This video is how I explained to my best friend what I see when my bipolar isn't under control. The easiest way for me to control it is when I feel supported and take my meds. She's the tear in my heart, she supports me but she doesn't take my shit and kicks my ass when I need bringing back down to earth! Tyler stops seeing the weird faces after Jenna comes in and slaps him back to reality. I've got a special place in my heart for this song because of that

Awesome! As indicated below, Chinatown, I think in LA. This was his first love song (as he indicated in an interview). He didn't want to write a random love song, but wait until there was an actual person to write it about, Jenna. He has written one other for her since, called Smithereens, on Trench. Some have also called Legend on Trench a love song of sorts, as it was written for his paternal grandfather who died during production - written out of love, for sure, but not what we generally think of as a love song. You absolutely picked up on the vibe of the song, as opposed to the standard, off-the-shelf, mushy, oozing kinds. Just now putting more thought into it. Bleeding to know you’re alive starts as self harm. But then someone enters your life who makes you feel alive without that physical pain. They metaphorically tear your heart and make you “bleed,” getting that sensation of feeling alive that used to require pain, but now the love of another has replaced that self harm. Damn that hits hard.

To me the meaning of the video is He used to be dead in live with all his troubles. People only looked but did nothing. Hence the funny eyes of the people in the video Then Jenna entered his live and she was hard, she was firm, maybe even a bit "aggressive" (she is a butcher with a carving knife) and that was what he needed to suddenly realise that he IS alive. It is only my view of this video.

I’m going to leave an unpopular comment, but this is probably my least favorite song of theirs. It was the first song I heard by them and I heard it on the radio. I think their hits were what took me so long to fall in love with their music. Their lesser-known songs are so much better, imo. Love you man.
