Hozier is easily one of the best new artists to come along in recent years. His songs are often dark and brooding. And they're haunting in the best way. Take Me to Church is his breakout single that you've probably heard. Watch the video, but be warned - it will gut you. Other great songs: Cherry Wine, Work Song, Someone New, Nina Cried Power, Almost (Sweet Music). Really any song by him is good - he's just got a sound and vibe you can listen to for hours.

Maybe my favorite part-- "As a shrike to your sharp and glorious thorn" He's obviously singing from the perspective of that shrike, and how it must view the thorn that helps protect it and that it uses to eat. Almost as a holy object.
@khloeg1649
@khloeg1649 Жыл бұрын
I'm so happy to see you enjoying this song!! this is my favorite hozier song, it truly is so beautiful for some further context, a shrike is a small bird of prey that makes its living among thorn bushes and barbed wire fences, which protect them, and they also feed by killing small animals and hanging them on the thorns and barbed wire, which is quite gruesome, but they really are beautiful birds. and this is the reason behind all the references to birds in this song, singing like a bird about it now, flying like a bird to you now, etc. and also the references to death/hanging, like a cry at the final breath that is drawn, back to the head rows where bodes are mounted, hung like a pelt of some prey you had won, etc. because that's what the shrike does. so what the line "remember me love when I'm reborn as a shrike to your sharp and glorious thorn" basically means is the object of affection in this song is dangerous right, they're being compared to a thorn bush, but the speaker in the song has a unique way of making that danger into something that's useful for them and necessary to their survival. it is true poetry and more people should know this song.

My favorite Hozier song is Arsonist's Lullaby which is a bonus track on his first album. Anything from him you'd probably like a lot. Nina Cried Power is amazing, given the times we live in right now, but Take Me to Church that someone else already suggested is incredible too. In general, react to more Hozier, please. :D

No at 4:43 is not about how the lover is a thorn, its because shrike is a bird that kills its prey and sticks it on thorns to eat later. He wants to be reborn as a THORN to the lover's SHRIKE. That's how goddamn powerful this is
@katherinemorelle7115

It’s the other way around- he’ll be reborn as a shrike to his lover’s sharp and glorious thorn.

I think it's more along the way that he'll be reborn as a shrike that recognizes and uses the importance of the thorn. He's saying he now recognizes how important she was now that she's gone.

You should check out his version of this song from RTE Late Late Show recorded in support of ISPCC Childline. It is STUN-NING. He adds lots of flourishes etc. and his accent REALLY comes out. It is so beautiful. And if you really like his guitar style and playing, check out his “Rain Over Raleigh” intro for his song Wasteland Baby!

I don’t know why this doesn’t have more views! Love your reaction to Hozier! Plus you really listen to the music and words. I confess I have to listen to Hozier a few times to parse meaning, but you were able to pick up meaning and metaphors right away. If your schedule isn’t too busy, I would love to see more Hozier reactions from you! Really any of his songs because they are all good and other comments have listed good ones, but for my suggestion I would say From Eden, or In a Week. Just bc I’ve not seen very many people react to those ones before, and I think you would appreciate the words and sound. Anyways, have a good day!

Completely get the “find yourself while getting lost” driving vibe you mentioned. such a reflective song! and what better way to accompany it than with the delicate guitar lines and sharp vocals. It’s a crazy poetic song and Hozier lyrical ability is amazing, he conveys such pure emotion almost effortlessly. Glad to know i’ve given you a new song/artist to add to your library! loving the reaction

Dinner and Diatribes and Jackboot Jump by Hozier are two song that absolutely slap on the guitar melodies! OMG, pleeeeeease do them. Talk.... 🤤 if erudite seduction were a song, bruh. NFWMB is a low-key guitar and vocal beast too. Almost (Sweet Music) has a gorgeous guitar hook and name drops all the inspirational greats throughout. Do it alllllll, just everythang, you will not be disappointed! ❤

Our voices are basically percussive string instruments, if you will. So, I think it wouldn’t be outrageous to hear a little of ourselves in man-made string instruments. If feels familiar and comfortable because you hear it all day, every day… but not usually this beautifully.

Love Hozier!! His big hit is Take Me to Church. The video is super powerful though people watch it and assume the song is about homosexuality. However, the song is about the church's condemnation of sexuality in general. You should watch/listen but definitely knowing the background before is a must, I feel.

Alter Bridge - My Champion (this song is perfect for you, plus the video fits your channel like any other on the planet :D). You gotta check Myles Kennedy solo work aswell, songs like 'Ghosts of Shangri La' or 'Love Can Only Heal' from "Year of the TIger" album will blow your mind. Entire record is almost a concept one, each song from no. 1 to no. 12 tells a story about Myles getting through the loss of his father when he was just a child... And it's almos entirely acoustic, with some steel guitar here and there, few solos on an electric, and that's it. Not to mention he recorded almost 50 songs with motherfreakin' Slash! If you need any hints 'bout that, just reply ;)
