This is the type of technology that makes the world available to people like myself who are visually impaired. To those who say audio books are not really reading I say how lucky you are to be in such a place of privilege. I am glad to see more people using these features. It does allow one to be more productive while still enjoying books for fun or to learn new things.

Check with your state library! There is a Library for the Blind and Print Disabled program in every state (Talking Books Program for short) that will lend you audio books on digital cartridges and a player. You are eligible for it. Each state has a different application and it must be signed by a certifying authority which can be a medical doctor or your local librarian. There is also a BARD app where you can download audio books and magazines for FREE and keep those files for as long as you are in the program. You just need to check out or download books once a year to be active. The program literally has thousands of books and some libraries like Arizona and New Mexico have volunteers that even record books for the program. You can check out the website at the Library of Congress and find one in your state: www.loc.gov/nls/

My state public library uses the overdrive app. There, they offer books in ebook AND audiobook formats. I generally prefer ebooks, as audiobooks seem to be read much slower than I read. They're a good idea for long drives, though.
@Davena5 жыл бұрын
I always set my Audible 1.25X and podcast speeds to the same. There is an extension for Chrome that allows you to slow down or speed up KZbin videos. I set these to 1.25x also.

Renn Sea - nice! Overdrive is great. Our library offers it as well. And yes to audiobooks on long drives! I don’t think I’d make it on some drives without one going 😅
@warblingsongbird55305 жыл бұрын
Renn Sea, thank you. I’m looking into that! I want to be frugal and the libraries in my area are not convenient to my work/on call lifestyle. This helps my calling to be frugal and use my monies not to make others rich but to enrich others in need. Oh, and I use the speed function to go at 1.25 or 1.5 I didn’t realize that all sights might not have this function. Slow would make sleepy!

Very interesting, I do like audiobooks for the car while driving to get the most out of a commute. And putting videos on at 1.25x speed is a great idea to save sometime especially for podcasts :)

You are a wealth of information, Wendy! I love this!! There are so many times that I would love to listen to a book when I am doing something else like cooking, cleaning or driving but I don't want to pay for an audiobook service. I am going to check this out today!! I can occasionally get free audio books with my amazon prime membership but then they aren't technically free since I'm paying for Prime! I have also gotten audio books from the library which is a pretty good source but one that I don't tend to take advantage of near enough, for some reason. Thanks for this great information and have a wonderful weekend!😃🌞

This is why I consider you one of my best friends I've never met!~😇🙏😂You and I are on the same page mentally!~ I was just thinking of this idea a week ago and made a note to find a video on how to use my text to speech option on my phone, as I had been frustrated with my most recent audio book purchases. Amazon is actually charging money for some unedited audio books and I felt the text to speech option would be better than paying to hear someone repeatedly mispronounce common English words like loose and tithe!😂 Thanks so much, for all you do. I am getting my house lean and finally can plug all my USB cords correctly the first time too, since you showed me what that seam was all about!~ Keep up the good work my friend!~😇🙏💞

Do you use overdrive thru your library. Free and you don't clutter up your memory. Also, if you can afford to pay for an entire year of audible credits at once, the price drops to less than 7$ a book on average.

Warbling Songbird - I hear a lot of great things about audible! Reading/listening for the win 🙌
@warblingsongbird55305 жыл бұрын
Nikki Badzik, I do the yearly subscription now but it’s still not comfortable when I’m too lazy to just organize better so I can get my tail to the library and return the books on time. At this point Audible is cheaper than the stress I feel adding the library to my lifestyle. I feel pressure reading to return on time instead of enjoying, I often feel a failure at being frugal because I’m either paying too much for books (Audible) I could read for free IF I could get them back to the inconvenient library on time. Like I said, I’m still in training! LOL I’m half Scottish and half German. I guess I’ve always thought thriftiness SHOULD be ingrained.😜

Hi Laila, how many pages are you printing? It may be more cost effective to purchase your own printer if it works out to more than 2 or 3 cents per page. You can come across second hand laser printers at thrift stores sometimes and the replacement cartridges can be cheap if you go generic. If that isn't an option, the library sometimes has printing services they offer. Mine allows free printing up to 10 pages. Thank you for the recommendations! I have not heard of school helper, I will check it out. :)
