When I had a 14 F150 ecoboost. I made a larger intake area in the dirty side (bottom) of airbox, enlargened the intake hole towards the front of truck for cold air. Then I removed the factory boat anchor muffler and resonator and replaced it with a performance flowmaster style chambered muffler. Truck dyno'd at 392 hp and 428 torque at the rear wheels. Informal fuel economy test with the vortex tornado thingy's in the intake: 2014 F-150 w/ 3.5 eco. Drove about 500 miles / 7 hrs. with them in one way on a road trip. Then removed them before returning home. According to the truck I averaged 18.4 mpg with them in. 18.7 mpg after "delete." No info as far as power but throttle response does seem to improve, but just barely and only based on my opinion. Also definitely can hear the turbos better, but again, only slightly. I worked for a jet airplane manufacturer way back when I was young, had a bunch of potential and the sky was the limit, but lets not dwell on the failures in my life where greater at Walmart isn't sounding like such a bad gig. One cool and humid day they were running the engines up on a jet outside my window and I was fascinated to watch little tornados on the ground spinning around. The funnels on these tornado's went up, arched over and went into the engine intake. This is what is happening in the intake system ahead of the vortex generators or whatever they are called in this case. The airflow is from the airbox to the turbos but the vortexes that the turbos make go back up the intake tubes. To make matters worse, they are opposite turning and when two air masses with rotation of opposite direction meet, you get a bunch of stalling, turbulent air. The fins are designed to rotate the air in the opposite direction feeding into the turbo thus moving the top of the induced vortex to somewhere under the splitting point of the combined air intake. With that said, I probably didn't add anything to the conversation BUT watching the little tornado's feeding jet engines was cool and I rarely get a chance to talk about it. Don't forget to tip the wait staff.
