Butter on a burn is a real old wives' tale and a really bad idea. At least for heat burns. See, when you superheat a part of the body enough to get damaged, the heat doesn't instantly go away. That's why running water over it helps, it's helping to cool the meat back down. Butter is fat, an insulator, so instead you're trapping the heat in there and causing more damage.

Rhod's right about the butter treatment. One of my mum's go to remedies. I've never tried it. Honey does have some antimicrobial properties but it's better on toast 😀
