@ultrakwon5 жыл бұрын
I think you can change that in settings. Most camera testers don’t get that in-depth when comparing cameras. They really just test straight out of the box, without fine tuning settings to compare somewhat relatable footage. Sony’s are known for low light, sharpness, and autofocus... Pana is known for stabilization, color science, and user friendly menu interface.

6:50 after a couple of these side by sides it appears that the G95 saves highlights better. It's that true or is it AE failure on Sony's behalf, or even user error? Because right now I'm seeing more usable SOOC DR from the baby boy sensor here over the Sony. And to me, that plus stabilisation, is big.

I'll suffer with the G95's AF a bit, because unlike the xt3, it at least has a flip screen, and unlike the a6400, it has a headphone jack, and its flip screen doesn't get on the way of the hot shoe equipment.
@Technobby5 жыл бұрын
I still miss the stabilization of Panasonic GH5, yet downgraded to a6400 because of the unusable AFC on GH5. I prefer shaky footage than focus hunting like crazy and out of focus. As we know how to handle camera during shooting to make post stabilize easier, it's not a problem. Record in 4K, post-stabilized and export in 1080p.

The autofocus issue cannot be ignored. In the days when there was always at least two of us on a video shoot there was no question that manual focus was the only way to go, but in the new world of a single operator performing multiple roles at once the autofocus becomes the only viable option. Of everything discussed here it was the standout point that leads to choosing the A6400 despite my intense annoyance at the monitor compared to the Panny. Also I should point out that the e-mount path from A6400 to A7S II or coming III is a serious option. The GH-5 is a sweet camera, but I rely on my A7S II constantly for after dark work. I recommend Zeiss Batis lenses for dealing with the weight issues of full frame glass. Batis are superb lenses for sharpness and accurate autofocus, but it is their ultra-low weight for their size that I love about them most of all.
@professionalpotato47644 жыл бұрын
@artistjoh Would you say it's worth building up an E-mount system starting with the a6400, Sigma 16 f/1.4 and the Sigma 24-70 (for when I get the A7iii or Siii)? I'm trying to step up from an old Canon DSLR, and ideally I want to move to the E mount system, because I'm also a solo operator and Sony's autofocus is still king. Only problem I have with starting on the a6400 is the lack of 10 bit, IBIS, and dual SD slots (which is important if I'm doing paid jobs) On the other hand, the G9 seems to have it's AF improved, but kind of usable for static shots only. Fuji has 10 bit, IBIS, dual SD, but their lenses are so expensive I would much rather pay for E-mount full frame glass.
@artistjoh4 жыл бұрын
Professional Potato Fuji cameras are a dead end for serious work because of the lack of lens choices. Beautiful cameras, but when buying into a camera system you need to consider the long term lens issue. For a similar reason I would never recommend Leica as much as I love their glass. Pentax no longer innovates. Nikon is no longer viable because they keep stumbling and could fail as a company. This leaves Canon, Sony, and Panasonic/Olympus as the realistic choices, all of which have huge lens choices. Canon is best for specialty lenses such as tilt/shift but these can be adapted to Sony and MFT. Olympus is a shaky choice, but Panasonic is a solid choice. They put better features into a camera than Sony. However, given AF issues, Sony produces the best over-all package for the average user, and I do like the A6000 series for the smallness, but their full frame cameras have advantages, although price usually determines the actual choices. Personally I would go for the A6600 rather than the A6400, because of battery life, but the A6400 is an excellent choice. For paid work I would always use a gimbal anyway, so I am not sure that IBIS is as big a deal as some people make it out to be. 8bit/10bit might be important if you are producing broadcast material, but for most people it is not the big crucial thing that some KZbin commenters claim. But dual card slots can be an important insurance and peace of mind if shooting weddings etc. As to AF, the Sony advantage is only in video. Panasonic’s DFDF contrast detect is actually excellent for stills. The G9, for example is an excellent stills shooter, and gives advantages like 4K photo, focus stacking, etc that make it an excellent choice. Firmware improvements have also dramatically improved video AF in the G9 and GH cameras. I am currently getting out of Canon and investing more in both Panasonic and Sony. I like them both. E-mount is an excellent choice if you follow that path. The glass is often over-priced, but the quality is generally superb. The 55mm f1.8, for example, makes me happy every time I use it. Sigma helps the budget, but many of the lenses are too heavy. Sigma also has a longer term reputation of not holding their value well over time while native glass from any brand tends to hold value better over time. This only becomes important when upgrading down the track and wanting to trade in your older gear to fund the new. At those times you always do best with native glass. Best of luck with whatever you buy. Sounds like you are thinking about things sensibly.

Great comparison! I would be buying the G95 if it was under $1000 with the kit lens. I am more a stills guy who likes to play with video. I used to be a video pro a while back (can you say burnout?) so I do care a lot about video quality and features. I care even more about fiddliness. For that reason I just bought a used Panasonic FZ2500. I had intended to buy a used g85 but saw this one and boom. I have been really surprised by it in the couple of days I’ve had it. Great video quality and features including 10 bit external recording. Great stabilization for photos and 1080p. You lose some of it in 4K though. Long lens is great. It is really big. Next to my Panasonic LX100 it looks like a giant. I am mostly a micr 4/3s guy so I may go to the G9 or G95 at some point. Or used GH5. What I have now is amazing in the context of just a few years ago. I don’t vlog but both of my (very) young adult children do so I help with that when the need arises. I would absolutely go Sony if they come out with a stabilized A6400. I do like that, for the most part, Panasonic gives you all they’ve got. They don’t hold a lot of features just for their more expensive cameras. I imagine that the 4K crop in the g95 was a marketing decision but I could be wrong. I feel we should stop talking about micr four thirds, or any sensor size, as being cropped in relation to full frame. There are advantages to smaller sensors and for larger sensors. But don’t blow smoke on any sensor because of its size alone. I went away from FF a few years ago to lighten my load. I’m not going back. Do the medium format people talk about “crop” sensors on full frame cameras?

Cool comment dude, I just have a question, for music videos for a beginner, and on a budget I found a 700$ price in a shop for the G90 with a lens, do you think I’m going to be able to shoot 4K videoclips for songs, or will that crop bother me too much?

This is not an easy choice. Panasonic has so much more than just the stabilization. For me the most important are the superior black and white options and the built in onion skinning for stop motion animation. But over all, Panasonic cameras are far more feature rich than the Sonys. If it wasn’t for the superior autofocus the Sony wouldn’t be a reasonable choice, but it does have better autofocus and so it is not a simple decision.
