HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!

I don't get all the hate here. He's making an effort to speak a foreign language, and Chinese is probably one of the hardest languages for a Westerner to learn. I love how he managed to find places that only locals know - shows that he did his research before going there. I don't think he's aggressive or arrogant at all - and the way people "treating" him is typical of Chinese, especially in front of a camera. We don't go bubbly when we see a foreigner who speaks Chinese - it's 2017, there are plenty of people like him out there.

@@Tziumannu87 You can tell clearly that he has to exert conscious effort to speak, i.e. he has to think while talking. It's a difficult language to learn, and much respect to him for going out of his comfort zone. But it's far from fluent. It looks so forced that it looks borderline cringe. But, still, you have to respect the effort. It's also clear that he knows the language, but his speech is very obviously not natural, but put together word by word while thinking about how to pronounce each one (again, because it's difficult).

The reason why there are many muslims in Xi'an, is because Xi'an was the capital of China of several dynsaties, including the Tang Dynasty. The Tang dynasty was one of China's golden ages and also the most "free" dynasty. One of the emperors allowed the practice of Islam for the first time and since then many muslims moved to Xi'an to trade. I think the dynastic family line were "foreign" as well (not pure Han Chinese). Women could dress however they wanted. Chinese art and literature was booming and had big influence on neighboring countries. That's why many cultural similarities can be found between countries in the sinosphere.

Daisy June the founder and the first emperor of Tang Dynasty had about 1/8 not Han. They are not pure Han but that’s not the reason they are so open to the foreigners (compare to the Qing dynasty which is totally not Han but really dislike foreigners). I would say that’s the policy reason. Globalization is the trend of all big countries like Rome, Tang, or the US now.
You're ready for the big leagues. Someone has got to pick you up for television. Anthony Bourdain said he could spend ten years doing shows on China and would barely scratch the surface. you are hitting the soul of food culture not just in China but everywhere you've been. Keep it up.

I speak Mandarin fluently and use it exclusively to communicate with my family, a majority of whom live in China. I understood every word he said even with the video playing in the background and without looking at the subtitles. He may be a foreigner, but his Mandarin is very good and he probably spent a lot of time cultivating it to be as authentic as it is. I'm merely appreciating his efforts, as a fellow Chinese speaker who witnesses the daily foreign butchering of the language that I love.

Really, as someone learning Finnish (also a hard language) I can very much tell you a lot of EFFORT and perseverance goes into speaking it to locals and understanding them and having them understand you in return. It takes a lot to take on a difficult second language that isn't even remotely close to your own native language. You're doing great Trevor and inspiring people like me to to be more outgoing in learning a second language in a foreign land!

Your Mandarin is great, top 10 of foreigners I knew for sure. The most important thing is you are trying real daily local food, just hope you like them. Word of advise, don't eat too much those juicy food, too much fat. For guys plan to come, I suggest you don't always eat at hotel, hotel food is not very Chinese, even a 5 star hotel, the truth is, more starts, more famous, more not like Chinese : ), just ask your contact to lead you to their regular restaurants, those are real Chinese food with ancient flavor. As for the cold-looking reaction from crowd, he is right, just culture thing, people just not get use to deal with people looks so different, not even to mention there is another guy with a camera standing right there. Like Oscar said, too much emotion, judged by Chinese culture definitely that will confuse the others, but don't worry, under their faceless looking, they are happy to have you as a customer. After all, you are advertising them :)

Great video as usual. It's great to be able to communicate in someone's native language & carry on a simple conversation with them. They'll respect you more for learning their language & be open-minded. Trevor's just a super person. Love his video. It made me want to add those places to my "bucket list".

For people who wonder why this guy don't get fat for eating so much Chinese food, actually, most of the Chinese food don't make you fat because there is few or nothing sugar in their food. Chinese people tend to consume more salt than sugar. The main beverage is tea. You can look at the video again carefully, almost no Chinese have obesity in his video. Most of Chinese don't drink the western beverage like Coco cola, Spirit, 7UP etc. most of them also don't eat cake, chocolate, burger, butter, pizza, and chips, what you've seen in this guy's video are most daily food they consumed in China.
@TheR3negadeMaster7 жыл бұрын
Bob King You idiot, noodles are carbohydrates, therefore they break down into sugar when in your body. So technically, all you eat is sugar.
@clarknotkent52037 жыл бұрын
But you still need to consider the Glycemic Index of the carbs. I've lived in Mississippi for almost three years and everything here is so rich in sugar and oil. And you really don't need to start your statement with "you idiot". That's kinda rude. :)

Guys stop hating on this video just because it has China in them. The Food Ranger just wants to explore culture that is vastly different. It’s not like it’s the first you guys have experienced cultures that are vastly different. Gosh how some people are so ignorant of others and making excuses to troll others.😔😟
