I’ve been seeing so many creators who had “sworn off” HG, purchasing this collection. I understand you wanting to try this smaller one, of course, since it seems to be deeper but the larger palettes barely have any depth (the photos are completely off). The one that’s intended to be for deeper complexions has blushes that would work but the bronzer is radiant bronze light, which is already sold as a single and works on my fair skin… did they really think that was going to work on deeper skin tones?! Anyway, I won’t purchase from HG until they make a real effort and I still don’t see this as an effort 😬. There’s really no excuse and there hasn’t been for a while 🤷🏻‍♀️

"It's accentuating all of my sins" - screaming. Good to know this is a def no go for me because I have visible pores on my nose and cheeks and I don't need that negativity in my life either! Also, while I may eye the tiny display that's now in Ulta, I don't know that I want to buy from them still. I don't like having to practically *beg* brands to take my money when there are plenty of other places that will cater to brown skin tones. I am living for your look though! Those eyes! Those lips!! Thanks for this review Tina. I think the palette is beautiful. I tried it on my daughter who has richer skin than mine and she loved it. I completely understand though if many people feel like it’s just too little too late. The new products work for us but they might not work for everyone and companies have a responsibility to be inclusive. We all have the right to vote with our dollars. I’m willing to give Hourglass another chance because I think they are improving, but for those who aren’t willing, I don’t blame them.

Hourglass is still on probation with me. I agree this does not represent inclusion yet. Particularly since I can't use this product for its intended use either.

What shade are you, this works on NC50/fenty 420. You should watch Jamila from The Slap App channel. Also the darker shade is also a finishing powder, not a bronzer.

I have deeper skin. Not the deepest by far but I am trying this product because I have a lot of other HG products that I love. I was disappointed in the catfishing last year but I didn’t totally cancel them because the products I do own work really well on my skin tone even though they’re not necessarily marketed for me. Do they need to do better? Absolutely! But the same can be said for plenty other luxury brands, i.e. Chanel who don’t even try to put deeper skin tones in their campaigns and people flock to buy them anyway. That cream bronzer release was a prime example of blatant exclusion and tone deafness. No one said alot about that lol. Two things can be true though. HG needs to do better AND they are improving.

@@jazmeen04girl, there’s a lot lol. But the standouts are the Ambient lighting Blush in At Night..They also have a couple of cream blush sticks I like. And if you can still get your hands on the quad in Sculpture unlocked, I highly recommend that as well.

I agree with you, this isn’t impressive. It’s like another year goes by to get an attempt at deeper shades. I was suspicious with the even darker model. The jump from the II version to III is weird. Also if they just put out the deeper solo palette and don’t address the issue, they remain on my not interested in list. So much side eye at the brand 😑.

I feel like all the KZbinrs back in the day that raved about Hourglass’s finishing powders def were caught up in the hype bc just like you demonstrated in this video they accentuate so much texture!! 👀 It just looked horrible on me. I loved their loose Veil powder though…anyone have any dupes for that? (It’s so expensive for the amt of product and I’m just so over Hourglass at this point)

I think if you like a luminous look but don't want the texture accentuated, the best option is to use an HD powder to blur the texture first, then add the highlighter to specific areas of your face, not all over.

I have both the loose veil and the alternatives I'm suggesting: The Innisfree Matte moisture loose setting powder (the one in the blue packaging not the green) is *very* close, its the closest to a dupe for me. It controls oil a tad better imho. The elf halo glow powder is similar as well but is more pigmented, and I've noticed differences in the shimmer between shades. Light pink and medium are the closest where medium beige has chunkier shimmer :/ I also found the pat mcgrath under eye setting powder to have similar qualities, but also more pigmented than the HG

I know Sephora has a four pan of baked products that look like they are a dupe for some hourglass products, don't know if it would work on all skin tones. They are circle products, maybe Sephora will keep making a few of them and beat hourglass. The Sephora one is 20 and pretty new. I hate how hourglass refuses to cater to everyone with all their products, they wanna help animals (which is great) but they don't want to help people of deeper skin tone. I looked Sephora has two of the four pan pallets and then they have a baked face powder that looks like it's duping hourglass as well and it comes in 14 shades. So anyone wanting these but doesn't want to support hourglass, please look at Sephora.

