Actually it's the opposite. Lauren Wasser recreated Kylie's controversial photo shoot and decided to put a positive spin on it. Kylie got a lot of heat for the cover photo, but it was for portraying ableism as "fashion" and for the magazine choosing to use Kylie instead of an actual disabled model. Anyhow, Wasser's decision to capitalize on it was an effort to garner media attention and spark a conversation, which wouldn't have happened if not for Kylie being problematic as usual.

I just had a long conversation with the parent of a 17 year girl who said that if her daughter didn't go to college in the Fall, she could gtfo of her house. This 17 year old girl would fall straight (and immediately) into poverty and homelessness if her mom "cut her off". My mom never gave me a cent when I was growing up but I was still good because she was still feeding, housing, paying for my transportation, and medical insurance. my immigrant parents say that individualism culture is a big reason why many americans are so poor, even when historically they had a bit more access to making money than people in other countries did. Having to be on your own paying for food/housing, child care/elder care, and other things leaves such a big dent financially. I met a girl in undergrad who was struggling financially to pay for school bc she didnt get financial aid due to her parents making too much. Allegedly they did not give her a dime to pay for school, which if it's true baffles me how there are higher income people who don't pay for things like their child's education and would rather leave them in debt to prove some weird point about independence.

@@peepit9327 unfortunately there too many people out there that fall under the "make too much to get assistance but not enough to not need it" category and with tuition being what it is, even people who say they are middle class (who most likely aren't but we need to keep in mind that identifying as middle class is an identity that many people take on) are having to face up to the reality that they just can't pay for their kids higher education in full. Personally I would pay for my kids school if i could but make it clear that I won't be financially responsible for them once they graduate and start working. I'm not sure at whose feet or which's institution to lay blame for the misunderstanding of feminism, a troubling development in the past let's say ten-fifteen years, as an ideology that is about uplifting the social status and class of a woman or that whatever a woman does is inherently feminist. The latter understanding is particularly irritating since there have been and continue to be numerous women who have no support for a feminist lens or political platform. The former is troubling because feminism is a specific theory, one that at the time and since, is radical. It is about looking at life through the lens of gender and sexuality and understanding how power operates along those lines. Read some Judith Butler, bell hooks, or Betty Friedman, or Lauren Berlant.

Dr Gary (New York city plastics) estimates the cost of all procedures at the end of his videos about what procedures celebrities have had done. The cost estimates are STAGGERING. I think the Jennifer Lopez one is in the ballpark of 400k. It would be so interesting for you guys to do some sort of collab.

I've never bought a single thing from these people, *and I never will.* Only my most insecure friends managed to fall for their marketing, and it's actually very sad. I choose to believe that these women are just unaware of the people they are exploiting, from manufacturing all the way to the end customer, because anything else would just be the embodiment of today's standard capitalist *evil.* I hate it here!

Is there a web award for best imitation of a Kardashian's voice? Chelsea would gonna sweep the category! 🤣

I get scared when I hear that slim thick isn't going to be popular anymore. I'm fortunate to look that way naturally. It was really hard to look like that in the 90's and early 2000's when it wasn't a good thing to be curvy. I was happy when my body type became popular. But now that it isn't, I think it sucks. My body type isn't a trend. It's my body.

That body type has been and still is praised among minorities, even before the Kardashians came around.

There will always be men to appreciate your body type. Just as there will always be men to appreciate super skinny, super fat and in between. There’s a lid for every pot.

I haven't seen any of the "are the Kardashians feminist" articles but I'd like to see more stuff like that. I don't think I look in the right places online to find interesting discourse. Can anyone recommend any good websites or publications that I could start looking at to see more interesting material that I'm missing out on? Thank you!

The only things that I know about Kylie Jenner is that 1) she's a "self made" billionaire, 2) she publicly called out her sister Kim for publicly bullying & abusing Kylie's best friend Jordyn when Kim was 38 years old, and f-ing near middle age while Kylie & Jordyn were barely 21 years old, and 3) she seems much more mature than the older ones

I'm Gen X and I always thought feminism was about choice and the freedom to make them. The work was done to have freedom from discrimination, being held back, be a housewife or a CEO, or both. While the intersection of race and feminism is a whole other discussion, it was simpler when the idea was to "step back and watch her go".

It s funny to see how people can t even start to conceive that there is a concept that s called learning from the inside out....not many understand that yet...It means that instead of looking at others and comparing yourself to others ...A woman who will become sucessful and happy is one who decides for herself what is good for her, what she wants in life and how she wants to look at any given moment. The K..live their life and created their life with what they had. Comparing yourself to them is a lost cause that will bring only frustration...Teaching young girls to think for themselves and not succumb to all the social pressure that is put upon them ...and to just become themselves in every way ...that is such a concept that social media is not yet able to project
@samanthamalmberg73392 жыл бұрын
i agree with most of her points and that framing this family as one that exemplifies feminism is not beneficial for the movement. however, it is equally problematic to focus on one female capitalistic empire without videos also focusing on male ruled empires as well. the kardashian family gets more flack than any other wealthy male dominated spaces from female social media creators. that in itself is a sad reality for women entrepreneurs

Something else to note (commenting one year later lol) is the Kardashians influence on fast fashion I.e. fashion nova, boohoo, pretty little things etc making direct copies of Kim’s outfits creating an opportunity to cosplay as a Kardashian

Also I just want to clarify that I don’t think anybody sympathized with Scott doing that to that waiter, I know he got IMMENSE backlash from viewers. It was probably one of his worst scandals because I think that was the same episode that he broke the mirror in the hotel room too

Video Request: Could you make a video about "bhad Babie" Danielle Bregoli (The "Catch me outside"-girl) who recently earned 52!Million with her Onlyfanss-account as soon as she turned 18? And what impact this might have on young girls

Didn't she live at home when the make up business start? If Kylie was truly cut off at age 15, shouldn't her parents have gone to jail for negligence? Aren't parents who have children living with them legally obligated to support their children until age 16 or 18? Wacka-doddle!
