, an electric fireplace that puts out a lot of heat, plenty of propane, and tons of storage. For full time living it’s the best. Also, there are two recliners and a couch with plenty of room to exercise! We travel with a cat and a dog, but we are not full timers. I’ve seen them decorated and painted and they can be beautiful. Give it some thought…

We've actually been talking a lot about renting a 5th wheel to try it out. We love that you can reclaim the space over the truck's bed! Sounds like you and your furry family have the perfect adventure vehicle 🙌

It seems to me from hearing the daily cost that you could drive a more mileage friendly vehicle and go from resort to resort to vintage hotels to airbnb ect. I would watch that. My wife and I had so many interesting adventures staying in what was then called BNBs.
