I sell when I have better stocks to buy, else just keep it there no matter whether it rise or fall. This had helped me overcome the fear that time in Mar 2020.

Very good advice and one of the best strategies I have seen on KZbin channel. Most financial KZbinrs only teach you to buy for long term and never teach you when to sell or cut loss. It take a lot of sincerity and humility when you shared that you had to cut lost of your past investments as the fundamental of the stocks changed or errors made. Keep up the good work guys !

Rusmin's &Victor's prinicple in share is the same as mine. Essentially it is buy when they are down & sell when they 're up. But they must be fundamentally sound or better, very sound. It's very important that you 've to keep checking the fundamentals. As important is holding power. The rich becomes richer because they've holding power. Great advice especially for young people starting out on their investment journey. Time is on their side so patience and homework is key. I'm an "old hand" now in my 60s and semi retired so I've seen it all - the AFC, GFC, Covid etc. UOB and SGX were my best buys and they pay good dividends. I will not sell these. Keppel less good but hopefully they're on the road to recovery. DBS too which I got a couple of lots during COVID around $18. Regretted not getting more but as they say you can't win 'em all!!

Great point indeed. Question: What happens when there is a panic sell for example now with the Ukraine and Russian War. Would it be wise to sell off your convicted position and re-enter the market when the panic has settles down? Or would it be better off just taking the loss and wait for it to rebound?

I agree with MS that you guys speak from the heart. This is what impresses me too. It is unlike a brokerage that keeps guiding you to trade at $25 min. per trade. If you don't, they keep reducing the data until you are left with the buy & sell option. This is a clever- by- half way. A carpenter from Galilee teaches that what is covered will be uncovered. Have been watching, enjoying and learning from ur videos. Good job. Can you do a video on the cause of the fall of futu and up fintech shares price. Ur views on the regulations which caused the fall. Thank you
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
The reason for the fall is due to a new law that will regulate the export of personal data, posing a challenge to online brokers that provide cross-border trading services to mainland Chinese citizens (i.e. Futu and Up Fintech). It's still unclear how the new law will be enforced and affect Up Fintech and Futu's online brokerage services.

Any advice for potential high growth stock like Tesla where they are fundamentally sound and huge growth potential based on their vision. However they are relative expensive in terms of PS ratio. So how to gauge to sell or not if the stock suddenly fall due to overvalue? Is it wise to sell despite a promising future?
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brandon, this will go back to your investment thesis and the reason why you invested in Tesla in the first place. Did you invest in Tesla because you're confident of its future growth potential? Or did you invest in Tesla because you're looking to profit from its stock price movements? If it's the first reason, why would you sell if Tesla's stock price falls from a peak in the short term? (Assuming you still believe its growth story and long-term fundamentals remain the same.)

In the case of hospitality REITs Covid has changed the fundamentals of this market over the past 2 years. Given that the share prices have already declined and also the dividends, is it better to take the loss and sell or hold, with the hope that the demand side of the market will pick up? We're seeing travel related stocks start to pick up so should we expect (hope) the same for hotels. Your thoughts?
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
This depends on your time horizon and opportunity cost. Will travel demand eventually return to pre-pandemic levels? Yes, IATA projects that to happen by 2023/24. Are you comfortable waiting for that period? Or would you prefer recycling your capital to a different investment idea? www.channelnewsasia.com/business/scoot-global-aviation-recovery-covid-2023-iata-1936336

Thank you for the information. Really appreciate it!! Why and when to sell a stock for me is equally important as buying the stock. Why some stocks have low volume although I found that they have great value. I don't really understand liquidity as I'm new to investing. And is there any solution to the problem?
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Liquidity is a function of public float (outstanding shares in the market) and the number of people trading the stock.
@GammunG3 жыл бұрын
@@TheFifthPersonChannel I see.. Is there anything company can do to solve liquidity problem in stocks?

Assuming there is adequate public float, a company can create awareness among investors to drum up interest in its stock (investor relations) and by performing well; a successful company will always attract investors.

Out of curiosity, on the flip side, will there be any reason(s) to sell a stock when the dividends are yielding well (considering that fundamentals are solid)? I'd imagine that the only time that is ever reasonable is if you need the funds in an absolute emergency?
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
That really depends on your financial goals. If the stock price has gone up extremely high and you prefer to lock in a few years of dividends upfront, you could consider selling (or maybe sell to cover your principal). But if you're investing for dividends, you can hold onto the stock (assuming fundamentals remain solid) and continue receiving the passive income.

I am a new investor and I always thought that I am a extremely high risk taker. I invested all the fund into tiger broker shares and now i lost around 70%. I have read and study a lot that I should not panic sell during crisis but the price has been dropping by 10-20% each day. At first I kind of used to the drop but the shares price hit below what I didn’t expected, it make me worried now. Even through China economy is not doing well but president xi is not stopping on the crackdown, what would you do in my position other than average down. I wouldn’t want to sell at a big lost, should I hold it for years till shares price back to normal?
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
Hi XiangWei, that's the risk when you go all in on one stock; a big drop hurts a LOT. But if, for example, you had 10 stocks equally weighted in your portfolio, one stock dropping 70% would be a much more manageable 7% dent. Tiger Brokers is in a growing but competitive industry. Many brokers are currently lowering prices and throwing freebies to gain market share. Are you comfortable investing 100% of your portfolio in a company in this industry? Are you confident of Tiger Broker's market position in the industry 3-5 years from now? Let's also say you start all over with whatever amount you have now ($10K for example). Moving forward, would you rather own $10K worth of Tiger stock? Or would you rather own a $10K portfolio of Tencent/Alibaba/Amazon/Google stock? We hope these questions give you more clarity, and help with your decision.

Going by the gist of the discussion; if no major fundamentals has shifted for the company, u should hold instead is selling at a 70% loss. I m in the same shoes as u and I have averaged down from $16 all the way to $7.90 and I believe that it will recover in 1-2 years . But well that’s just my opinion and u have to go your DD when it comes to investing. All the best in your investing journey.