I’m glad they came out with a darker shade palette but they and all brands should’ve put out deeper shades years ago. I have the first palette and I’ve had it since 2015 when I was more naive and in college (and still use the palette to this day, but that’s just between you and me). 😂 I completely used up the middle shade and the other 2 shades are like 70% gone. I’m hoping to use it all up by early next year but I don’t force myself to use products if I’m not feeling it that day.

I dont remember.. Did you set your makeup with setting powder before going in with the finishing powder? Deff fluffy brushes.. Ive also seen people use just a fluffy eyeshadow blending brush to buff just a tiny bit of the finishing powder under the eyes near the inner corner.. after its already set. Especially for oily/combo. The hg powder uses the slight light reflecting pigment to bounce light off the under-eye area which will brighten, blurs etc especially in person. Mature skin seems to look nice using the hg finishing powder to set their makeup.

tina! we are shade twins. i used the first powder as a bronzer and it was beautiful. i used a synthetic bronzer brush and packed it on and it looked like the perfect bronzer. then i deepened it with the second shade. try that out and tell me if you change your mind

I was watching this to see if the new palette would be dark enough. Well okay I though it too light but wanted to here you go off on them. I showed my husband your face with the high lighter on and he said SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE HAS NO MAKEUP ON < SHE HAS GREAT SKIN. I wanted you to receive that complement. Your Skin Girl. They still need another palette if not two. Certainly they need permanent single ambient lighting powders in extended deeper shade ranges. Much richer shades. They can do better still. Hourglass is dragging their feet… yawn. They are way way late. Btw you are looking gorgeous as per usual. Love the brick toned lip!

If it were deeper than that, I wouldn't be able to use it and am quiet darker than you, am NC50. Also I don't know why hourglass showed the model sculpting with this as these are not bronzers, these are finishing powders. It's actually too deep for your skintone I feel, because the darker finishing powder does bronze me. People darker than me can use the darker finishing powder all over their face. Personally I wish the first shade wasn't shimmery, but I guess it will be a subtle highlighter which I love. The strobe light is probably for me a very metallic highlighter. I guess a darker palette may be needed but this is dark enough for the dark skin category, maybe not all the deepest deep.

I want to pick this up. I think hourglass needs to see that we need this. So as a consumer I’m gonna purchase this as they are heading in the right direction. I feel that if we continue to right them off and they are trying them why were we complaining in the first place. They still need to do better but they are on the right track. However they need to stop saturating the promo pics 🤦🏾‍♀️. And this had better not be limited edition because rumour has it that it is. That would piss me off.

Shelf life of 12 months? Girl I have had my Hourglass volume 1 palette since it debuted in 2013, 8 years ago, and I'm still using it. I am the only user, and it's the same as it was when I bought it!

Yeah.... wop wop. Don't we all have these shades from other companies? Why would we go back at this point especially at their price point? Did hourglass think we are all forgoing bronzers, contours and highlights until they came to their senses? Like others said over it and even if I wasn't this is not going to work as intended for my black skin. Really hope you recorded this look. It is bootiful.

What I think is different about hourglass is their finishing powders. They aren't supposed to be bronzers. You can use them a bronzers if you like but thats not their function. They do have bronzers however which are not deep enough.

@@jazmeen04 I hear what you are saying but I will counter with this. Their powders are longer special. This palette has a glittery under eye power. I am going to guess most people do not want glitter in their under eye setting powder. Plus Pat McGrath has a BOMB one that I can use. The highlighter is a typical bronzy shade that most of us POCs have because that was what all these makeup companies pushed to POCs because hey there is only one shade we can wear.. right. As for the finishing powder, there are other brands like Dior I can get for that use. Bottom line is that they lost most of us with their shenanigans. They do not care about us, so I actually do not care what they do now to try to appease. I have enough of their products I will use up, but I will not beg them to cater to me so I can give them my money. If they do something truly spectacular in the future, I may revisit. Otherwise I will spend my money elsewhere. There is too much competition for me to settle.
