Diana didn’t learn to speak or find her voice the way children normally do. She actually started singing as a form of speech therapy. She had a traumatic past and was abandoned at an orphanage. She had no voice at all. She started having singing lessons to help her speak and not stay mute for the rest of her life. Maybe that has something to do with the unusual quality of her voice.

More Diana please. Derniere Danse, Rechenka, It's a man's world, Blizzard, Wave, Human, With your voice, Jodel time, Cranes, Feelin Good, Me Voy, finicky Horses, Puttin on the Ritz, Helwa ya Baladi, Havana, Take on me and (Oh Darling at ten yrs old.)and there are more. Sings in Russian, French, English, Spanish and Arabic. Genres go from Pop right through to poetic interpretation. Anything really. Take your pick they are all amazing, but Rechenka is something else again, sublime performance I doubt few other singer performers could replicate live without electronic aid.(most reactors to Rechenka literally have their Jaw drop and are on video open mouthed through the whole thing.) The Show is "you are Super" for orphaned and disadvantaged kids... created by Igor Krutoy. She's the complete package plus.

Diana was 15 in this video. The contest was for children who grew up disadvantaged & without their parents. She was in foster care in a tribal area of Russia. She won the contest. She's 20 now and in Moscow performing and getting voice lessons. Her range is even better now. Apparently she started with tribal singing and even yodels. That's where she learned to make the sounds and vocal range she uses. Definitely one of a kind and a magnificent singer.

