Terry, they are all missing the point. After walking away, why is the ball next to Declan Rice? The defender has kicked the ball forward from the spot where the free kick was given (against the rules). He has then kicked the ball into Rice ( against the rules). If Rice has kicked the ball out of play, how can the defender take the free kick and a moving ball?

This is exactly why I didn't laugh at Liverpool when VAR failed to communicate their legitimate, on-side goal against Spurs correctly. Even though I knew Liverpool dropping points would benefit Arsenal in the long run, first and foremost I recognised that this isn't a team vs team issue. This is all teams vs a massively below par system of referees that we need to come together to eradicate. Last week it was Liverpool. Yesterday it was Wolves. Today it was Arsenal. And tomorrow it will be your team.

That second clip in the context of the rice incident is actually fascinating, didn’t know about it til now. We all know that dermot Gallagher just tries to stick up for the refs as much as possible, it’s not something new, but it’s honestly staggering how little he gets questioned about what he says. It seems like he just makes things up as he goes along and no one disputes it. I genuinely think I could challenge him better than the presenters of sky do. Why didn’t they mention veltman kicking through? Or moving the ball ahead of where the foul was committed? Or the fact that the ball was moving anyway so it couldn’t have been a legitimate free kick? Or the fact the Brighton players were calling for rice to be carded (which is now an offence under recent rule changes)? Or the fact that ‘by the laws of the game’ Pedro should’ve been booked as well? Or that keeping the spirit of the game and using common sense (as with the Pedro incident) to maintain the health of the game is also in the rules? Dermot makes excuses as for why Pedro wasn’t booked in the first half for booting the ball away despite it being in the laws of the game, yet claims the ref had ‘no choice’ to send rice off and that ‘the laws of the game’ dictated so? Like huh? I’m not one to claim there’s a conspiracy going on or that there’s an agenda against arsenal, cause at the end of the day, whether it’s in a weeks time or a years time, every team is going to get shafted by shitty officiating eventually. But it’s so obvious that presenters on sky are told to play things down and it’s infuriating

Brighton players hauling folk down with both hands and complaining about being adjudged to have committed a foul. Since Mikel Arteta's arrival, Arsenal have had 12 red cards, the next highest team has 7. Just saying. We get players sent off so many times for 'the letter of the law'. Yet we don't see other teams getting the same treatment. - Tomiyasu sent off for two yellows, first was for taking 8 seconds to take a throw in, second was for an Ayew dive - David Luiz sent off because the Wolves forward went to take a shot and as his leg moved back it brushed Luiz's knee, straight red - Xhaka sent off vs Man City, didn't even make contact with the City player - Gabriel Martinelli sent off for 2 yellows given one after another, never happened to another player since or before - Rice sent off for 'kicking the ball away' when the ball was only there to be kicked because Veltman had thrown it against the back of his leg and moved it 5 yards further forward from the area it should have been. For the record, I think refs across the board are pretty shit. Forest, Wolves, Liverpool especially have all been royally fucked over in the last 12-18 months. Surpisingly enough there's one certain team who never seems to have any bad calls go their way, I wonder why that is?

you are right. if you look at the number of yellow cards given to arsenal players in the first half (many were not warranted), you know what is coming in the second half; One of the arsenal players will be sent off in the second half. In the meantime the opponent has committed many fouls in the first half or infractions that were not sanctioned. This is organised crime. After 30 minutes i predicted that arsenal would not finish with 11 players. Liverpool is targeted as well. They are much better than City. Guardiola just win championships thanks to the referees. Otherwise he would finish far behind the winner. Let us not forget it works both ways. You disadvantage the opposition (arsenal, liverpool) and you give unfair advantages to a team, that on top of that should be relegated because of financial fair-play.

