In my opinion, the fact that, for the most part, none of the major characters in the Batman universe have any actual superpowers is why that universe is so interesting.

Ra's Al Ghul is immortal, Poison Ivy has the power to manipulate plant life, Bane has super strength because of the serum. Not everything has to be realistic to be interesting. Batman himself isn't realistic in the slightest aside from him not having super powers.

Trug0d Just chemicals? Superpowers caused by pseudoscience are still superpowers. That being said, I know what you mean. Batman universe is very low-powered in scale of superhero comics and that makes it interesting, I agree.
@unnamednewbie13
@unnamednewbie13 10 жыл бұрын
JboneDRS Batman isn't realistic by sheer virtue of his being able to walk in a straight line after the amount of bone-crunching punch-ups he gets himself into. For that matter, the Joker has a skull made of iron. If they wanted to make Batman realistic, there would be 18 issues of Bruce Wayne's physical therapy between every issue of actual fighting. But then only chiropractors would read it.

I got a bit cocky with the Detect-o-vision and left it on during a fight with Poison Ivy, only to fail repeatedly because winning the fight relied on shooting her when her not-at-all suggestively-shaped flower fortress/beast opened to reveal her in all her pants-wearing vulnerability, an event that could only be seen if using regular vision.

***** Yeah I suspected so, but that doesn't excuse the poor boss battle, it wasn't poor just because it was bane and we know what bane is and what he's capable of, but it was because it wasn't designed good enough, but I give them a pass because it was their first try, plus they improved a lot with the example of the Mr freeze boss battle (which I hear is very good but I haven't played that game yet).

The most interesting that Batman gets to me is when his actions somehow don't appeal to the other members of the Justice Leauge (for example, his contingency plans) and he always makes up the best justifications for doing so. It's once again reffering to his almost frustrating OP'ness, but it IS still interesting to hear what excuse someone has for planning to kill his best friends 'just in case'

It is mainly modern batman who is uninteresting; back in the old comics he was actually cool because he wasn't the replaceable violent brute with gadgets that he is today. Sure he didn't have the super high tech stuff that he would have nowadays (like the iGod microscopic 56 H), but he actually used his head, he used the fabled detective skills he is supposed to have but that you never see him using in today's batman comics because he has a very convenient computer to do all that crap for him while he bludgeons the Joker to the edge of death and then throws him off of a building that Joker will still somehow manage to survive the fall from and be in perfect health. Heck, although less action and violence was in them, the old dc comics and even the old marvel comics were better because not only did dc have more interesting characters that weren't one trick ponies that could only use superpowers, a green ring, or gadgets that do the thinking for them but the characters would use real world science and facts for things, heck I learned more about the human brain from those comics than I did from my damn anatomy class and we basically drove right past that subject in the class. Old marvel comics were also better because they didn't have these massive epics of lengthy storylines and sometimes very convoluted plots, they actually went over a lot more than just that stuff or gave you a good story. I can only really base this around the buttloads of Thor and X-men comics I read, but Thor was more like a cool story with a cool hero doing cool things and that was all it needed to be. X-men and even the avengers sometimes went over more social issues like racial discrimination (or rather racism) and even split personality disorder (which I find falls into the category of a social issue for the people around you and your social life in addition to being a mental issue for you)

There's another reason why you wouldn't want to turn off the detective vision: when you can see through walls, it becomes kinda tricky to judge whether you're actually in front of a wall. This can be a problem from time to time.

Batman enemies are NOT gang leaders in Gimp suit with no powers whatsoever. Scarecrow's gas brought Superman to his knees, Bane tosses boulders with ease, Solomon Grundy is a zombie hulk, Joker is just fucking Joker.
@SuperMiracleMan
@SuperMiracleMan 11 жыл бұрын
Yahtzee didn't say all of his enemies are such. Some are loonier the the loony toons, others are just shoved in the asylum because they don't really have a prison in Gotham, the Riddler is an example. Anyways, Scarecrow, Bane, and Joker have no powers; two of them use chemicals to give them an edge while the other just shanks you while laughing. Grundy goes into the super power/paranormal category of villains. Poison Ivy falls in between Grundy's and Bane's categories depending on what Batman you look at. Batman: the Animated Series version of Ivy is in the using chemicals part where The Batman series she falls in between because chemicals caused her powers. Black Mask is in the gang leader category which also includes those who use tech or ingenuity(pretty much in the chemical category.) Some other examples are Riddler, Firefly, and Deathstroke. So in summary Yahtzee's comment on Batman's enemies was justified by the fact that a majority of our favorite caped crusader's villains have no superpowers.
@MsSomeone98
@MsSomeone98 11 жыл бұрын
Shadow_Plays Lex Luthor is human, but that doesn't stop him from waging war on alien gods. Deathsrtoke is more of a Captain America if he was bad. It's just that Gotham needs multiple teams of heroes(Batman family, Birds of Prey and the Outsiders) just to keep it under control. It's like the time Batman "died" after killing Darkseid(yet another example of how human heroes and villains aren't just bank robbers and street levelers). Both Batman AND superman couldn't stop the joker from escaping that time he killed Jason. Deathsroke half the League on his own and Nowadays, Black Mask even has mind-control powers from his mask.
@SuperMiracleMan
@SuperMiracleMan 11 жыл бұрын
You somewhat ignored most of what I said so I will capitalize the idea. NOT ALL OF BATMAN'S ABILITIES ARE JUST BANK ROBBERS AND WHAT NOT. Also Darkseid is more on the line of a Superman villain. Deathstroke to my knowledge had not gone through a procedure like Captain America went through so I don't see the comparison that well. Also Joker is still a mortal that has no special powers. Now I have little knowledge of DC or Marvel comics, but I assume the Black Mask's mask itself gives him the mind control ability, not him having it as a semi-natural power.
@MsSomeone98
@MsSomeone98 11 жыл бұрын
Shadow_Plays Darkseid is more of a Universal villain than a Superman villain. Deathsrtoke IS a super soldier/ mercenary/ assassin. It's even in his bio in Arkham origins. "Military experiment". Yes, black mask's power is from his mask. i never said it was natural.

