As someone who is contemplating getting into indie game development, I am very tempted to make a game where all the human areas are flat textures and simple designs, and aliens areas that are incredibly detailed and intricate. Did i get this right, Destiny 2 is about a single messianic figure whose job it is to save the entire existence or something like that? What a great idea for a story for a MMO game. I think it would be refreshing to see a story that tells every player how they are insignificant and most likely amount to nothing but if they work together and not give up can become legends...or some shit like that anyways. I'm too tired to be the chosen one when there are thousands of other chosen ones running around constantly.

I'm proud of you Yahtzee. You've opened the door to a whole new world of experiences. Staring at Video Game Walls is a fine pass-time. Looking at far-off cities painted on sky-boxes... Realizing the area you're in actually has relics from an ancient civilization hidden in the background... Appreciating the effort that went in to make a particularly interesting wall texture... It's like realizing that there are WAY more interesting pieces of art hidden behind an underwhelming painting that got too much hype. Look past what you're "supposed" to be doing in the video game, and really soak in the environment. Someone put a lot of effort into sprinkling gems of brilliance into that world, and it's a joy to uncover them. Appreciate the under-appreciated.

Why Destiny is good: it offers Halo quality of shooting mechanics, while at the same time giving players incentives towards repeating the same missions over and over. Its a lootfest where top tier loot really changes the way you play (at least in D1 it did). The last point is where it differs the most from Warframe. Warframes loot is unexciting and usually just means bigger numbers next to your frame/weapon. If Destiny only had randomized missions (using tilesets and objective pools) it would be easily be as loved as Warframe is.

That is essentially the story of the Secret World Legends. It acknowledges that you are not alone, you are not the chosen one and when you are on the occasional high moment and try to take on a big that you are only able to fight because of powerful artifact/magic source/plot device (normally you couldn't get a dent in their metaphorical armor), you generally get fucked up anyway and don't manage to do what you came there to do. You get taken away by a higher power and can't get an artifact. You get knocked out by another faction and once again don't get anything to show for it. Another guy actually finishes the next fight. The fourth one isn't even a battle as much as a cutscene where you get instantly trapped. And the fifth time the person who you are supposed to fight doesn't care about you wanting to fight, gives you some info and is then taken by stronger forces. Meanwhile you do grow in influence, make connections and generally get stronger, but you are not the chosen one. If you were the world would be royaly fucked. Instead you are one of a thousand agents of a secret society who is trying to figure out why the world has gone to shit after a bomb with a tar like substance went off in Tokyo. You travel to New England, Egypt, Transylvania and Tokyo, plus visit cities like London, New York, Venice and Seoul. It's quite something.

@_Tylireous_ And how is FF14 different? For me it looks like in WoW nowadays, you're the big Hero, that runs around collecting those Crystals. In WoW Vanilla or Burning Crusade it was like ShiroiKage009 said, you are one of many. But with Wrath of the Lichking they already started to some degree, some Quests marked you as the Hero, Mists of Pandaria was similiar to Wrath in this. The worst it became with Warlords of Draenor, you are that Super Duper General Leading a Whole Garrison in Draenor ... yet in the Field its always YOU doing stuff ... Later you even become a Admiral having a huge Sea Armada. Legion is even worse, you are the Top of your Class. funny just, that the Classhall is FULL of Leaders. Just so stupid, in an MMO to make the Players Character the super Hero, General or Class Leader. That makes no sense at all, Grand Story wise.

@AmazingJoe967 жыл бұрын
they werent just on about destiny 1, but destiny as a franchise

That's bullshit and you know it. They weren't talking about 10 years of annual garbage

They said destiny was going to last 10 years.

The former. Bungie

Hey, I too like to look at wall textures and random little details. Like books on bookshelves.

For the record, Cayde-6 is a saving grace of this game and about the only character I will ever like from Destiny.

Sums it up nicely. Most interesting part is the unique wall textures XD

I just want you to know, that "Going to the places and shooting the lads" has become synonymous with going to play Destiny 2. Thanks for that.

It's fun when playing with friends. Though I warn you, Bungie will keep trying to force you to buy expansions which are crazy expensive. That's what got me to stop playing.

Not sure if you will like the grindfest that is destiny? Download Warframe for free - if you like it, great, if not - saved you some money.

thepolarblair1 Ehem, if you like it, keep playing warframe, the superior game.

Exactly. If you aren't sure if you're the sort who can tolerate grinding, Warframe makes an excellent test-bed.

Funny how Destiny 2 changed so much since this review, by now that it could now be Destiny 3. Also they yanked out all story, my Kayden was simultaneously alive and dead, depending on what mission I was playing.
@seanb124915 жыл бұрын
i think after shadowkeep comes out he should re review the game, seeing that the last statement is "up yours publishers" and bungie is now independent
@Nerdsown7 жыл бұрын
The wall texture may have been in part procedurally generated. A fractal based method could make something like you described.

+Dj Zrolo you do realize you can run through every level without even shooting or killing an enemy, right? That's how fked this game is. They just want your money. They don't care about the game design.

@SpankSandwitch997 жыл бұрын
Bonnie his Reviews are critiques that overly rag on the negatives, but for those capable of understanding him, (i.e. not you, apparently) he reserves actual hatred for the generic games and any drab sequels. It's obvious that not enough changed from the original for it to be worth getting, since the original was dull.

He should review the free bit of the game. There is 0 story, cause they removed it, so they force you to buy the game
