While 'mods' might be available to console users for cash, they are priced, lame and heavily policed. PC modding is a bit like Rule 34: If it exists, there is a mod for it. The only reason they exist is because they buy the exclusivity of games. How pathetic is that that you need an artificial anti-consumer measures to justify your existence? Oh, hi, Epic Game Store, didn't see you there. As for portables - GBA, PSP and 3/DS have a legitimate reason to exist by covering the niche that PCs aren't capable of - pocket gaming. Notice i said "pocket" and not "portable", as that is very much well in the PC's range of capabilities, as illustrated by laptops and even Switch-sized mini PCs.

Eh, gaming laptops have always kinda sucked when it comes to actual portability. Even non-gaming laptops can't quite compete as you still have to find somewhere with enough space to set up and more space for the mouse and/or keyboard. Switch-sized mini PCs like the GPD aren't great either last I checked, iirc they could compete almost toe to toe but there were tradeoffs you had to make.

Console gaming is more refined from an interface perspective. Remember how Yahtzee dumped on PC RPGs when he was reviewing the original Witcher game? When you have an entire keyboard worth of buttons, you have to think up a use for each one of them.

Tbh the whole "PC is cheaper because of options" argument doesn't hold any weight in the UK. I don't know if it's down to import tax or whatever, but a decent Video Card costs about as much as a console. Add that to the price of everything else, and these days you're paying more for less of an experience. I'm actually looking into getting a PS4 (I'm not getting a PS5 on launch), and transitioning from PC, because it's more cost effective.

Hate to argue with Jack on backwards compatibility, but having a PC doesn’t mean full compatibility. I know it’s different, but I can’t play 32-bit games anymore on my Laptop due to MacOS Catalina. And please don’t crucify me, I am aware that Mac is significantly less than ideal for gaming, but I prefer the UI, as well as the overall workings outside of the gaming aspect.
