I dont have a freeze dryer but I have been dehydrating blood oranges for a few years now to use in my tea blends. One of my favourite blends for winter (I am in Australia so we are going in to our cold and flu season) is mullein, sage, peppermint and blood orange, my favourite blend for summer was tulsi and blood orange, nice and simple sweetened with some raw honey

I SO love your family! Your Mom is such a sweet lady! She’s the kind of Mom we all should have! And Grandma….I’d give anything to have my grandma’s back with me! One was very Swedish and the other was VERY Tennessee! The Tennessee grandma only ever cooked on a wood stove. Her food was always incredible! The other grandma was a wonderful cook too. I miss them both! You’re so lucky to have Grandma with you! Are her seeds sprouting yet??? All my gardening now is done with either pots or GreenStalks! I’m still planting things for them! Y’all are wonderful!!! ❤

@@TheHoneystead I have incredible memories of my Tennessee Grandmas farm and then home when they moved to “town”. They finally got a real bathroom when I was about 10! You had to go outside on the porch to get to it but there was a tub and a toilet! First time I knew Tennessee had “indoor plumbing”1. I wouldn’t change my childhood with them if I could! For whatever reason, my mom never got my Grandmas recipes. She only did scratch cooking. I miss her and I miss the old house they lived in before they moved to town! NO toilets, plumbing at all, only a pump at the kitchen sink. Wood stove that she mastered at a young age….homemade butter, buttermilk, etc. Everything scratch! My mom liked mixes and easy things….I wish she had learned more from my Grandma but she didn’t, or if she did, she never shared it with me. Best biscuit recipe in the world! What I’d give to have it! I know she used lard….home rendered too! Everything was homemade. I miss “Mama” and her homemade biscuits, made every single day, her fried corn, soup that I just HAD to pick the okra out of because it was slimy (haha), fried chicken, desserts, etc…..she could cook everything with a bit of this, a bit of that and an egg sized piece of the other….no recipes, just hand measurements and everything was incredible. Now that I’m OLD, I miss not having those recipes! Mama would be so surprised that I now LOVE fried okra! She’s been gone since the late 1960’s but I miss her as much now as I did then. Cherish your Grandma while you can! She’s pure GOLD! ❤️❤️❤️

My mouth started to water when Grandma and Mom bit into the lemons. I love lemons. When I was little I would eat them like an orange. Yum! But you make things that are out of my reach. I can’t afford a freeze dryer, they are over $3,000.00 US dollars. I would only be able to make it with fresh citrus. But you own an apothecary so I can see how you need it for that. But please remember when you make these recipes not everyone has the money to buy a freeze dryer. I enjoy seeing the three generations.

You can use other methods but it requires a pump and buchner funnels... cheaper but does a similar job using more work and labor if you are doing big batches.... but gets the job done. Tyler Markwart explains (buchner funnel method by tyler markwart) this advice i have told and saved people hundreds... many of them heh

Fresh citrus is perfect!!!! The freeze dryer is an investment, but the amount of herbs and food saved has been huge!!

Regular dehydrators work almost as well, and can be reasonably inexpensive. The Nesco brand is very economical. Some ovens and air fryers even have dehydrator functions, which is how I started. Research it and see if that would work for you. Good luck.

I absolutely love hibiscus! So a little story time... when I was pregnant with my youngest son, who is now 22 yrs old, I had a very hard pregnancy & had a lot of complications with him. I came across what we call a drink Jamaica, which is kind of like a Mexican kool-aid, made from hibiscus & sugar served chilled with ice. I used to drink it every day & surprisingly, it helped calm my preterm labor for some reason. Little did I know then what an amazing herb/plant hibiscus is! I have been making ever since, & my kids & my grandchildren literally can't get enough of it! I use honey to sweeten it a bit & have several pitchers of it in my fridge at all times. I'm drinking some now, so cheers! 😁
