I'd heard about silage but didn't know how it was made. This series of videos has been great for showing the process. Thanks very much.

Nice video Richard. Have to ask though, why does your contractor use such small trailers on those 200+hp tractors? In Northern Ireland we would have a 16 or 18 ton trailer on those tractors instead of 12 ton trailers. 12 ton trailers can easily be pulled with 120hp
@tommathews52446 жыл бұрын
AgriFan they’re not that small compared to what our contractor uses he’s from Monaghan so he needs small trailers for the hills
@nickaf52626 жыл бұрын
He also runs his trailers on super single tyres that cut through the ground like a hot knife through butter farmers around here wouldn’t let you come with trailers without floaty tyres on

nick AF Gloucestershire tends to be a quite dry part of the country, if the grounds wet, you shouldn’t be silaging!
@agrifan53496 жыл бұрын
nick AF Yes i forgot to mention that too. They are a nightmare if the ground is in any way soft but even on dry ground they are doing damage, whether its visable or nor, they still cause damage and compaction

AgriFan flotation still cause a lot of compaction

Do you not roll the silage with your tractor as well as the loader to compact the silage over here in northern ireland we would have at least 1 extra tractor with weight blocks constantly rolling the pit and if possible 2 tractors
@thefunkyfarmer6 жыл бұрын
that loader is enough

Does any one in the UK use the Bags to store the silage in? The 200' long ones that they blow it in in America? Would free up the barn and no need to keep shoveling it about.
@thefunkyfarmer6 жыл бұрын
Most people do clamp silage for main crop. We also do round bales which are like bagged but it's a more expensive and time consuming way of doing silage
@dannycrooks17536 жыл бұрын
You need your contractor to buy some kane / herron / slurrykat / redrock / NC silage trailers the best trailers in europe are built here in N Ireland 👍👍👍👍
@edrowling82176 жыл бұрын
Nice work Richard and contractors. I know you haven't had the new intro for very long but please could you consider changing it as I get the impression that it is American.

Why don't they tip it in the pit and just let the JCB push it up that's what we do
@oldchannel20046 жыл бұрын
Farming pro 83 ! Because it takes too much time as they have to make sure it’s right in the middle so it does not break the roof
@agrifan53496 жыл бұрын
Farming pro 83 ! It takes less time if they tip it outside, the shovel can easily push it in from outside. If they tipped inside they would have to reverse straight down the middle and tip. They couldn't tip fully as the roof isn't high enough. They would then have to sit inside and wait for the trailer to come back down as it wouldn't fit out the front of the shed while still tipped. Simple really, trailer men need to be in and out of the yard as quick as possible and get back to the harvester and let the buckrake man do his job
@tomedwards56176 жыл бұрын
The trailer will go through the roof when it tips
@edrowling82176 жыл бұрын
Farming pro 83 ! And it would take longer so they would need to have an extra tractor on cart so more expense
