Talking of vaccines/shots, a friend of mine was in the Navy and was going overseas and had to get his anthrax shot. It was a series of 3 shots(from military friends explanations) and the 3rd shot caused him to have a stroke and he still suffers from it many years later. He hasn’t let it slow him down, but you can still see the effects of it from his walk, his hand, and his speech.

What Mike was talking about around 1:11:00 is exactly one of the issues I have. In no way am I suicidal or anything like that, I enjoy my life but so often I’ll be driving and I’m just in my head like all it takes is me yanking the steering wheel real quick straight into a pole or straight off the edge of a cliff or into the oncoming traffic and it’s like you have to talk yourself out of doing it. The crazy thing is that I would never actually do it but it’s just thoughts you get in your head realizing what you are doing at the moment is important and it takes a lot of responsibility even if it’s something as simple as driving because it truly doesn’t take much to crash or someone lose their life from driving. I’ve heard Jim Carrey talk about it too, idk what it is but I’ve always had those thoughts just run through my head often during certain situations.

Out of all the helicopter rides I had taken in my lifetime it was really cool seeing that Palm Pilot strap to the Pilot's leg.. I thought that was the coolest thing I'd ever seen throughout my entire tour other than meeting the Special Forces..

45..you're 1 year older than me..the 1 thing I love about including my past influence was judo..I love taking the fall correctly..I thought the military did nothing but push-ups and ran.. that mostly turned out to be the truth just because I was following my gut feeling.. but all the training that I received even with the headaches created a world environment that I will never forget real world.. I was ready to join the military at 10 years old that's how anxious I was.. I even received some martial arts training from an Special Forces Vietnam veteran.. I believe that to be invaluable..

Mike, when it comes to civilian training that combines grappling and weapons retention and deployment in extreme close quarters, train with Craig Douglas (Shivworks). Also Cecil Burch (Immediate Action Combatives) combines Jiu-Jitsu with close quarters weapons use and retention.

I think it's great to see what happens when people create on the basis of giving back and raising up community. The outcome of the investment seems so further reaching and impressive. I also love that you touched on layers of person security and accountability. This segment on training touched on crazy reality for me personally. I recently had a situation of a road rage scenario with an intoxicated man who ran me near off the road. While calling in to 911 and meeting up behind this guy at a red light, jiu-jitsu gave me the ability not to use my appendix carry glock when I was forced to exit my blocked in vehicle and not risk being trapped in it dealing with him as a threat. The law enforcement response was astounding, even being armed and not using it. The justification process, even in self-defense, was eye-opening. Feeling I was justified even to go lethal force, then giving a pass to this gentleman was not as clear cut from the LEO standpoint. What makes sense tactically is, in reality, not always in line with the legal system. In reality, the choice fell on being alone in the vehicle rather than my wife or kids being in the vehicle with me. Had they been me going to lethal force, not risking losing the confrontation and leaving them at the whim of a clearly unbalanced and intoxicated attacker would of taken the choice away from me, in my opinion. I think on the format subjects poised to Andy by Mike on transcrition etc. also, is great. Our veteran communities experience violence, I feel at some point there should be curriculum for the civilian world to counter say Hollywood with reality. Maybe perhaps at the high school level. Perhaps it sounds odd, but I feel a lot of violent phenomena in our culture are due to a lack of understanding of the subject. Especially as people apply long-term solutions to short-term problems.

Mike, my Dad is nearly 80 and has 18 year's experience as an SF and 4 as a Ranger. Actually started 2nd Ranger Battalion. He has very rarely spoken about his personal experiences. He is from that old school mindset that you don't talk about it. I'm gently trying to nudge him about his experience. I am so afraid all of his experience will die off with him. I see it the same as you that the history would be lost with him and it just kills me. If anyone has any advice of how to help shift his mindset which feels impossible. He recently told me he was a Lone Survivor. My fucking blood went cold knowing this. He said he was in some old Vietnam books, I would LOVE to find those books but he won't tell me which books.

I think the static training is very complimentary to our society because we have the means to do it.. safely conducting training boarding and exiting a helicopter is not very extensive but you can complete the training exercise Within 4 hours.. or less that's just my opinion and from experience

I drank one night before the next workday in the military..I decided to go for a late night walk..I finally found a road that had streetlights half mile apart..I began fast walking, just short of an airborne shuffle.. my lower extremities were sore not only for PT the next morning but for the next three days I was crying.. so for those people who think that fast walking looks funny and haven't tried it.. I suggest you humanize yourself..lol

I have had what looked like an enemy combatant but wasn't carrying a weapon smiling at me in a creepy fashion.. I also went on a night Patrol in Iraq and I was the Gunner using an infrared on a SAW.. we were on patrol to seek out and destroy these combatants that had hijacked vehicles and weaponry that we had given them to defend their country and they were portraying themselves as friendlies.. that was a creepy experience
