Great video, I realise this is an old video now and your definitely far more experienced than I am but a little tip for your shallow float setup, when I fish shallow like this with a float I take an old set of feathers and cut them down so there is only 3 of the hooks left, and I just slightly weight the bottom of the trace with a big split shot, has worked a real treat!

If you bait elastic some cotton wool onto your hook and dip it in fish oil if possible, you can also use a small strip of mackerel it works really well for garfish. Gars have narrow beaks and many rasping teeth. They get their teeth tangled in the cotton wool and it really helps with hook ups.

As you are putting most of the fish you catch back, have you considered not using a two hook rig where there's more possibility of deeply gorged hook that you might have difficulty disgorging the lower hook like you had with the ray, possibly badly damaging the fish getting it out or leaving the hook behind? I was glad that you got got the lower hook out. That said I love your enthusiasm and your love of the fish.
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 3 жыл бұрын
I find that when compared side by side the number of deep hooking cases when using just using singles favours the pennels. The top hook catches the mouth so the second is never swallowed very far. Whereas a single can sometimes go all the way down. But a good question well put. 👍🏻😊

@@TheFishLocker yes i feel the very same way. My goal in life was to win the lottery and by a 50ft boat and every Sunday take kids out fishing" totally free of charge."and teach them how to fish." Rather than them hanging around causing bother somewhere. Just enough to cover my diesel cost and to help replace lost fishing gear. Yes I suppled 8 boys with fishing rods, reels and tackle as well. My back is completely done in now. The Fish Locker Now I’ve been fishing since the sixties and in those days any fish under 11 pounds was a codling, indeed the very first fish I caught was 12 pounds. 20 years later I caught a 25 pounder, none of us knew that one day fish of this calibre would almost non existent, we should all have known better. Nowadays I catch good numbers of bass, smooth hounds and ray, I maybe keep 3 or 4 for the season and return everything else, but even now I see people take a dozen skate or smoothies home. Looks like we’ve still got a lot to learn from what I can see.

I agree with showing common courtesy, last year for my brake away from the midlands i went for mackerel fishing in torquay after setting up shop and lines were set within 5mins... i had 2 divers walking around like peguines close by, before in the water bobbing bk and forth around my lines... felt like twoking them with the snorkels...then to top it off, a group of five in kayaks went past as soon as bill and ben the fking flower pot men had moved...a wasp then decided to have a drink and fall in my glass bottle of cider. To which i couldnt get it out until half the contents where pourd out 😢...after everything happend which seemed like an hour of flapping around ...i was ready to start fishing 😂 to then family members arrived to send me word that a meal was done and have i catched anything? because were ready to start eatting a meal. And your needed so finish now!! To my reply while screaming was it best be fish and chips!!!!!... job a nock! 😂
