@@TheFilipinaPea sounds good. Some people need to hear these stories multiple times before they learn. Its also good to get your perspective on things from a filipina's point of view. Something might seem like its obviously bad because of the stereotype of gold digger girls but your insight can explain why its not necessarily the case.

It does not make sense to avoid marrying a western woman because of a high body count, only to go to the Philippines to marry a bar girl.

Bar girl or not. When a military man gets married, there is NO guarantee it will work out. I have been married three times. The first was a black American woman. She became very ill and the illness took her life. After several years alone, I fell for another black American woman. This one, I divorced after 18 months. When I arrived in the Philippines and was sent to Thailand during the Vietnam War. I was given a choice between being returned to the US or taking a tour of duty in the Philippines. I was very, very tired of dealing with American women. Even those, not American-born had picked up those hard-to-deal-with Americanised women's demands and habits. I selected the Philippines. I stayed (here) in the Philippines. until the war was over. Best years of my military life. I was getting close to my retirement date and was "ordered" back to the US, leaving my Filipina live-in girlfriend behind. After arriving back in the US, I was determined to get back to the Philippines. Being that there was no chance, I sent for my Filipina to come to the US. When I first meant her, she was a "bar girl" After I had to leave her, she went back to her life as a bar girl. She had no other choice. We were married in Elco in 1981. I retired in 1983. I HAD SOME RUN-INS WITH JODY! Sniffing around my house when I was at work during my last two years in the military. I EVEN HAD ONE COMPLAIN TO ME ABOUT SHE WOULDN'T SPEAK TO HIM. I set him down on the seat of his pants. When I retired, my wife and I went to visit my mother. My mother fell in love with her. When I told my mother, I had decided to go live in the Philippines, the whole family turned on me. I stood my ground. On Easter Sunday 1983, back in the Philippines, her family showed me the same love my mother show my wife. And I've never left the Philippines since that day. I'm 78 years old now and she is 64. I never thought I would be this happy during my lifetime! Sorry if some things I said here are confusing, but it is all true. I love this lady! 💕💕💕💕💕with all my heart!

I met a Filipina bar girl in Hong Kong. I was suffering badly with the prostate by the time we got back to my room and I just threw everything down on the table and disappeared into the bathroom. When I came out she was holding my wallet up before my face. "Now listen," she said "don't leave your wallet hanging around like that, some girls will just run off with it!" What a nice girl. 😊

I'm a retired US Navy Sailor. I spent a LOT of time in Olongapo, the Barrio Barretto, and Subic City and my experience with the bar girls was a mixed bag. I can say that there are girls that I knew who I would love to see again. They were good people in a bad situation and I hope that living that life did not harden their hearts too much. There are other ladies who I hope to God that I never see ever again. A quick story. One day I was sitting in a jeepney in Olongapo headed to Subic City with some shipmates. At the last minute, another Sailor and an absolutely breathtakingly beautiful Filipina jumped onto the Jeepney with us. This guy was in seventh heaven. I have never ever seen anyone so happy. He told us that he had just married the "love of his life" and was ecstatic. He really was. Right around this time, I felt something on my lower leg and when I looked down, this guy's "love of his life" was rubbing her foot up and down my leg. I looked up and her stunningly gorgeous eyes drilled into my soul. This rubbing was definitely not by accident. I've thought of this often and wonder how long it took before this woman tore this guy's heart out of his chest and stomped on it. That incident about summed up the PI for me. I decided then and there that I would be friends with these beautiful women, but I would never marry one. Friends of mine did get married to bar girls. Some worked out. Others turned into nightmares.

@@TheFilipinaPea I was stunned. I had no idea what to do frankly. I could have said something to the guy and maybe I was wrong not to say anything, but I just couldn't bring myself to destroy that moment for him. And if I had said something to him, do you think he would have believed me? They were married. The initial damage was done. We both know that he probably found out very soon after. In some ways, I don't understand how, if she was acting this way with me RIGHT AFTER THEIR MARRIAGE, that he didn't see the warning signs before. Love is blind I guess.

