Hi John. From watching your videos I know you are very mindful of the ecosystem, take care of the wildlife and so on. I think what you do is the essence of sustainable fishing and have zero issues with it. But I know my sister (shark conservationist/fanatic) would have a fit if I showed her this. The fact that sharks are promptly returned with nothing more (I imagine) than a fright would certainly not appease her! I wonder: what could one say to someone like that besides "oh they're fine, grow up!"? :-D Thanks for all your videos which are a joy to watch.

I remember about 1984 (I know 🤦♂️) I was fishing off amble with my carbon fibre rod and lovely scarboro reel. Huge jiggers king rag. The lot. Bring on the giant cod. A huge bite pulled the lot out my inexperienced hands and I watched a 70 foot shark 🦈 swim off with it. Luckily the shark went one way the gear went the other way to the bottom. Need to stop these commercial fishing vessels pillaging the seas around our coast! I find it disgusting that EU are allowed to just rape the sea, they even are allowed to catch Bluefin Tuna by the thousands of tonnes... yet we can't keep a single fish? Something drastically wrong with that scenario! "Since 2016 the EU share of the international quota for bluefin tuna has increased by 73 per cent from 11,200 tonnes to 19,360 tonnes" newspaper article quote.... then you get this for us in the uk.. legislation, the country does not have quota for eastern bluefin tuna and no commercial U.K. vessels are authorized to land catches of this stock. Any bluefin tuna caught by any U.K. vessel must be returned to the sea, alive and unharmed to the greatest extent possible.

John - At 08:40 you were giving a discourse on the use of a wire leader but my fishing experience in the Mexican Gulf our of Venice, LA, indicates that there are several Pelagic species in that area that will not take a wire leader. Is the same in your Cornwall area? I have several theories, one of which is sharks can detect [taste if you will] the wire through their sensory systems but not other species. What say you?

Last two years there's been a lot of sharks off falmouth, we could often spot them on the surface as we drifted over wrecks, not seen many this year, suspect it has something to do with the lack of mackerel, although last weekend there was a lot of white bait shoals and loads of tiny mackerel about, really struggled to find mackerel this summer, strange.
