Hello Stefanie, thank you so much for this video, most of this words are the ones which I use to struggle with, but watching just one time I didn't get the differences between MAN and MEN, these two little words drives me crazy! I was expecting you to put more enfasis on these two more than on the others, I don't know perhaps it's only me, but I think that among all those this two are a way more difficult, but I'll try to get your point on the way pronouncing them by watching and listening over and over and over again. Thanks a lot Stefanie you're awesome.

Eloa Mosquini. My prononucation problem
@thiagotorresbr6 жыл бұрын
Think of the "chen" and "chain" as the words "pen" (en) and "pain (ein)". That's the same type of difference in pronunciation. Kit has a short i sound. Key has a longer E sound. Also, in kitchen, the stress is on the first part of the word: kit. You pronounce it stronger than the Chen. Keychain the stress is on Chain, so you pronounce it stronger than Key.

My daughter, at age 2, came to the US speaking Italian and Spanish. So on the basis of these two languages she once asked a kid around age 5: "How many ears do you have?" [Trying to ask, "How old are you?"]. "Two," answered the boy. "What a liar," she came to tell us. Twenty years later she graduated with honors majoring in English.

Exactly, the best advice on how to improve your accent is to learn the IPA and check every word's transcription in a dictionary. It is especially important to adult learners who are usually very bad at picking up accents naturally.

I loved the video! Today I can pronounce all of these sounds correctly, very different from when I first tried to learn English. Though these sounds were not as troublesome to me as the pairs Ball/Bowl and Fall/Full. I think that for portuguese native speakers these two sounds can be truly difficult to tell apart. So if you do any other pronunciantion videos, please include those, it'll help a lot of people! You are a great teacher! The best!

Good subject! I have been using English at work for a long time, mainly as an interpreter, and I spotted the other day that I tripped over a word Pepper. I wanted to say pepper but instead the word paper came off. Another thing I can't get rid of is long forms like There is, There is not, It is, It is not. I know I sound weird saying it like that but my mouth just got used to going with long forms.

This is very good. In the case of Free / Three / Tree , even though they aren't that identically pronounced, the problem comes when they are said fast in phrase. It happens with other words too, for instance It happens to me that I hear a guy saying " my front side walk" and sounds like "my friends I walk" that guy pronounces "front s(ide)" as "friends" for me, I still can't notice the difference when that guy says that phrase.
