Well Brenda, I know your not a guy, so your gonna miss about 15/16 of what's important, but there's a big difference with a short video/quick and easy, and explaining things with proper steps to do it correctly , which wasn't done in this video - hope the mansplaining helps - actual contractor

This is not real life. Real life, water valve is shot home water main valve might nit work and akways the toilet flange is rusted and needs replacing opening a new set of problems replace the pipe ( abs, cast iron who knows what lol)

You really shouldn't bother with caulk around the base of the toilet. It doesn't do much and just gets in the way if you ever have a problem.

​@@gtaatmiamiYour toilet shouldn't be leaking out of the bottom so hygiene is no reason to caulk the base. By not caulking you can catch a leak more easily

Actually michelle, caulking serves a few purposes, I helps prevents leaks if the flange or wax ring fails at any point, it also helps prevents gas vapors from the pipe to escape into the bathroom/house, and also, if your clever, if you have slight fitment issues with securing the toilet, the caulk can act as a leveler and keep the toilet from rocking due to constant use - I'd suggest if you want to comment on "man" things, maybe get a trade job to learn how things actually work before giving out opinions with no experience...The more you know...

​@@TinManOne9you're totally backwards on this one. You should never caulk the bottom of a toilet. If the flange or seal is leaking you already have a leak, by caulking it traps that water inside the base of the toilet destroying the floor underneath and hiding the leak.

Why measure the distance from the toilet to the flange? The video does not say why this is done.

Older homes (in the US at least) have a longer offset from the wall, so it's good to measure just in case

This needs to done BEFORE buying the replacement toilet. There are different offsets from the wall to the center of the flange. I think 10” and 12” are standards?

You said " use a screwdriver" to remove the upper tank - either your not a handyman or your Canadian, because that's called a socket and ratchet - also you should keep the wax in the plastic, run I under hot water to loosen it up, the adhere it to bottom of toilet for proper alignment - this ensures fitment and not having to fight the toilet to press against the flange for seating it....your not steering ppl in the right direction with half steps

Umm if you remove the pipe to the tank before tou emptied it the water in the tank will spill all over the floor. I cant comment on anything else because i stopped watching as soon as i saw that was missed.

i did exactly everything he said to do besides measure from the wall and it worked for me. step by step.
