i have a question i have created a drawer but if i modify the lenght of it it only modifies the bottom piese it doesnet modify the whole drawer and i dont know what i did wrong

I use parameters when 3d printing parts to fit other parts, set it up, print the part, then if its too loose or too tight a fit, I can adjust the parameter by the requisite amount and reprint, that way you can leave some measurements as they hshould be and just adjust the ones you need adjusting.

I REALLY like this idea. I'm working on a thing now where I need very small clearance, but I could be setting it too close. I've gone thru multiple itinerations in the past and I don't like it, but this sounds like an awesome solution. Thanks.

It took me a little bit to figure out why you drew the lines at the base. Then figured out you were partitioning the face with parameters. Before it clicked I was a fat kid trying to climb a wall. Then it clicked. :)

Great video Justin, thanks! One quick note, there is also an option in the parameters window to change the "measure unit" from inches to "pieces" or "pcs". If there are any other OCD people out there like me, who get the nervous break-down when one row is without a unit name, then tough luck. YOU CAN NOT set it to pieces, because this messes up the formula. Fusion can't deal with two different types of measures. So indeed, you have to leave it as "no unit", like Justin did here.

Tried that but it won't take it if you try to use that parameter for that. When I change it back to No Units, it does work.

I have to build simple boxes quite often, I'll set up a Box with floormaterial, lidmaterial and wallmaterial, padding (for packaging) and desired internal space... IF I also set up a drawing, I can enter the parameters and get a printed cutting list etc. ...sweet...

Hey, Justin! This is a great start to parameters! I'm trying to move to Fusion360 after using SketchUp for years -- one thing I don't understand how to do w/ the parameters is how to have the model also create and adjust the # and placement of the dadoes on the shelf sides that would be needed if the shelves were seated in the dadoes instead of just butt-jointed -- As the parameter for number of shelves changes, the number and placement of dadoes would have to change along with it. Can Fusion360 do this?

Hi Justin thanks for another great video I have been drawing some electrical cabinets recently and they are all essentially the same design but the height width and depth changes so this would be a time saver for me.because these are sheet metal items will it update the flat pattern ok?

I think all my projects are based on parameters. Putting icon on the toolbar for easy access was the first setting I've changed. For woodworking (cabinets, tables etc) and 3d printing. All on a amatour level but still, very handy. One tip is to frequently change your parametrs when adding new features as sometimes our base of reference is wrong and the params don't work as expected. It's best to find it right away. Happy parametrizing ;

Sometimes I don't know it needs to be a parameter until after I have done a dimension can I apply a parameter to a dimension after it has been done ?

Could you do a video like this but on a ladder that could be fully adjustable so we could change the height of the ladder and the rungs would change along with the height? So the rungs would increase or decrease at a spacing no less than say 200 mm and no greater that 300mm. This would be very handy

Should be able to - it's really just another set of measurements in your sketch, so I don't see why you couldn't do it

I hope somebody can explain me this. At 8:15, why is the rectangle the whole width, and we're splitting afterwards? Can't you do ShellWidth-ShelThickness*2 right away?

Yes. I would have made the shelf sketch that size to begin with and then use constraints to make sure it stayed at the correct distance (ShelfThickness) from the origin.

Yes, I have been pulling my hair out trying to get the drawing looking the same - not in a mirror image- it was the Y-Up on the tutorial. Is there a reason to have the Y-Up? I thought Z was always Up?

Here's my problem. Say I have a Bookshelf project with 5 components, each one being a Bookshelf with different dimensions. How do I create a parameter NumShelves for each bookshelf that will only affect that component? Right now when I create a parameter it acts globally on all components. But I want a different NumShelves for each component separately. Someone told me to use Model Parameters but I can't see how to do that.

i think it should be enough to name those parameters differently? just guessing but if you name your parameter like NumShelves1 and your Bookshelf1 then you should easily find which one is which. Tell me if i am wrong anyway EDIT: I did it separately, separate patterns in columns so i now have e.g. 2 different shelf pattern in one cabinet

Man, I just changed my number of shelves to 99,999. Then Fusion crashed and I lost my shelf unit. All contributes to the learning process. The glass is half full lol
