I was obsessed with trains as a little girl, my great grandfather worked for the railroad. As a child he would tell me of his adventures and hardships back then. Seeing you restore this steam engine with love and care makes my heart happy. Especially since there are so few out there that still do your level of complete restoration. My great grandfather was also German, he would have been so proud to see this engine done and where it was made. Thank you 🙏 so much for sharing.

@@michaelcampin1464 Awsome! Even if those old steel tracks are not the best compared to the modern ones there is still a special feeling to them in my personal opinion that can´t be replaced by shiny plastic. (i hawe a modern plastic Lionel 0 gauge as well, but it mostly stand on the shelf since i lost interest in digitalizing after finding out i needed to replace the whole motor as well as running on DC if one wanted all the modern fetures and i don't want to build an entire new setup only for one single locomotive non of the other can even usel, so i concider selling it even if i love the design and the massive feeling of it, the old Hornby/JEP ones is just to clean and oil and it and put them on the track and they runs! Despite some of them being more than 100 Years old now.). I Hawe the the Basset Lowke pre war steam mogul as well in my collecion, i managed to make a ok deal on it since it was smashed into pices whan i got it, but it was pretty easy to fix with new softsolder. Ï currently working on an RC frame with model RC servos and a receiver for an old model aircraft radio i had laying around, my idea is to make the servos control the steam valve lever and the reverse lever (The double cylinder wersion has that function, the single operated cylinder does not i think othervise the seem pretty identical except for the construction of the steamvcylinders), perhaps also a servo for the steamwistle, that had been fun!

I'm usually not a big fan of some of these restoration videos online, but this one really intrigued me! Maybe because I had an old HO train set when I was a young boy back in the 1960's. It kind of brought back some nice memories playing with that set. This one is a bit different than the one I had, as mine was electric. It had these rubber capsuls with what I think was an oil inside it, to make smoke. You would pierce the capsul with a pin and put the oil into the train smoke stack. I wish I still had it. Just that, and the GI Joe I had from the 60's would be worth quite a bit. Unfortunately it was passed on to some other kids growing up in our neighborhood. Our neighborhood was like that back then.

Sitting in a damp basement could do more damage than that in a fraction of the time. Something that old could be more rust than metal. My cousin cleaned up a basement and found beautiful dishes. At least until they crumbled to dust in his hands. They had been completely ruined by being improperly stored. And I doubt they were half as old as that toy. Something has to be really well taken care of to last 100 years undamaged.

Very, very nice results! Looks and runs great! Awesome job! 👍 The one piece that has the spring that is the cap for the water fill on the boiler is probably also a pressure release so it doesn't explode. The tightness of the screw compressing the spring probably is the adjustment for the pressure relief. On a real steam locomotive they're called pop off valves, in the USA anyway. Not sure how to adjust it on the toy but I'd say research and try to find out the specs on the little steam locomotive and adjustment steps for the pressure relief valve. That is if you don't know and/or haven't done this already. Live steam is fun but comes with some danger if not properly respected.

Thanks a lot William for all these infos 👍🏻😃🙌
@vrghr
@vrghr 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheFabrik Echoing @William Bryant 's caution here. That part with the spring he mentions is the "Safety Valve" for the boiler, and the nut on the spring adjusts the pressure relief setting. If you want to keep operating the locomotive, you should really, _REALLY_ pressure test that setting (off the boiler, not on) w/compressed air to ensure it is set at a safe level to keep the boiler from exploding from too much pressure. Also, always be sure to operate with sufficient water. Overheating the metal due to low water levels has caused more "real world" boiler explosions than too much pressure. Distilled water is best for your lovely locomotive, to help reduce scaling and mineral deposits.

When I see toys like this all shiny like new again, I get a little feeling of what that child felt when they got this for a Christmas present or Birthday gift. I just imagine how many children played with it imagining themselves on the train as the engineer or passenger. Guess I’m just a child at heart, that’s probably why I like this channel so much! 😊☺️🤗

My dad had a Bing live steamer as a kid in London in the early 1930’s. Now at last here it is! I’d never actually seen one before! He always told me he got banned from the living room by my grandparents because it used to go so fast it would derail and turn over on the tight curves and set fire to the carpet 😂. He used to load the coaches with stones from the garden to slow it down. In the end he swapped it for some Meccano with a school friend - I never forgave him for that !! Apparently he never even got all the Meccano he was promised either! Great restoration 👍

Lovely restoration! A word of caution on the boiler. I had a similar one explode on being fired up even though the safety valve was functional. It made a very big bang with lots of shrapnel and most likely caused by corrosion from within the boiler. These should be hydraulically pressure tested to ensure they're still safe before pressurising with steam or even compressed air. A little oil on the side faces of the oscillating cylinders is a good idea too - lubricates and helps seal. Keep up the good work.
