GT gave the Saiyan roots back,gave the Dragon Balls an actual role and symbolism other than to resurrect already dead people.
@jantheking70283 жыл бұрын
Every dragon ball series gives the dragon balls a role except for DBZ. In the original DB, they constantly searched for the dragon balls and king piccolo used it for youth. In DBS, the dragon balls were used by zamasu to wish for immortality and switch bodies with goku. Moro used them to wish for youth and break the prisioners out of jail. Granola used them to wish to be the strongest.

That sense of Mystery was always the one thing that made the ending of GT so special for me.... Here is a quote from Robert Ebert when he reviewed the awful sequel to 2001: Space Odyssey; "I felt that the poetry of "2001" was precisely in its mystery, and that to explain everything was to ruin everything -- like the little boy who cut open his drum to see what made it bang." That's exactly what I felt like when I watch GT's ending. Not knowing where Goku went with the eternal Dragon at the end and returning after 100 years, it just made Goku go beyond legendary... something of a Myth. The little boy who went from a warrior, to a hero, from a hero, to a legend, and from a legend to somewhat of a god at the end and beyond. 100 year timeskip Goku is perhaps the most powerful being in all of Dragon Ball, if not all of Anime. Not because of his raw power.... but because of the story we grew up with... And the legend he ascended to become.

My own head canon of this event along the lines of what's explained here is the Goku essentially becomes an alternative to using the dragon balls. Since the dragon balls got corrupted from over use, Shenron wanted to create a solution to remove them....but still have a way for the Earth to be able to repair and defend itself should the need arises. That solution...is Goku. Now with an immortal body, he's essentially permanently become earths protector. If there's ever any threat the jeopardizes earth. Goku will ALWAYS be there to defend it. I like the Daoism idea and it does make sense in context. I've always interpreted that when Goku was killed by Omega Shenron the regular Shenron was able to manifest and give Goku extra time and his eternal power to destroy Omega once for all. But it came at a price, Shenron and the Dragon Balls would merge with Goku altogether to become the champion of the Dragon Balls and essentially the whole universe to ensure they would never be used again. He would then go to the Dragon Realm which is talked about here and there sometimes (it was discussed and shown in Toyble's AF) where he'd go on a 100 year journey to become totally and utterly immortal and invincible. During this time he can never see any of his friends or family, but after he can visit the mortal realm and Earth as much as he wants.

See i feel like heroes legacy needs more attention since its fundamentally the only db series to actually do what og db and z did which was pass the torch like roshi did with goku and tien/w co and like goku did with gohan goku jr was the new head of adventures

So, knowing the show was cancelled and they needed to end GT properly, the writing team created an ending so deep that most outside Japan wouldn't even notice the depth until decades later?

This soundtrack is called "The storm is over" dbgt soundtrack it plays when Golden Oozaru Goku remembers the day he had with Pan on the beach and he transform into super saiyan 4. This also played in Goku Jr Special when Grandma Pan got recovered and she is on the plane to get Goku Jr. This is also the last soundtrack ever played in the original run of Dragon Ball Anime until the writers brought Dragon Ball Super Back.

One thing I recently realized, through my growing passion for the myth of King Arthur, is how much Goku's story in DBGT resembles Arthur's last years of life. The glory days of old (DBZ/the Round Table) are long gone and the last battle approaches - a battle against a very personal enemy the hero feels responsible for creating (the Shadow Dragons/Arthur's bastard son, Mordred) - so the hero is once again summoned by the magical entity that started his very first journey (the Dragon Balls/Merlin), which he must now experience once again in order to be ready for the final battle (Goku literally and symbolically relives his childhood/Arthur relives his first lessons with Merlin). Then, at the very end, the hero sacrifices himself battling the ultimate evil, but some residual form of him leaves with the promise that he will return when the time is right. I'm not saying this was all intentional - of course not, althoguh maybe some of it? Who knows... - but it's just to say how GT, with all its problems, truly elevated Goku's story to the status of a mythical tale.

I just love the way Geekdom explains it to people so they will appreciate GT more. Also if you didn't understand the ending when you first saw it, here you go! Lol. TBH, when I see the ending of GT episode 64, I get teary eye because it shows a flash back of the series and the development of Goku over all. Now, after watching this, I can definitely say it will be that much more emotional. If I already loved GT, this made it rise that much higher and will forever (to me) be the ending of Dragon Ball.

Great analysis. I came up with a pretty similar conclusion rewatching it a few years ago being older and having read numerous Chinese novels and manuals. You can definitely see the similarities between Goku and the cultivators depicted in many of those stories with the ascension to the immortal realm/plane and returning under very rare circumstances.

Why do people feel the constant need to add in "I don't like GT" in their comments before or after stating something good about it--or even if they don't?
@tiablue91063 жыл бұрын
ikr? I get saying that in some contexts, but ppl overdo that with GT. Like they can’t just say they like smth abt the series w/o adding “not like I like GT or anything haha that’d be ridiculous”. I mean maybe that’s exaggerating, but the way they do it feels like some annoying disclaimer

Its because many people care too much about what others think about them and their true opinions. Even if it is random internet people. Not everyone but most seem to try and fit in with whats currently accepted by the majority and a lot of times its these very same type of people who will claim they hate DBGT without even watching it in any format.

i don't get the hate of gt after like episode 16....the first 16 episodes are mostly garbage and should be cut down to like 11 eps at most since the pacing is awful but after that outside of some bad writing execution like some of the shadow dragon designs or the logic behind super 17 at times, its a good show....i feel people who hate it just never got to baby or shen ..you know good characters for the crew to fight...those 2 make gt worthwhile...many people seem to give up before it got good which is a shame

I knew something was off about the ending. Thank you for clearing it up. I just wanna ask one quick question. In the movie with Goku Junior in it, the beginning part starts off with grandma pan and him praying in front of a headstone that was translated to Goku‘s name. Why did they make a headstone for him if he became an immortal being? Maybe I’m missing something here or they probably did that in remembrance of him since he never came back for a century

What an amazing Analysis, always loved GT because of the original and very well designed plot and even if The Battles are not at the same level of Z Saga the main ones ( Baby , Omega Shenron , Super Andorid 17) are still very epic. I see also a kind of parallelism and almost an Omage to the Star Wars Saga with how Jedi Leave their Material body when they die to what happens to Goku here

Whilst I like a lot of this in theory, this interpretation of what the ending meant does rely on a lot of meta-contextual information rather than what the series itself conveys to us. For instance, even though DB draws heavily from Wuxia and Eastern mythology/philosophy, those elements aren't the be all and end all of the series' world building and rules when considering things such as how its version of the afterlife is noticeably different from its Hindu/Buddhist inspirations as well as the sci-fi elements playing just as big a part in the series. In other words, things such as the Shenlong Realm described in interviews or Goku's ascension as described here could work with the right writing behind them, but the series never touched on these at all as part of their world building or power system to the point suddenly bringing them in at the end is nothing short of contrived.

In the early days of YT, I rewatched GT's ending (and listened to the song) over and over again. It really is the best and most poetic of franchise.