Thank you for another amazing, intelligent and entertaining analysis. The nerding out over larynxes is perfectly acceptable, especially the longing stare away from camera at Diana's throat. Totally normal. I work with Olympic athletes, and I nerd out over obscure anatomical features and physiological idiosyncrasies every day. More weirdness, please. You are delightful. I am working my way through your list of videos, and you are hitting every one of my favourite performers - Diana, Floor, Dimash, Tatiana, Morissette, .... If I had a list of requests that would introduce you to some more amazing and little-known (in some places) vocalists, it would look something like this: Kim Sohyang (South Korea): Christian Gospel singer who refuses to become a commercial success because she just wants to sing to bring joy to people. She does. My favourite is her rendition of Paul Simon's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. Strap yourself in. She is often compared to Dimash because of her versatility and range. Many people fantasize about those two having a superhuman vocal lovechild, but Sohyang is already taken. She apparently learnt English from watching Disney movies, and learnt to sing by mimicking Mariah and Whitney. She nailed it. In South Korea, I think she is Queen. Everyone loves her. Countrywomen of Morissete Amon's, Katrina Velarde and KZ Tandingan (Philippines): Katrina Velarde is a versatile belter who can access whistle tone (some days), but she also does impressions of other singers. There are three videos around of her doing impressions, (one, #3, with her munchkin, who is impossibly cute), some comical and some sublime, but my favourite of hers is an older live performance of 'Go The Distance' on the 107.5 Wish Bus, or 'Reflection'' from 'Mulan'. KZ is an 'energizer bunny', an on-stage dynamo, who sings and also raps (fast, really fast) in English or Tagalog. Her live Wish Bus performance of Lorde's 'Royals' is my current favourite, a bit jazz inspired. Very versatile. Yuko Suzuhana and Wagakki Band (Japan): Yuko does shigin-style (Japanese poetry reading + fan dancing and sword dancing) vocals with a warbling slow vibrato or yodel, and lately, more conventional Western vocals and raps with Wagakki Band - an eight-piece Japanese folk-rock / pop / metal / jazz / swing / whatever-they-want-to-be band that combines traditional Japanese folk instruments (collectively called 'wagakki') with modern rock instruments. The usual gateway drug to Wagakki Band addiction is the live 'Homura' (instrumental intro) + 'Akatsuki no Ito' (their unofficial anthem), and their first big hit was 'Senbonzakura', but my current favourite is 'Ignite' off their recent 'React' EP, which is a fast-paced punk/rap style with some shigin. A slower track to highlight Yuko's vocals is 'Izana'. They have also done collabs with Amy Lee from Evanescence, including a live performance with a full orchestra, "Symphonic Night Vol 2", where every song is spectacular, but Yuko does a duet cover with Amy of 'Bring Me To Life', backed up by Machiya (WB lead guitar). Their music videos are like visual art pieces and their live performances are better. Check out their more recent live performance videos because they have less copyright restrictions with their new label. The lead guitarist, Machiya, is also a great singer, sort of like Marco in 'Nightwish'. If there was no Floor, Marco would be a famous lead singer (and actually is/was in another band, Tarot). Similarly, if there was no Yuko, Machiya would be a famous lead singer (and actually is/was in his side project). The bassist, Asa, also sings lead in his own side project too. There is a great acoustic duet with Machiya and Asa, 'Tsuioku', accompanied by the koto player Kiyoshi, and stripped down percussion from drummer, Wasabi, on a wooden box. Lara Fabian (Belgium/Canada/Sicily) - 'Je Suis Malade' live. Lara can not be summarised. Bring tissues, (and maybe a therapist). Awe inspiring. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3jXmYl7r8Zsbbc (good quality) Saiki and Miku in Band-Maid (Japan): All-girl rock band, whose initial gimmick was that they dressed like maids, but now, seven albums later, they are just awesome. My current favourite is 'Manners', which gives both vocalists some good variety in Japanese and English, but a good live version to analyse Saiki's lead vocals is 'Freedom' (and Akane's happiest drum solo ever). Marco Hietala, the bassist from 'Nightwish' (Finland) - Raspy (or not, whatever) tenor. His signature solo acoustic song with 'Nightwish', 'The Islander', live at Tampere, Finland. "Hello crowd. You are mine now." Devin Townsend of Devin Townsend project fame (Canada) - 'Kingdom', live for EMG TV. Tenor with screaming and occasional stand-up. Solo performance with backing tracks, but there is also an older live version of DTP, which is just as good, but with lower quality, and doesn't show off Devin's singing technique as well. The female artist on the track is Anneke van Giersbergen, who is an absolute legend in the metal community and inspired many artists like Floor Jansen. She is amazing, but I haven't dived into that rabbit hole yet, because if I do, I'm afraid I may never come out again. It goes very deep. Brittney Slayes (Hayes) in 'Unleash The Archers' (Canada): Power metal band with Ah-May-Zing everyones. The usual intro into UTA awesomeness is 'Awakening' live play through, which is a master class on how to make other musicians and singers feel inadequate. The Hu Band (Mongolian): Folk metal band combining traditional Mongolian instruments and Mongolian throat singing with modern rock/metal instruments. The gateway to The Hu is usually 'Wolf Totem', which is basically a war chant with throat singing (my favourite), but the 'Sugaan Essena' studio session music video gives a much better example of both their vocal and instrumental techniques. They also do a collab with Lizzy Hale from 'Halestorm' on 'Song Of Women', which highlights Lizzy's vocals more than the Hu's. It's a good showpiece for Lizzy, who is alo a great vocalist in the rock/pop genre. You probably have a million people doing requests, but I think these give a wide variety of different vocal styles and are all also great performers for you to react to, if you choose. I'd love to see you do any of these, but Yuko and Wagakki Band haven't had much love yet because their old record label, Avex, aren't making their older videos as available to reactors, although some seem to be getting them to work. I'd love to hear how professionals like yourself react to their music.

I completely love your analysis. She is a special vocalist. Listen to Angelina Jordan who stripped it down and simplified it. Which in many ways can be more difficult then letting loose and going for it. She just has a knack of connecting with a songs essence. Sune's production of her version is outstanding. I mention AJ not to compare the two. Good luck with that, but to contrast the two. Two polar opposites of the same song. This young lady's makes me think, wow! what an amazing vocal. Angelina's makes me feel what the song is all about. Genius in it's simplicity. Both spectacular. Two different songs with the same lyrics.