Sweet Pea. During my military time in Bangkok I knew hundreds, maybe thousands of bar girls. I got to know many of them well, visited their homes, and even met some parents. As with any group of people some were total trash. Others were seemingly normal. Some were desperate to support their families back home in the provinces. All were people and to be treated with respect UNTIL they proved not worthy of same. All that said, a warning for your writer, An old saying which in my opinion and experience has proved true, even decades later. "You can take a girl out of the bar, but you'll never take the bar out of the girl."

Sometimes I think we overuse the world beautiful. Yeah it's in the eye of the beholder. But you are not going to meet Ms Philippines in a bar that is full of older westerners. THEY will be in a HiSo Filipino bar or the Casino catering to Korean or Chinese high rollers. ha ha there ARE very well off upper middle class and rich Pinoy's that scoop up the"beautiful young" women. Pinays know a handsome guy by international standards. They have access to all the same media that that girl that ignored us at a bar in New York does. As for my self, "cute" goes a long way in my estimation and preferences. It's impossible sometimes to know who worked in a bar in Asia. Many girls dabble. Even in the West I went to one of the most prestigious Ivy League schools in the Northeast and I knew some girls who went to work in bars because they were curious, and have a wild side. Yes there are bad people. But there are good folks everywhere.

I've met some bar girls that want nothing more than to get out of the bar. I do think you can make it work with those girls. But you need to let them quit the bar on their own terms and have the resources to take care of them. The "party" girls who love going to work and playing the game....they are definitely fun, but not relationship material.

From someone who has lived many years in Angeles City and visited many many bars there. I would say that a sizable portion of the bar girls are in Angeles because they were abused in the province by fathers, brothers, uncles etc. I am amazed at how well adjusted they are after hearing the accounts of horrible province life. Others are there because of desperation. Things like making only 3 dollars a day by making charcoal but only when it is not raining. Some of these woman are so kind, so loving and so very easy to talk too. If you show these girls a little kindness they are so grateful and fun beyond belief. It is a journey worth exploring.

@@horseshoe2blah201 I was stationed at Yokota in the E&I squadron. Had a guy in our shop that was friends with the owner of the DMZ. He kept asking me to go there with one morning for the "pep talk". So I finally went one day. I think it was about 1000 hrs. All the guys were required to show up and he would have them standing in line. He would walk back and forth in front of them giving his spiel about "I don't care how old they are, how ugly they...blah blah...if they pay your bar fine...you're going to fuck them"! He was really funny. I loved the decor there. How about the Vampire club? I went back in 2003 down to Fields Ave....what a change from the 80's. You wouldn't now it was the same place. There were a couple of good places to eat right on Fields, there was a Mexican place, plenty of food and cheap, there was a Thai run by a GI and his Thai wife. I live in Lipa in Batangas now, very nice golf course community, quiet, no dogs or roosters.

An associate has been a long time resident of Angeles City. After Yolanda in 2013, a large number of young women moved to Angeles (or Manila or Cebu) to find work. Some had no living family members. Most had lost their homes and jobs, as you can't be a sales clerk in a store that no longer exists. Good girls in an extremely stressful situation. If a guy can learn to listen in the Philippines, he can find diamonds anywhere. But not all male visitors to the Philippines are good listeners. My last day in the Philippines, a complete stranger to me started screaming curses my way. I asked my lady friend, who explained. He was an extremely wealthy Canadian, who thought he could buy anything. As it turns out, some people are not for sale. And a lesson: Facebook isn't private, and reveals character. So, respect and kindness.

It's like we Americans saying that Las Vegas is a mirror image of the USA. No way. Speaking of STDs, they used to sell a drug in the pharmacies in the PI called Trobicin which was supposed to cure your STD. Guys bought it cause for some reason they didn't want their command to find out they had the clap. Its nickname was "The Breakfast of Butterflies!" My wife was a bar girl many years ago. Not all bars allow the girl to be bar fined thankfully but they are still required to dance on stage with minimal clothing and talk to men who buy them drinks. She was tricked into being a bar girl at 17 by being offered a job from the province to work in Manila. The job description was nothing like she was told it would be but she had no money. They even gave the girls nose jobs to put them in debt so they could not leave. She hated every second of it but had no choice whatsoever and all the girls working there were in the same situation. Can it work? Yes. Do a lot of them cheat and scam? Yes, many of the girls lose themselves eventually working in those places.