This is the same Dermot Gallagher who only gave a yellow which was not immediate too for an intentional horror tackle which was career altering injury on Abou Diaby that had him stretched off & sent to hospital, out for a long time, ruined his career longterm. The context makes it inexcusble too given Arsenal were 3-0 up away at Sunderland and seeing out the game in 90th minute before the intentional horror tackle. Dan Smith the youngster broke Diaby leg in a poor attempt at trying to leave something on him & give the home fans something to cheer about. Dan Smith didn't even make it and that cameo was 1 of 3 games at the club before playing handful of non league level football. His football legacy was killing Abou Diaby career. Dermot Gallagher was looking out for the young kid by giving him a red card for what Wenger called assault & tried to take legal actions thats how blatant it was, yet Dermot gave that challenge a hesitant yellow. The commentary back then were so toxic towards anything Arsenal they were ridiculing or trying to downplay foul play towards Arsenal players. They were very dismissive & jokey when that Diaby leg break happened and were almost talking as if Diaby screaming in pain was not that bad. Commentary & punditry is still bad now but was alot worse 10+ years ago. There's almost now an acceptance its a new version of Arsenal. Wenger & his teams became a joke or laughing stock by the media & journalists, the legitimate complaints Wenger had was seen as 'crying', his team labelled soft for getting kicked about. This was in a time period where it was ok to kick Arsenal player who had talented technical players. In a short span of time Eduardo, Diaby, Ramsey leg breaks and Arsenal for a long period were known as the injury riduled team. Wenger kept those injury effected players like Eduardo, Van Persie, Rosicky, Diaby, Ramsey, Wilshere, who in reality if they all fulfilled there potential or stayed healthy regularly they wouldn't have stayed that long given Arsenal wage cap and lack of transfer budget during stadium rebuild. They would have moved on sooner. Van Persie 1 healthy season he was 29 & Wenger sold him cause he couldn't afford to meet the 200k+ wage demands nor the ambitions demands to compete for PL Van persie wanted the club to do. Arsenal only willing to go to 140k, United offered 240k, City 300k. Wenger hated refs and the way they dealt with Arsenal, allowing the routine kicking. That horror tackle in a decisive title race game at Birmingham had the players rattled & effected emtionally. Arsenal took the lead & should have won if the refs weren't corrupt. Mike Dean gave a season defining 95th minute shocking penalty decision that Birmingham scored a 2-2 equaliser in what was a blatant & disgraceful dive. Mike Dean becoming the star of the show. That game & decision ultimately derailed the title race, Arsenal drew 4 games in a row to throw away the lead in title race in final 10 games. At last somebody else that has noticed this. I tried emailing the muppet Dermot Gallagher 4 times on this point before he went on RefWatch hoping to get him not to give his usual rubbish comments. Why the hell is nobody talking about the fact that Law 13 of the game dictates that if the ball is in the spot where the offence occurred, is stationary, and is on the ground that the game restarts as soon as its is kicked by a player from the team awarded the kick. Veltman did kick the ball forward towards Rice and it is that that restarted the game in accordance with Law 13 - Rice could never be booked for delaying a restart since the game had already restarted before the ball hit his heel

Refs decision was not only stupid it was contrary to the laws of the game. Read Law 13 then review the footage of the incident. 1. The ball was in the exact spot of the foul 2. The ball was stationary and on the ground 3. The ball was then kicked forward by Veltman into the path of Rice. By Law 13 the game restarted as soon as Veltman kicked the ball and Rice was fully entitled to play it. Under the laws Rice cannot possibly have delayed a restart since the game had restarted before the ball hit his heel.

Another aspect being completely overlooked is the manner in which Rice was kicked. According to the rules: "A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force: ... kicks or attempts to kick ... If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick. Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off." "An indirect free kick is awarded if a player: plays in a dangerous manner ... Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury." I would argue that that kick was at least careless, probably reckless, might well have used excessive force and was quite possibly dangerous. Ignoring all of that and the above, because of Rice's "nudge" on the ball, is incompetence from the referee.

Especially because the opposite team booted the ball in to delay the quick free kick and nothing was done. If he was shown a yellow in the first half then perhaps Rice would think twice about touching the ball. I mean if I see it go unpolished against me it would make me feel as if the ref doesn't mind and is lenient towards it. The level of inconsistency and bias is very obvious for anyone to see.

The whole incident was very strange. To start with it was actually a foul on Rice, but the ref gave a soft free kick to the Brighton player.....But think it was very unlikely the ref could have actually seen the ball slightly brush off the side of Rice boot from where he was positioned. So I strongly believe the ref was only given 'certain facts' of what had happened and what to do in his ear from the VAR room. No idea how and why the violent conduct of the kick through the back of Rice's legs was completely ignored??? Regarding selective rule applying for kicking the ball away when its out of play....In Arsenal's previous home match Saka also got a yellow card for having a shot at goal when the ref had just blown for a foul in the build up...there was literally only about 1 or 2 seconds for Saka to react.

Secondly, he didn't stop to think about anything and couldn't wait to send Rice off. Why didn't he tell the Brighton player to put the ball back several yards and take the free kick from the correct spot, like they always do? Why was he allowed to roll the ball directly into Rice's feet? Why did the Brighton player not get a red card for deliberately kicking Rice to the ground? The ball was off the pitch at the time...
