Someone here said it during Yahtzee’s Saints Row video: when you have nothing left to do, go to space. And then after you’ve gone to space, you go to into the multiverse. Far as I can tell, there is no escalation beyond the multiverse, but I know they’ll find one anyway because God forbid any franchise just end for once

If you want a quick summary of the voice actress drama: the original VA asked people to boycott this game because the devs had replaced her after they offered her too low a paycheck and wouldn't negotiate. It was later revealed that her story didn't quite add up, she was offered what amounted to a fair rate and had been rather deceptive with her initial call for a boycott. Jennifer Hale was accused of being a scab but all she really did was take the job after the original VA declined. As far as gaming scandals go it was pretty small

For me, the problem of Bayo 3 is basically summarised in the opening sequence. Bayo 1 has one of the best character introductions in gaming imo: the comedic shock value of Bayonetta transforming from a nun to a gunslinging dominatrix - all set to a slightly mad pop remix of moon river - is second to none. I watch that scene when I’m feeling down and I’m instantly cheered up by the sheer, off-the-wall camp of it all. Bayo 2 actually managed to match this energy with its opening scene, and although it’s not as shocking since we’re expecting the insanity this time around, it still manages to be funny and camp and over the top. Bayo 3 on the other hand starts with the death of the protagonist from Bayo 1 and some pretty drab, hackneyed multiverse lore. Even when the fun, campy section begins, it’s just not as outrageous as it could or should be. It’s still a fun scene - I particularly enjoyed bayo swiping a curtain and turning it into an evening gown - but we’ve seen it all before. The entire opening sequence feels like the creators didn’t quite understand what makes Bayonetta appealing in the first place. Don’t get me wrong, Bayo 3 still a lot of fun in places, and Bayonetta deserves credit as one of the most iconic, unique characters in modern gaming - but the latest instalment doesn’t really do that character justice… especially after such a long wait between bayo 2 and 3.

You did make an excellent point I feel like they should have backed off the multiverse and reinforced the faeries it builds on the lore and world, could have bigger enemies too, fleshes out Luka and Viola without shafting them it felt like there was two different writing rooms that couldn't decide what they wanted the game to be about
@TheRhuen
@TheRhuen Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the escalating threat thing hopefully will scale back next game; but the different writing rooms thing, I feel it; the elf Luka and fairy stuff came out of nowhere to me and needed some kind of explanation...that said Luka and Viola having aesthetic similarities to Madama Butterfly has me suspicious of what is going on there, and Cereza was clearly posing as the Dark Eve to test Viola, so not the same situation in Inferno as Jeanne had. But the multiple writing rooms, that was my biggest complaint for Bayonetta 2; it felt like it had two conflicting stories and one stole time and focus from the other. Like the rescue Jeanne from Inferno could have been the whole game, fighting demons this time instead of angels, exploring Inferno, and Alraune had the look and had that foreshadowing moment at the start to be a big bad boss; its never even explained how she got Jeanne's soul when the witches are supposed to end up with the demon they primarily contracted with *for Jeanne that was Madama Styx* just as next game we expect to see Cereza working for *or catering to the Vore giantess crowd* with Madama Butterfly to absorb her energy and then let her recharge or however that works in this series with soul power. and there was some history between Alraune and Madama Butterfly, but all of that had to be rushed past to get back to this time travel Loki celestial being story that just felt like a plot thief.

@@TheRhuen Loki was there to explain why the 1st game even happened so when people were upset with 3 not explaining Singularity at all I'm not surprised cause 1 needed 2 to explain it's reasonings it's just what the series does but they need to settle on a singular plot because it makes pieces of the story feel disjointed and unsatisfying like did you know Singularity was actually an A.I. created by the Sigurd we see in the beginning and he just so happened to have multiverse powers? it would have been a more legitimate complaint than the every button masher ever complaints he had here. Viola was so slippery on her landings and her bonus missions where she could only do damage in witch time gelt glitched...like her witch time lasts easier in regular gameplay but for some reason turns off after one hit on the opponent sometimes in those missions...and her swing was a pain *who gives a swinging character ONE swing...until she goes fairy mode...but odd there was no switch between them option (or I missed that option).

The first game was trying to be deep at least, despite it being so predictive and having such an underdeveloped villain. It was about the familiar concept of Light and Dark in the Dark Souls series which I'm an advocate of, but Bayonetta 1 was inferior for me because there was not much to it rather than 3, 4 cool characters for how action focused it was. The world was not occupied by enough npcs because it wasn't an open world obviously. So, I was hoping devs would directly continue Bayonetta's story finding out more about the world and her lost memories to see more major people in this world or good new npsc, but the sequel started off by shifting towards an unconvincing rescue mission, and there has only been a squirrel boy character introduced that I don't like... Combat's still great and the game is so over the top fun it's dizzying. One of the first stages has you surfing down the sides of a building on a giant t-rex demon while some monster is throwing trains & F-16's at you. Ending felt epic, but the story could've used work

I watched him live play like two hours of this game, and he talked over the entire thing with completely unrelated things; so I kind of suspect he didn't play much more than that...and he didn't play it very well at all anyway...he died during the tutorial for instance; and just watched other play throughs, like the final boss *but not the post game bosses*. I know he tries not to spoil it but this review was pretty bare bones and just felt more like *I am reviewing this because it is new, but I don't play this type of game or like it anyway*. So kind of a brush off review for anyone who played and enjoyed the game to any degree.

@TheRhuen I wasn't a fan of it for the plot reasons I listed above. That, and dimension hopping bioweapons is kind of out-of-theme for Bayonetta. I dunno. I just don't like it when the story goes "We killed off the character you liked for so long and replaced her with this new OC"

I’m a massive Bayo fan but I agree with a lot of your points about 3. What makes the first 2 games so great is that it keeps upping itself. But now the situations only are on par with the climax before it. You get sick of the big set pieces and over the top enemies because they are all equally big and over the top. “Tiresome” is perfect for how I feel about Bayo 3. Although I play B 1 and 2 almost every day.

@@nepsit219 I think the only other thing that standout about Bayo 3 is the censored mode that takes away all the mature elements to make it more assessable to those that can't handle violence. On paper this should be a pointless idea because the game still has swearing, but the bar is so LOW in Bayo 3 that it became a good thing. Bayo 3 may help newcomers into the series, but that's it.

Here i am again, playing my usual game of arachniphobia roulette. I bet my sanity for the day on if yahtzee will use that spider stock photo he whips out for unexpected clever bits of dialog that justify the spider. Today odds are 7/10 in favor of the spider, fairly above average. I would imagine in a chaotic character action game like Bayonetta 3, yahtzee could very easily work in a joke with a spider.

Although I do have to say that Bayonetta has been hinting at going multiversal as opposed to it being in vouge with any other media property, it makes sense for the established world but sometimes you're caught in the tail end of the hype. The first game dealt with issues of the past, the second intertwining past and present and the only other option was a collision course of all 3 realms or multiverse.

As a fan of the franchise, I'm loving it so far, (though despite liking hard games, definitely recommend playing on Easy first to level up skills some), but as a result of being a fan, I'm curious what someone like Yatzee would think about it, since it's a game that plays like a new member in an old franchise, rather than adding in too many pointless gimmicks like open world that so many new games do.
