In this video, I react for the first time to A MOVIE! “The Pick Of Destiny” by Jack Black’s Tenacious D. I analyse the incredibly… exhilarating musical performances, explain and demonstrate the featured vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. I love a good blend of rock, singing and comedy! This was a jolly good time indeed.

Came in the comments, but in a different way. Meatloaf was a crucial part of shaping rock in the 70's and 80's. I mean rock anthems that are still played at weddings to this day. "Let me sleep on it, I'll give you an answer in the morning." That's Meatloaf! If that doesn't ring a bell, he played a heavy chested man in fight club. You should check him out @The Fairy Voice Mother. This was so much fun to watch... Oh, btw. You brought it up so I think you might enjoy it. Tenacious D did a cover of hit me baby 1 more time. A really short cover, but if you enjoy it, maybe you could make it longer by reacting to a bunch of their covers... Pinball wizard and wicked games

Not only was that actually Dio in the opening song, but his father was played by Meatloaf. Not just a suppressed rock star, but another actual rock legend. There's a video of Dio singing his part and Jack being in awe of him. Then Dio actually asked if there was more for him to do, because he really liked the project. Side note: Kickapoo is a real town. IDK if there's one in Missouri or not, but there is one up in Wisconsin for sure, as well as a Kickapoo river.

I don't remember where I heard/read this, but Dio supposedly brought his own mic, and the studio crew said not to worry about that because they had everything ready for them. He began to do his part and blew out their mic. He apologized and explained that this is why he brings his own gear, and they had to redo the part with Dio's mic.

Highly recommend a documentary done by Dave Grohl called Sound City. It's about the studio of the same name in Van Nuys, LA. When the studio closed Grohl bought the sound board, and had it moved up to his home studio in Seattle. He decided to do a look back at all the legendary albums recorded at Sound City (including Nevermind by Nirvana) while at the same time asking the artist to his home to record new songs on that old sound board.

As for Dave, he can play any instrument and sing. The first Foo Fighters album was made by him and him alone, he wrote and played all instruments and did the vocals. And so did he do for this movie play the instruments you see him play and sing the vocals you see him sing. Tenacious D opened for Foo Fighters at festivals for a while and Dave has played the drums at some of Tenacious D shows. The most wholesome rockers in the world (Kyle, JB and Dave) are also the most wholesome friends in rock.

An awesome watch is Play by Dave Grohl which is a 23 minute song where he plays every instrument. So he records the full playthrough on one instrument then does another 23 minute play through on a different instrument etc. Its 7 instruments including Piano, which he admits he doesn't (normally) play. He doesn't read music so he had to memorise all 23 minutes for each of the 7 instruments.

I saw Weezer here in St. Louis in 2001(hold on, this is going to get relevant) and was supremely disappointed by them. They stood on stage, played their songs and did nothing else. I think my disappointment was exasperated by the fact that they were preceded by Tenacious D. Jack Black stole that entire evening with his exuberance. He sprinted around the stage, leapt energetically, and did the worm 1/2 way across the stage at one point. Absolute legend.

In a “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” role: the redhead that’s sitting next to the guy who’s head explodes in Jack Black’s dream about having the POD, is Amy Adams, who is credited as the “Gorgeous Woman”.

You should also check Tenacious D Live. The battle with the devil doesn't have Dave Ghrol, but it is still awesome.

Jack has a great voice, I love the part when he sings "now it's time do blow this f*cker down" he sounds just like Anastasia on that last note 😄

Dio's part with the lyric "Where the city of fallen angels" and that note is a major ASMR trigger for me.

When Ronnie showed up to record his parts for this he blew the studio mic his first take. Good thing he brings his own mic for that very reason ;) he then nailed it all in 1 take and stated later that he wanted to do more because he found it quite fun RIP to such a great presence in music

20:44 That guitar is most likely a nod to Michael Angelo Batio, who is known for playing a similar double neck guitar (and also a four-neck one, as if two wasn't ridiculous enough). He currently plays with Manowar.

27:09 - Funny thing is Tenacious D recently did a cover of this very song!!! lol 36:28 - Dave Grohl, drummer of Nirvana and lead singer/guitarist of Foo Fighters/Dream Widow. He played every instrument and sang on the first Foo Fighters album!

There's two movies I love that changed my life perseption of things in Many ways, Repo:The Genetic Opera, and Immortal Beloved, the second one is not that much of a musical as repo, but is the life and legacy of the Maestro Beethoven.

"Clockwork Orange" - is a film that was referenced with the guys wearing white and mask while our hero - whose name we still don't know - is crying himself asleep on the park bench. You really should check it out if you don't know it.

20:56 I'm pretty sure the split double guitar and tapping style displayed by Kyle Gas there is a direct reference to a guitarist called Michael Angelo Batio who was famous for such a playing style, treating both fretboards as if they were keyboards.

💓 I genuinely got chills in anticipation of her recognizing Dio. 💓 🎉 _Did_ 🎉 _Not_ 🎉 _Disappoint_ 🥳 Things that _did_ disappoint: ▪ Missed Meatloaf. (that was hilarious, climaxing in "suppressed rockstar" 🎉) ▪ Missed "A Clockwork Orange", went off on "Cockney-Pride" rant. Too funny. 🎉 ▪ Lack of respect for Satan. (Just watched a Jimmy Page/Aleister Crowley documentary this morning. A _C_ onsummate _C_ onflation of _C_ oincidence, _C_ orrelation, and _C_ ausality. Also, see Jack Black's intro to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center, wherein he thanks Zeppelin for selling their souls so that humanity might "cherish their heavenly jams".) ▪ Contempt for the "D", and by "D", I mean JB's... errr... manly hydraulics, which he has the supreme capacity to summon with great focus, at times of dire need. Tsk tsk. Young women these days. No respect for "Roxic Masculinity". 🐔🤘 ▪ Missed the _actual_ theme of the movie: 🎸 " *Rock* *is* *not* *the* *Devils* *work* ! 🎸 *Its* *Magickal* *and* *rad* ! 🧙‍♂🪄 I don't think I've ever been so overwhelmed with excitement on KZbin as when I saw the link for this video. My deepest desire... had been fulfilled. 🟣 _This_ reactor. 🔴 Watching _this_ movie. ⚪ At _this_ time. Selling my soul for a reaction? It was totally worth it.