Love how much you explained, how you sang certain parts to demonstrate, how you gave so much terminology & how much you love her larynx -- that is the cutest, total vocal coach love you can have I think.... Thanks for your time and comments for Diana. Yes she won this show, You Are Super, not once but twice. This performance was the semifinal for the second season she participated in. This season was comprised of winners and finalists from the 3 previous seasons. She won the year before at 14 years old. Now 17yrs old attending Gitis University in Moscow for TheraterArts/Music Voice and still performs concerts. Diana is now recording her first full album/cd to be released this spring. I saw a post that she recorded 2 songs today. She sings in her native Russian, also English, French, Spanish, German and Arabic. Wants to pursue folk rock genre but sings almost any genre as well. Natural story teller with the ability to convey the lyrics and emotions toward an audience. A true artist. Thanks again, great personality and will watch your channel.

Diana took part in this competition ("You are super") in the second season in 2018 at the age of 14, and then in the super season in 2019 and, of course, became the winner both times. The pinnacle of her performances in the second season is undoubtedly "Rechenka/River" - according to many - the best performance at vocal competitions in Russia. In the 2019 super season, she came across as a guest superstar rather than a contestant. All 7 of her performances on "You're Super" deserve watching and reaction. Believe me, there is something to be amazed and there is something to explore

Your comment about Diana's larynx "This eight wonder of the world is between her and God" have made you all the Diana's fans friend for life. I wouldn't call Rechenka the A side to 'Wicked Games' B side, but I think Rechenka is the most impressive of her performances. She walks like a shaman calling forth the spirits of nature.

Diana's voice and singing scratches that lizard brain because it is so primal and just has the ability to make you shiver and just feel things deep. The only other one that can do that is Angelina Jordan. Angie gets you deep in the heart of your soul, in your feels. Diana gets you into the core of your primal being with the way she becomes the music and the way she can manipulate her voice. Its just hard to explain.

On the screen you can see the inscription - "Live sound". All participants sing only in live voices - this is a condition of the competition. Diana perfectly knows the technique of yodel, for her voice switching as easy as breathin She is a singer with incredibly velvet contralto, the range grows with her. She is 17 years old, she knows a lot about vocals, but how many discoveries in her talent await us all in the future! The voice will grow with her. Diana continues to learn and improve. Diana has a "black belt" in vocals! This is our Russian treasure - a musical diamond! The singing of Diana is always magic, shamanism! At the vocal contest of the Russian NTV channel for children with a difficult fate “You are super!” Diana won at age 14. She sang a fragment of this song there. Two years later, the channel announced the super season of the competition. Diana participated in it for the second time and won the Grand Prix.

I follow Diana for couple of years or so and I watched reactions of many vocal couches , singers etc. I found You recently and I have to say that that You are the most genuine, professional and most importantly egoless person doing these reactions I've ever watched on the You Tube. Thank You so much for doing this reactions. I love it🌹

Thoroughly enjoyed this reaction and commentary. I'm with some other commenters here suggesting 'Rechenka', a Russian folk song from this same show. It's mystical, magical, enchanting!

And she’s 14! Ridiculous! Yeah she began her singing journey with yodeling so her voice is super laryngeal- really unique🥰

An emotional and interesting reaction. Like. I noticed a long time ago (also at this point) that Diana's larynx looks unusual. You are the first person to mention this.

I couldn’t put my finger on what I was hearing. I knew it was something my ear had heard but I couldn’t figure it out. Then when you said Shakira I said THATS IT. Just way lower but the tones and open cords . Thank you I really enjoy your channel. Really fun

Nice. Take on her mastery. The fact that you actually have done some prep on Diana speaks volumes. Wonder if you're intrigued enough to give her an encore?

Thank you for both your reaction and being a "nerd". I only heard of Диана 2 or so weeks ago performing this song, one of my favorite Chris Isaak songs. Indeed "Wicked Game" was my introduction to Mr. Isaak himself. Like Chris Диана not only does not disappoint, she gives an unbelievable performance with this amazing arrangement and her incredible voice. Part of why she has the nickname the Queen of Goosebumps! I have watched many other professional singers and voice coaches review her performance many with technical and flowery words. However none actually physically showed what they mean nor sung like Диана. To laymen your review was much more helpful to understand. You even paused the video to show Диана herself and her throat which I have yet to see before. It may seem weird, but it isn't really. And on top of that your smile and amazement just adds to the review. So thanks again for your review of an amazing performance by the Queen! ;-)