My big problem with the bar girl situation is that you never met this girl. I understand all these people meeting women on dating websites, but falling in love with someone you never met? I'll never understand that. Why doesn't anyone take the time to spend time with these women you are meeting online in the Philippines first? What's the hurry to fall in love and get married? This is why all these scams we hear about work... Impatience and letting your emotions overcome simple logic. I personally lived in the Philippines for a year, spent 9 months dating and then living with my future wife, before we decided to marry. While there, I met a lot of other married couples (Western man, Filipina woman), and NONE of them fell in love online then met and married. 100% of the couples I met spent a LOT of quality time together first (MORE than a week or two)... many met online, but they all met in person within the first 6 months of chatting online. MOST of the men and Filipinas wanted to live in the Philippines. Most, not all, of the men did not send money before meeting their Filipina. I'm not saying it can't work if you fall in love online without meeting, but your odds of success are so much higher if you do things properly, and by properly I mean 1) Don't send money before you meet, 2) Don't fall in love before you meet, 3) Meet as soon as possible to insure it's reality not fantasy, and 4) spend as much time physically together as is possible for your situation. While I don't think 2 weeks is enough, if that's all the time you can afford then that is better than 0 weeks. Finally, before you get emotional about someone you met in an online dating website or online... go back and watch Pea's videos.

You're absolutely right about the fact that being a bar girl is more of a financial issue in South East Asia. I met one bar girl who explained to me that before she worked in a bar, she worked in a food court in a mall. She worked very long days and only had 2 days off per month. She confessed that as a bar girl, she could make the same amount in just a few days, as she did in the mall in an entire month. If I were born into a poor family in Asia and those were the options in front of me, I would probably be a bar girl too. At least when you're a bar girl you have some money and time to get yourself through college. Had she stayed in the mall, she would have spent the rest of her life there, serving food.
@martypoll

They do make more money in the bar but they often send most of that money back to their families. They seldom spend it on themselves. That is what makes bar girls in SE Asia unique.

I'm in my 50s now. One thing I've learned in my life is that whenever I would go out to a club or a bar is don't bring my wallet with. Leave it in a safe place in your car or even at home. Just bring some cash with but not a lot and maybe an identification if you think you need it. Just put in as much money in your pocket as you think you would be willing to lose in one day if that happens. Because going back to your house or going back to your car is going to give you time to think about what the hell you were just going to spend a bunch of money on😅. Sometimes I spread the money around a little bit in different pockets so I don't pull all the money out at one time. Even that little tiny pocket on the right hand side of your pants above your big pocket is a good place to store little extra cash or a rubber😊

@@TheFilipinaPea I have helped her some. I haven't supported her. I didn't want her to go back to the Middle East to work, simply because how rough it looked on her when we first started chatting. Her stress on her face, changed immediately when she landed in the Philippines and called me. She wasn't faking. I did send money ONCE before we met. We chatted one time and she was trying not to but was crying. Her parent's house had been knocked down by a typhoon, and she couldn't get ahold of them. So, we talked daily, and after she talked to them 5 days later, I quizzed her. She was going to send 3 months of her salary, as she earned it to pay for the materials her Dad needed to rebuild. I pressed her hard about amounts needed, her salary, etc. So, I told her to send one month, and give me her mother's information, and I voluntarily sent the rest at the same time. A few months later, I was standing in the Province, in front of her father, and he was teary eyed, and asked my fiancé to translate, and asked me if he could hug me, and then took me around to show me specifically what upgrades he had done with the house. The first time I visited, a typhoon hit the first afternoon I was there. I saw the devastation first hand. Every house on the street her parents lived on collapsed except for 3 others that were concrete. He had built a T wall in the middle of his home, out of concrete, and supported the rest of the house from that wall. It withstood a typhoon for the first time he said. So, 2 days before returning home on a trip when I was there, I had a stroke sitting beside my fiancé at mass. Her family, all of them, got me to the hospital, then drove me to another hospital in a big city in Eastern Samaar. The Hospital here, told me that they saved my life. So, her family and I are close now, and I feel like her and I meeting was meant to be, and anyone that tries to talk me put of that, let's just say, I won't spare their feelings