He was a hippie who was followed by whores and fishermen, not exactly the smartest or honest type. He probably walked on the shallow part of a lake while everyone was drunk, and then the myth was born. He claimed to be the son of god, and all he had to do to get out of it was admit he wasn't and the romans would've given him community service or something. He continued to admit it, so the romans said fuck it, he was tried by the jews and crucified, which wasn't such a rare punishment at the time, especially if they want to make an example of a cult leader.

It's widely accepted that a Jew called Jesus was executed by the Romans in the 1st century. Many of the other events of his life *are* up for debate. We don't know they're true (even the mundane ones) just because the gospels say so.

Yep. The Jewish Pharisees and Romans who hated him and the things he said both corroborate his existance and ministry. Not to mention his apostles founded councils of bishops which is the formula the Catholic Church has followed for 2000 years to this day. It's very weird that people will gladly accept history and science that predates Christianity, but anything that's verifiable about Christianity suddenly doesn't count.
@RacingSnails64
@RacingSnails64 6 ай бұрын
@@zabaothBro are you trying to discount Jesus? Yes his disciples were fishermen and tax collectors, lowly members of society, but that was intentional on his part. "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." That time he shared a meal with prostitutes was to show the religious leaders that they were being callous and cruel, not paying attention to the people who needed help most. It's like the core thing he was known for, taking care of the abandoned and the sick. He frequently outsmarted the Pharisees who played mindgames with him, quizzing him on Jewish law trying to trap him in hypocrisy only for him to turn their words against them, such as when they asked him if they should execute a woman who was found cheating on her husband. Jesus sat back and said, "He who is without sin can cast the first stone." Everyone walked away in shame, and the woman was spared. Even if you're not Christian or religious, he's widely accepted to be a good man who did good things.

His a billionaire, which allows him to realistically afford his gadgets. 3. He can die from: Bullets. Explosions. Melee weapons. Poison. Poisonous gas. Being crashed by a heavy object. Very high/cold temperatures. And finally, old age. 4. He is prepared for every possible situation. Which i love because I get to say: "when the fuck did you pull this backup plan from your ass, bats?" 5. HE'S THE GOD DAMN BATMAN!

A police commissioner and his state's district attorney converse on a roof to figure out how to stop the crime plaguing the streets of the city... when out steps some nutjob in a costume sporting pointy ears and an oversized cape. Neither of the two men are sure, but one might suspect he's been hiding in the shadows since sundown waiting for his chance to make a cool entrance. Regardless, this strange figure purports to have an answer to your mob problem. No worries, he says--he's got a plane, some really weird looking belt, and a lot of free time on his hands. He'll get their squealer all the way from Hong Kong and be back for breakfast. He's got this! Both officials, uncertain of his mental stability yet impressed by the extent of his resources -- I mean, geez, look at the detail on his costume, he's gotta be rich, right? -- decide to roll with it. If all goes well, they've got an informant. If not... well, at least they won't be taken to this "Bat-Man's" basement to wear his creepy sidekick costume.

I love how in the end credits it looks like batman is gaping massively, or maybe had his lower jaw removed.

The Killer Croc fight was the hardest for me because I didn't know you were supposed to use the bat-a-rang and that's the ONLY way to win. Silly me, I was using all the logical tactics (stealth, zip line, etc) instead.

The other problem with having Detective vision always on is that you don't know when you walking aimlessly into walls.

Also, from your earlier comment, Lyra is a background character. You would have had to, I dont know, maybe look it up to know that was her name?

This review is pretty spot-on. It is really annoying when I panic and try to run from a group of enemies beating my ass with crowbars only to Power Walk away because I'm not holding the A button down... the. I die...

I think Asylum really did fuck up by not having detective vision on a timer or recharge, or at least having more occasions that would bring you out of it. They tried to tackle the issue of always having detective vision on in Knight, but IMO they didn't do enough.

An agreeable statement, friend. More than once, I've seen simple KZbin entertainment turn into an almost satirical argument over trivial matters. It's nice to see, for once, that someone on the chat knows what they are talking about.

It's not always easy to tell someone is using sarcasm on the internet, because it's written and in speech you recognize sarcasm mostly by the tone the person says it, and really, your sarcasm was pretty well hidden, seemed completely legit
