My Mother made this every Christmas but with a few changes. She used crushed vanilla wafers instead of graham crackers, no marshmallows, and she added chopped dates or raisins. She would make several cakes and freeze them. Also, she would freeze the left over candied fruit. Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory of my Mom. That looks so good.....My mom always made a ice box fruit cake.....But she used Vanilla wafers & cut the 3 sides from the side of the box & use it as a flap top lid & packed it back in there...Good memories !!!!!!!

I just found you and I love you both! I’ve been down with COVID since Dec 10th and then my husband got it. He’s doing great! He’s my rock after the Lord of coarse! He lost his sister to it and did not get to go to her funeral. We’ve been married for 50 years this year. I’ve got the blues today because I’m still so weak and no Christmas baking for my family. I love the blue flow china antiques. My nana had some on her walls decorating the salong when I was a little girl.. and I remember looking at them and dreaming myself away... My mom always mixed her Christmas fruit cake in the roasting pan. The same one she cooked the turkey in on Christmas Day, and we always had a really big turkey.

If you have one of the plastic cake savers like from Walmart that you keep a cake in on your counter, I’ve used the top of that before if I needed a very large bowl but didn’t have one. Just use the top of the cake saver as a bowl. Easy peasy! You and your husband are such special and kind people. And girl, I love your sense of humor. Hope you and yours have a very, merry Christmas. Been waiting on your recipe, I've always used my grandma's which is a couple ingredients different, but like you said you put what you like, but the one thing I liked about hers is she used the mini colored marshmellows to give even more color. AWESOME recipe!! I love this one too!!

I have my original recipe for that cake from way back in the 50’s. I didn’t think anyone made that anymore so very happy to see it again. I made that cake every year for Christmas. What I was a much younger woman. Have not been able to make for a long time but it sure looks good. TFS. Good memories.

Love your channel. I've made this no bake fruitcake. Years ago my recipe called for Graham crackers whole then crush them. Then you line the Graham Cracker box with wax paper, you break it done and use scotch tape then form it back and stuff it with the cake

Thank you for sharing. My mother made this every christmas since I can remember. It was my dad's favorite. My late aunt made it for my dad a few years ago. I no longer have my mom, dad, or aunt. I am the only one left to carry on this special Christmas dessert in my family. I will be making it for my son this year to carry on the tradition. God Bless and Merry Christmas!! I also have no more of my family left, i mean i have my hubby, kids and his family but my mom, my grandma, who was my entire life, and my uncle who was my father figure for my entire life since my father was a huge piece of $#%& , so i can sympathize with you. We never had fruitcake, nobody in our family was fond of it, but my grandma and mom were the best cooks ever, i really miss their cooking, i miss all the wonderful meals i grew up on. I am not a good cook like them and i dont have any of the recipes i grew up on.

I've never heard of this cake before. Hubby doesn't care for regular fruit cake, lol. His mom's tradition was to make a rum cake that had to set before eating for Christmas. My mamoe made an ice box fruitcake but instead of the cherries she used gumdrops. And sometimes added chocolate chips. Great cake cause you can add different things you like. Thank you for sharing your recipe!!

It's more like candy, but delicious. The one I remember as a child had vanilla wafers, chopped cherries, and lots of nuts. When mixed, put in loaf pan.