My wife today is from the Philippines 🇵🇭 and not a bar girl but she was from a strict family but she gets along with the older Ate’s. After 2 marriages to American women I would recommend a Pinay, even from a bar. I met one back in the 80s that I would have pursued when my ship 🚢 pulled in but did not due the stigma 😢

Back in the day it was a different world than today. Many of the young ladies came to work in the clubs to make money but also in the hopes of meeting a great guy for a serious relationship. It used to be about a 70/30 split, you had about a 30% chance of a good relationship. You had about a 70% chance that the girl was all about the money and foolin' around partying. Saw a lot of broken hearts but I also saw some marriages that lasted a lifetime. Yes, a high risk of failure but it wasn't completely hopeless. Nowadays....yeah, it's a different time and a different world.

Never to rush to find love always taking your time finding the right partner. You are responsible for your own happiness with no regrets. In reality I think all the subscribers want others to find true happiness in life. Stay safe thinking with the right head with a brain instead of the smaller one. I think you are right on target with the last one regarding "professional women". IMO, it is not the body count itself. It is what damage that life usually does in the areas you point out - trusting and bonding with a man, and definitely an "unhealthy view of men". That is where the damage of that lifestyle takes hold...on both sides of it! But I personally have high regard for those that recognize that, work at changing their options, and can make the transition back into the person they want to be rather than the one that world creates. I sincerely wish her (and him) the best...it can work if they remain open, honest, and supportive of each other.

Hey Pea, great episode. FYI, "Long Duc Dong" is the name of an exchange student in the movie 16 Candles. 1980's Brat Pack classic. I can't believe you haven't seen it with your great movie knowledge. I'm sure you'd love it. 😃

@the Filipina Pea & @Rick Hanson : the actor who played Long Duk Dong has stated that Asian men / boys of our generation tell him they are DISPLEASED about Long Duk Dong. I’m not certain that particular “Letter to Pea” wasn’t a trolling thing: the “oh No !!” parts are soooooo egregious. But, maybe not. I’ve discovered that it can be easy to fall for a fib when you wish it were true. (And that’s true for dudes wishing they could meet a cool, pretty, foreign girl, & it’s also true for young, cool, pretty, Filipina girls who wish that Auntie saying “I’ll get you a good job and a good hubby in Canada for only 1 year’s pay”… they get scammed, too. The “wishing it were true” really messes with our judgement & critical thinking.

One of the things I used to tell guys in Korea, "If you wouldn't date/marry a girl that worked in a strip club in the US, why would you do it here?" Not sure about there, but in the US it's all about drugs, money, promiscuity, and s@x for sale. I know very few that did this, in the US or other countries, that it worked out for.

@@TheFilipinaPea I am married to a girl I met in a bar in Angeles City, she did it because both of her parents had tuberculosis and couldn't work... and her siblings were all still at school. She tried working in a supermarket, and even sending every peso she made home, it wasn't enough. She had no choice but to go and work in the bar if she didn't want to see her family die. An absolute superstar and the nicest person you could wish to meet.

Hello Pea , interesting bar girl story , we all need that second chance but the guy should just go to the Philippines and see first hand what he is getting into, you and I both know about the scams , my advice to any man is to go to the Philippines before you part with any money. Thank you Pea I wish you a Happy Easter with your friends and family take care .

Some people more than others just don’t notice the red flags when love is in the air. It’s unfortunate but human nature is what makes these scams so profitable.

I transferred to North Island Naval Air Station San Diego in '76, with Mrs. Rick and I being married for two years. I was a young 3rd Class, with a beautiful young Filipina at my side. Everyone, especially the Filipinos in the Navy community, assumed that she was a bar girl pickup. It almost broke her heart the way many folk treated her with their bigotry. She's always been a somewhat private person who believes that her business is her business, and not anyone elses. That is why she never told anyone she had just been discharged from active Navy duty before we transferred, and was at that time serving as a 2nd Class Petty Officer in the Navy Reserves. More than a few of them were quite shocked when they saw her in her Navy uniform. 😁
